How to gauge sincerity of Thurman's on-camera persona? Sounds to me like pre-rehearsed anchorman talk. I can see he's trying to build a character and get those Gs rolling in, it's just not very real, that's all. Maybe his acting will improve with time...
I didn't get chance to catch the fight/interview. Has he still got that lisp, and keeps calling everyone 'son'?
I rate him as a fighter, not keen on him out of the ring though.
Next thing you're gonna tell me about 'snitchin' yo?
Whattin? Take Miles Davis, one of the greatest musicians to have ever lived. He expresses himself with lots of swearing and slang. He doesn't drop in big words, or name drop things to try to make himself come across smarter than he is. And he's got more culture and art in him than just about anybody. He just doesn't go around trying to show it off. And he didn't try to belittle anybody because of that kind of ****. He wasn't pretentious, or a snob. That's what it comes down to, pretty much - snobbery.
Anyway, we're getting off the track. I like Thurman as a fighter, I just happen to think his acting is atrocious.
Agreed. He seems to turn it up a notch for the cameras, which isn't how he talks in private. But he still is well spoken COMPARED TO Broner who uses Ebonics and Thug culture speak.
The commentators even pointed out that he is a autodidact who has read books on philosophy, religion and so on an so forth. And it's showing through that he isn't just another ignorant 'rags to riches' buffoon who knows nothing beyond the world he lives in. I view him similarly to Hopkins, though he is still very young and needs years to be as seasoned as Hopkins.
See, to be honest, I couldn't care how well he's educated. I don't look down on somebody because they haven't been to school, or if they wanna use slang. I don't think there's anything wrong with so-called 'thug culture' speak. In fact I much prefer to hear someone express themselves using street-talk than some ******* going off on a snobbish, pseudo-intellectual tirade.
Who cares what the guy knows? If you're real, you're real; if you're fake, you're fake.
On a side note.. im still not convinced one time can handle elite pressure. He likes to sit back and pick his shots.. the clear way to me to beat him is to stay in his chest and dont let him think. Diaz was starting to do this in that last round before he went into retirement.
Like Broner he recites lines and its a forced act. Like Broner he has no personality of his own so he has to impersonate someone who does.
A wannabe I think you call it.
I don't really see it, but that guy in your sig seems like a bad ass.
Wtf? He acts nothing like Broner and his persona. If anything he's not really a great interview, and is ****y. But he seems very sincere.

People who are real can tell a fake. Shallow folks, or maybe just naieve folks, fall for it hook line and sinker.
"My name is Keith Thurman...and I AM A FIGHTER"
Gimmie a break.
He is a tryhard and it so recited and forced. I can't help but cringe at him trying to mimic Ali
Another Adrien Broner in that aspect, the guy has about as much personality as a Paris Hilton fanny pad.
