or should fighters be deducted a point for wanting to touch gloves?
IMO its ruins fight intensity. i dont like it. theyre gonna hug it out after the match either way.
I just talked to Queen Leia on the phone and she's down with it. She wants the glove tapping eliminated, and....the fighters to touch "other" body parts.
:greddy2:
Such nonsense...
ouching gloves has nothing to do with 'good sportsmanship", fighting within the rules does. Hell, You can foul and touch gloves all night, does that make you a good sport? I've seen guys GET fouled and reach out to touch, how STUPID is tthat? That crap starts in the gym, I told my guys don't touch gloves 'til the sparring is over and I'd tell the other coach ahead of time, we don't touch 'til the end and they normally say, "no problem". It's as annoying as seeing a guy shoot a free throw and has to touch all his teamates' hand before shooting again, for WHAT? The ref says touch gloves and come out fighting, not, touch gloves and come out and touch gloves. I told my guys during a fight, except for the last rd. "if the guy reaches to touch, try to take his damn head off".
Touching gloves is a fine way to show sportsman like conduct.
It's when you go to hug a guy that it gets bad, ask Victor Ortiz, he knows.
lol

I'd rather see gloves touching many times more than watching fighters kiss each other on the mouth or elsewhere before and during fights.
Leave glove touching alone.
.
that fight was cringeworthy lol.
im never watching that fight again.
its like "sorry i hit you, shake hands. sorry i hit you, shake hands. rinse and repeat.
Trinidad did it excessively against Winky too and it was pointless because the rounds were not even competitive. Usually I see two fighters acknowledge each others efforts after a round they both got off some nice shots. But I hate seeing it from a fighter who just got his ass handed to him. Sure getting beat up humbles you down, but you have to show some fire when losing, not become friendly. Props/acknowledgement can be given maybe with a subtle nod and a smirk but don't go touching gloves every round.
Boxing is a sport and it's a sign of sportsmanship..
Besides its always better when the ref asked them to touch and they don't want too...that hypes it up a bit
Lol, touching gloves shows respect and is a positive aspect of the sport. Though it is such a small aspect but important. Children will watch boxers touch gloves and learn a lesson about respect.
but can we just leave that after the last bell rings?
i mean they hug, exchange emotional words and show respect every time.
then become BFFs at that moment.
that fight was cringeworthy lol.

Well it's a sport, not a street fight. It would be kinda weird to eliminate glove touching. It's also a sign of apology, when you unintentionally foul your opponent, you put your glove out to indicate it was not done on purpose. And it's also a sign of "props" after a good competitive round. Because of the nature of the sport already being so brutal, glove touching is needed. It's not like baseball, basketball, or football where you do not have to shake hands with the opposing team during a game, like if the opposing batter hits a homerun, the pitcher is not going to go shake his hand, why should he? It's just a game. Boxing is a brutal sport and some kind of good manners/nice gestures like glove touching is needed, even though it doesn't make it any less of a dangerous sport.
However I admit that excessive glove touching like Mosley does, or too much smiling or friendliness during pre fight hype kinda waters down the hype of the fight.
OP brings up a point and I agree. Also it creates a dangerous situation for the fighters as one of them can decide to take a swing instead and catch his opponent off guard which comes in conflict the protect yourself at all times philosophy.
However, and this is hypocritical of me, I sort of like it because I like to see my favorite fighters try to take advantage of it by pulling a quick one like Maidana did against Khan at the beginning of their fist. I want to see him try it again this Saturday.
