As annoying as the 'cold war' between GBP/Top Rank (HBO/Showtime) already is, and is preventing many big fights from happening - is there a similar trend unfolding in the UK?
Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn have both said over the last couple of years that fights can be made on Skysports or BoxNation - i.e. Bellew/Cleverly (rematch) & Cleverly/Froch - but now that seems to have gone.
Hearn previously said that he would allow one of his fighters to fight on boxnation if the offer made sense, but is now criticizing BoxNation/McGuigan/Warren for keeping Carl Frampton on BoxNation and preventing him from fighting Scott Quigg on Sky Sports.
Sounds like double standards to me.
After the fight on Saturday, he said it wasn't going to happen before Frampton was free from a 3 fight deal on BoxNation.
Seems like BS to me. All the way through.
I think Sky's set-up and build-up is the best by far. They also have the much better stable of fighters. I'm kind of tired of listening to Jim Rosenthal and Steve Bunce tell us how great their fighters are.
Spot on, plus Sky's Ringside provides a much more balanced view of boxing, rather than that idiot Bunce, chattin **** all night long. Right lil cunt!
Having said that, it's not really a major cold war, just small murmurings but the two promoters, along with some others in England have worked together previously, in the not so distant past. So I won't worry too much.
It was either Paul or Stephen Smith if I remember correctly.
Yeah, but at least there's been offers going back and forth as in Quigg/Frampton and Cleverly/Froch.
That was a purse bid situation. Same as John Ryder-BJ Saunders.
Yeah offers like Mayweather's $40m flat fee. As in not very realistic and mostly done for publicity.
Who?
It's been going on for at least a few years no matter what they publicly say.

It's not long ago that Frank Warren had one of his fighters fight on Sky.
Of course it's been in the making, but both have been denying it saying it was possible to work together. Now it seems out of the question.

Not quite as evenly matched as the stateside Top Rank vs GB cold war. Hearn is dominating the domestic scene while who does Warren have? Billy Joe Saunders and Chisora? And I wouldn't put it past either of them to jump ship sooner or later.
I, like every British boxing fan, want to see BoxNation do well, but it just constantly shoots itself in the foot - be it the clunky, archaic format to the crappy website as well as the endless filler fight repeats the way it's being managed is seriously bad. While I get it's all about the boxing everything around it's so piss poor it makes it annoying to watch and turns off potential subscribers.
I think this has more to do with the Networks rather than Warren vs Hearn.
BoxNation have got some of the most popular UK fighters at the moment in Khan, Fury, Frampton and Chisora.
They are not necessarily contracted to Warren, but is to BoxNation - which makes it harder to make good fights - and according to Hearn - Impossible, unless they jump ship.
You're just seeing this?
