So for all those so called "boxing fans" who think that a boxer's bank account and safety is more important then the best fighting the best please go and do us all a favour and watch a safe sport like golf.
A true boxing fan should want the best fights imo, I see too many posters on this forum saying that boxing is a business first so fighters should be trying to earn money instead of fighting the best fights out there.
Boxing is a combat sport, it isnt meant to be safe.
Yea and construction workers should be paid minimum wage right?
Don't know. Don't care either. As long as they do their job within code or specs, what they get paid isn't my concern.
The people saying boxing comes before health and money i can guarantee you have never stepped in a ring int heir life period....when you go to work is it for the customers or for a paycheck? I have boxed and been in plenty of fights and i will tell you this damn right id wanna get paid and health comes 1st..who in the fvck wants to get hit in the head and not get paid the most they can be paid for it?? the fan?? where are they when you are drooling or crippled??? how many of you have written Paul Williams lately?
Boxers know the risk involved. If they are overly concerned about being hurt, they should take up another of the millions of professions in the world. Also, since they're fighting for their health instead of being the best, they should refuse any fight for a championship since they are not in it to be the best.

What do you think the guy in his avatar is doing by offering Chavez Jr a fight instead of Ward?
Yeah, boxing first, says the couch warrior. Boxing is a job, like all other jobs, you put money first. In an interview, you ask the interviewer about the money, not this stupid fantasy thought called "legacy".
Duran vs SRL, SRL vs Hearns, Hagler, Duran vs Hagler, Duran vs Hearns, Hearns vs Hagler...you are living in fantasy land if you believe for one second that these were big money fights and at the time these guys fought eachother they were the most lucrative fights that could've been done. Remind me what SRL's excuse was for not fighting Pryor. Okay then, child. Think it through.
Fixed.

Of course, because they can obviously just become lawyers, doctors, accountants and engineers easily, right? Maybe Lamont Peterson should have become a Rocket Scientist for NASA, right?
When most of their stories was that they were abandoned as a child, or had a troubled childhood in a poor environment, or were forced into boxing, or just plain old f-cked up childhood. Boxing is a popular poor man's sport. It was popular with the past poor people, Irish, Italian, Blacks. You being as ancient as you are should know boxing is a poor man's sport. It's a sport where poor people participate in to try to make a living. After boxing they have nothing but head injuries and a lonely death, no $10-12k a month check like retired MLB players(who played 5+ seasons), or $60 something k a year like some one like Gary Payton(NBA), etc. There's no pension like that in boxing, and you and the rest of the "Put your health at risk" Klan aren't going to pay these fighters a dime when they're retired.
Unfortunately boxing is a sport where you have to get yours and get out cause there's no financial help after it.
Floyd Mayweather's success turns your argument on it's head. His long career came from carefully choosing opponents and always fighting smart defies the idea that great boxers are all warriors who do it for pride. Like him or not, he's the #1 earner so the fans obviously think he's doing something right.
His career? You definitely know nothing about boxing, or you are super young.

Thread starter has ggg in his avi..who refused to fight ward at 168...but will fight chavez at 168....he needs to stop talking...boxing is all about business just like any other job

it's hard for me to have sympathy for a fighter (or any athlete) who earns millions of dollars per fight and is asking for more....
and they earn more and fight the fights NO ONE wants to see.......then we have a problem...like ****ing duckdonis ****venson
they should refuse any fight for a championship since they are not in it to be the best.

Safety should always come first, period.
Second, money is the only reason we have professional fights. Don't like that fighters are trying to get paid? Go watch amateur boxing, man. They fight for free, check it out!
Sure, back in the day, fighters fought more often, fought the highest ranked contenders more often, and were less concerned about health and big paydays.
And you know what else? 95% of those guys died ****ing broke and physically damaged from their years in the ring with nothing to show for all their years of work.
Fighters today have to look out for their health and financial interests, because years and years of seeing fighters that came before them getting ****ed over made them realize that no one is looking out for them.
It's up to the fighter (and his team) to try to make the most money and take their careers as far as they can. HBO aint looking out for them, neither are their promoters. If you think fighters should be in it for the "glory" only, go watch amateur boxing.

People kill me with this sh1t...Boxing is a fighters job, their career, their profession...tell me when in the hell is money and health not the most important thing...at your job do you not get paid and have health insurance??? We hear these stories everyday how boxers end up broke when they retire...do posters like OP send money to help?? no they say "oh i payed money to see them fight it is their fault" in other words fvck em right??? so now fighters are getting smarter and saying fvck you 1st and i for one am not mad..it is about time fighters get about thier money and look after their health so they aint slurring and to stupid to count their own money
So NFL or rugby players wont lay a score saving tackle because they may get hurt of injure themselves?
They will lay that tackle with no regard to their safety because that is what is expected of them in the sport.
And yes, they make their living off that sport but risk been put in a wheelchair every time they walk out on the field.
Calculated and controlled risk is not the same as putting your safety on the back burner. Don't make childishly absurd analogies to overstate your weak argument. The fact that you've made an ass of yourself across 10 pages tells me that you wouldn't begin to understand the real world application of this subject.
Then take your ass and go fight for free with no one looking out for you.
Well be there to cheer you on and enjoy seeing you get carried out of the ring braindead. Have fun.
So you're saying you watch boxing to see how much fighters make? Interesting. Weird, but interesting.
