Shawn Porter has had 2 breakout performances in a row. He's beaten Devon and Paulie, has a title.
And Pacquiao is Pacquiao.
We can only dream can't we? May vs. Pac, porter vs. Thurman, khan vs. Broner, marquez vs. Provodnikov, and garcia vs. Matthysse 2 . That ould be a hell of a card!!!!
Let's be realistic.
Porter has a MANDATORY fight against Kell Brook so that's off the table.
Pacquiao has one fight left on his Top Rank/HBO contract so that's not happening.
If Lara beats Canelo in July can he be ready by early September? Nope!
If Cotto beats Sergioin July can he be ready by early September? Nope!
Sergio, if he beats Cotto, has one fight left on his HBO contract so that's not happening.
With all of that said that leaves us with Amir Khan.
If Khan has a spectacular/impressive win against Callazo then he's a shoe-in for the September fight. If he loses or is lackluster then it wouldn't shock me if Floyd didn't fight again until May 2015. That would allow some of those lesser dude's (Porter,Thurman,etc...) to build up hype with wins & for those Top Rank contracts to expire.
Judging by past matchups its none of those guys named in the OP.
Golden Boy always puts a Mexican or Mexican American on the main event on Mexican independence day weekend.
Floyd/JMM, Floyd/Ortiz, Canelo/Floyd, Canelo/Lopez.
Cinco De Mayo is different as its just a big boxing weekend so they don't need a mexican at the top of the card as we have seen with fights like Hatton/Pac and Floyd/Mosley.
Now they could always break this mold and have Floyd fight Porter or someone else and have a strong Mexican undercard, but usually its always important to have a strong Mexican card on independence day in September.
We will see what happens.
I agree, Pac and Porter, and Sergio for the Middleweight belts at a catchweight of 155-157 or so are the only fights that make sense in September. Khan next year maybe, but he needs to beat a Porter or Thurman or someone more credible to earn that fight.
Porter is the greatest threat to Floyd's 0 at this point, imo. I said it last night; he looked like a welterweight Mike Tyson last night. Would be very interesting watching how an older Floyd would handle that kind of power and pressure.
the biggest fight out there to be made is still PBF-PAC, I am hoping that floyd saw something good at PAC-Bradley 2 and finally agree to fight Manny...
I bet Mayweather was cheering for a Malignaggi win last night, the only guy other than Pacquiao with somewhat of a name and could bring money to the table and not that dangerous of an opponent. Who else is there to fight other than Porter or Pacquiao? I can't think of any. You know he's going to be cheering for Cotto June 7th and look for that rematch at MW if he wins.
Sergio still has one fight left on his HBO deal after Cotto I think.
Yea he does, I'm pretty sure hbo wants sergio to win so they can setup sergio vs ggg.
Ah yes that's a good shout.
If Cotto wins that is, which I find extremely doubtful.
But IF Cotto wins then yeah that's a lock for September. Who knows maybe Martinez could happen in September if he wins. Doubt it but who knows.

mayweather/cotto 2?

Yeah I agree he should have struck while the iron was hot.
I still wouldn't mind the fight for September anyway Danny's the Champion at 140 and is already outgrowing 140.
Won't happen though I doubt so realistically I have no clue who is going to the September opponent because it won't be Porter, it won't be Pacquaio and I don't think it will be Khan either.
mayweather/cotto 2?
Paulie is a bum who is 1-2 in last two... and never beaten any good guys when he stepped up
Alexaneder is a bum who damn lost to kotelnik, matthyse and bradley imo
Pac is the only fight to go and you know it
1-2 in his last two????
Read that again man
Devon isn't a bum....he did beat Maidana clearer then anyone ever has.
Paulie isn't a world beater, and he did pretty good against Broner, and beat Judah though he was old handily. No one has ever beaten Paulie like Porter did. Not Cotto, Hatton, or Khan.
Porter has definitely made a statement at 147.
I'd rather see that anyways. 2 young undefeated welterweights going at it.
But knowing Brook's history how can anybody get excited for that.
Yeah me also.
Porter-Brook fight in July, winner (Porter) get's Floyd next May.
Considering that the people pick from at 147 are fairly slim right now, it could happen.
I wouldn't be surprised if they could find a way around that.
I agree it probably won't happen. But I wouldn't mind if it did.
The way around it would be to give Brook Amir Khan in December instead. Then the winner of that gets Floyd in May. Way more money for all parties in that scenario.
It can't be Porter. He's mandated to fight Brook in July or he'll be stripped.
The only thing Porter really brings to the table for Floyd is the belt.

The IBF don't really work they want they tend to stick to their mandatories unlike the WBC.
Possibly they could have a unification instead I don't really know how any of that works.
I really do doubt it though. Brook-Porter is all but signed for July.
Scenario I think should happen is;
Garcia- September
Porter-Brook winner in May 2015
Try and make whoever has the WBO belt in the TR stable for September 2015.
Seems unlikely now though after Garcia's comments and obviously they're trying to fit Khan in there for whatever reason.
Possible I'm just hyped up from the fight last night, but Mayweather/Porter is looking like a really good option before Floyd retires. And Porter brings some attributes to the table that could provide a good fight.
Still have a potential Thurman fight, too, for next year. Either guy could be a damn good feather in the cap in May 2015.
Floyd should have just fought Danny in May. Would have gotten a lot of credit for beating him probably, and still would have had someone like Maidana available for September.
I still could see Danny happening, but not until he beats someone good again at 147 now though. Guerrero, Alexander, Thurman, etc.
Yea, I agree with that. Could've got a good win while it was still good....Herrera spoiled it.
Then again, he didn't want to go up to WW yet
Porter performing very well and will most likely beat Brook too.
