Anybody else think it's a bad idea for a July 12 PPV for Canelo?

Anybody else feel this way? HBO has been holding back due to their lack of shows. Only had 2 shows in March and their last one didn't really cost too much. Now a bulk of their attention is falling in May to about July They have a show almost every week after the Mayweather fight. May 17th - Marquez/Alvarado May 24th - Perez/Jennings, Macklin/Geale May 24th (showtime) - Stevenson/Fonfara May 31 - Two overseas shows (Groves/Froch II), Macau card with three FW champions (Donair, Vetyka, Grandovich and Walters). June - 7th Martinez/Cotto PPV June 14th - Provo/Alegri, Rose/Andrade June 21 - Nothing yet June 28 - Nothing yet July 5th-nothing yet July 12- Proposed Canelo/Lara PPV July 19 - proposed JCC Jr/GGG PPV As of right now, HBO is pushing hard those 3 months while HBO has nothing on the board. Those three weeks were there's nothing scheduled yet is when the FIFA 2014 world cup is taking place. It actually starts the 12th of June, so the Provo double header will be near the beginning....but don't know if anybody else will make fights to compete with the World Cup and use those Saturdays to build up their fights with 24/7, All access and fight replays. Then, the whole issue of moving the proposed GGG/JcC Jr fight a week because of the Fifa finals being Saturday and Sunday. Don't know what time the games usually start, but if the games are at night, this time it's in Brazil and only an hour time difference from the East Coast HBO has all those shows to build up each of their fights one after the other.... actually starting this Saturday with Pac's fight against Bradley. HBO are already trying to promote their other two PPV's on the show and trying to get the other fighters to attend. Does anybody else feel this way? HBO is going to be having a lot of momentum those three months.

Send me source where Canelo has outdone Cotto in numbers? He'll get there eventually but not now. Angulo was coming off a ko loss, struggled with 20 yr old Silva and got outboxed by Kermit leap frog Cintron. Sure Rodriguez isn't any better but he was on a better streak plus it was free on HBO NOT PPV. Ehh, Cotto/Rodriguez numbers don't count because non-ppv....but yea. I was a little surprised with the Silva fight. I know Angulo was coming back from Prison...but still surprised he didn't stop him. He's been stopped by smaller/lesser guys

GBP did not want to have a PPV event after Chavez JR vs GGG if that fight does happen. They think it would hurt having their PPV after people pay to see Chavez JR vs GGG so they went a head and planned ahead of the Chavez Jr vs GGG fight. So people would spend their money a head of time on their PPV event.

Cotto would break Canelo's numbers against Angulo of course he made great ppv earnings vs delvin... the only comparison you can make between cotto and canelos ppv is the floyd fight, and canelo got that one by far.... canelo made almost the same money fighting perro than cotto will make for the martinez fight... but who cares...

His draw 'power' is exaggerated you don't generate 2.2 million ppvs and 5 months later flop @350k. The only fans he's fooling are his own they captured his image as the one in the Mayweather fight and were sold the dream. On the non ppv side he wasn't impressive as expected either Cotto vs Trout peaked at 1.4mil viewers while Canelo vs Trout peaked shy of a million and that's with Trout riding off the Cotto win. Decent ratings but again not start sweeping numbers like some have rant before the fight. you put cotto vs angulo both coming off a loss on non mexican date without a good undercard and wont even reach 300k...

Canelo doesn't have a break through fight. Mayweather could've been that, but looks like he'll be starting from scratch. He could be on Manny or Mayweather's level one day, breaking a million every fight regardless of who he fights.... but who knows. 350k against Angulo was decent, some name recognition there. Plus Canelo's base pay for the Angulo fight was like 1.5 million, not a lot of risk there. I wonder if he gets a better guarantee or if he is still working on you get paid a ton on the up side plan. If GBP has him on a similar deal I could see why they would just roll the dice because chances are they don't lose.

He got 350k against Angulo with no competition the same day. Lara is no Angulo. Mix that in with the Fifa third place game in.... good luck with that. Canelo PPVs make money because neither fighter is fighting for a huge payday. GB seems to be satisfied with 350k in ppv sales so let it be canelo made 8 million on the angulo ppv..

Don't know what time they play their games in Fifa Games are usually early afternoon. In the Confederations Cup mostly all weekend games were around noon pacific time. It'll be over before the card starts and well before the main event. Like someone said it's going to be a sports packed Saturday so why not take advantage of it. Also 3rd place games are mostly a showcase for players who didn't get playing time during the tournament.
