Hey boxing fans,
Just wondered what your thoughts are on looking at Cotto and Martinez in camp?
From what I understand, Cotto started his camp on 1 April, whereas Martinez started a few weeks earlier.
Looking at Martinez's recent photos, he looked out of shape and bit rough around the edges. I also noticed his knee was heavily bandaged whilst he was shadow boxing. Has there been any footage of him running? Because from what I hear, he is doing little or no roadwork from the Dr's advise. He's also hinted that there's a strong chance he'll retire after the Cotto fight. How do you interpret that?
I've not seen anything of Cotto training. He certainly looked fresher in his last fight but it's hard to gauge when you take into account who he was fighting. Or was it a good performance? I think Rodriguez took Trout 12-rounds. Is Cotto looking like he could make a last resurgence? Roach says Cotto was overtraining. Cotto supports the claim and states that if he was in this shape for the Mayweather fight he would've won by 'KO'. That's interesting come off a relatively quiet and humble guy like Cotto.
Anything you've seen in the buildup that makes you see the fight differently??
Thanks!
Wow, one year and six months not being in ring, not training, not running, not doing jack and you're going to tell me he's going to be 100% without any ring rust?. I wouldn't be sold on Martinez until you see otherwise. He's going to have a Pit Bull on 100% attack mode for 12 rounds digging into that body..

A smaller, weaker pitbull. Cotto has to box, not brawl, if he want to win. Otherwise he is gonna get KOed, Martinez maybe isn't as fast as he were anymore but he is still bigger and stronger than Cotto.
Wow, Sergio is finally training with the coach that made him champion, Gabriel Sarmiento. And he said that Sergio's knee is responding better than they thought, bad news for Cotto.
Sarmiento is a good tactical coach. If I remember correctly, he's the guy who planned the strategy that led to the knockout of Paul Williams. All signs seem to be that Martinez's knee is fairly good. In the latest issue of Ring Magazine, he said that he began training camp for Murray about 2 days after he got off crutches. And he couldn't run. This time, he didn't have an infection from surgery, got proper rehab, and can run. Bad news for Cotto. This should be a much better Martinez than the one who fought Murray. This version didn't enter training camp fresh off crutches.

Looks like Martinez's knees aren't bothering him at all. His trainer predicts a knock out.

I think Sergio is going to uppercut Cotto to death. And since Cotto will have the role of aggressor in this fight, it plays right into Sergio's strengths. Which is to keep on the back-foot circling and landing strong overhands and uppercuts while Cotto continuously tries to zone-in on a moving target.
Cotto will have the problem of catching Sergio and pinning him long enough to get-off, which with the size difference in Sergio's favor, there won't be much Cotto can do to muscle and pin.
Sergio gets the nod .... UD|MDSergio only throws jabs and straights breh, even Floyd found it hard to consistently hit him with those shots, but being that Sergio rarely mix up his punch arsenal like a Floyd he'll get mauled down within 7
I hope cotto gets the credit he deserves after he wins.
Werd! Delusional haters will be the ones and the weak ones will follow them. The real fans will give him credit and that's what it counts.
War Cotto!
:lol1: Who you got winning this fight?

Sergio has been having his knee heavily wrapped in training for awhile now...And Cotto always claims he is in better shape when he changes trainers until he loses
Yes, he will need an active defence, foot work and head movement to get in, and most importantly, stay in.
He needs to turn Sergio like he did to Margacheto 2, true, Serigo is not Margarita, but you get the concept/idea of what I'm saying.
If Margarito and Chavez cut off th ring and touched him at will Cotto will have no issues, just watch the Mayweather fight, Cotto will force him to fight in the trench eventually, and Sergio with his straight only punches, damn near turns his back in those situations; he has no answers for a trench fight......
My only fear for Cotto here is he has historiccaly struggled vs Southpaw, even ones not in his league such as Corley, Clottley, Trout, I blame that on a lack of a right hand......I believe Freddie can fix that though, if not Cotto may have to go through all hell to get a win
