Man, the longer this fight goes, the worse it is looking for Kovalev to be honest. He is now getting tagged with counters from the left and right and is cut over both eyes. I see Agnew turning up his offense and battering Kovalev in the next few rounds.
With posts like these.
Firstly id like to say Cedric, you did well mate. You are a very good fighter, Atheltic, and good defence. I think you could get a world title down the line/be a very good gate keeper at the division. Why are people hating on Cedric family. Obviously they are from a poor background and have dressed up for a tv apperence. Woulddnt you?
Back to Kovalev. BVery impressed. Imo THIS is his most impressive win. Against a Atheltic, durable, undefeated fighter who was young and hungry.
People were even saying Kovalaev lost the first round when he completely outlanded Cedric. WTF?
Aren't too many slick Russians even if they have the skills and athletic attributes they still usually fight too aggressive for fans to classify them as such. Kostya and Nazarov were slick but very heavy handed and aggressive, Pirog was genuinely slick but Martinez didn't want any part of him.
Currently Golovkin has a very high all around skill level and subtle defensive skills you could classify as slick similar to the best pressure fighters like Chavez sr or Duran but again the power and aggression means people won't classify him as that. Korobov is very athletically gifted and fought more as a boxer/puncher/counterpuncher in the amateura but has adopted a much more aggressive Jirov type style in the pros.
If you're talking about all FSU boxers Lomachenko and Usyk are probably the slickest and Lomachenko vs Russell would fall into that category and should be a good one.
In my perspective, we may label as "slicks" fighters from the "Russian School" guys such as Lemeshev, Tszyu, Pirog, Golovkin, Kovalev... the "Russian slicks" are very different from the "American slicks"...
The "Russian school" seems somehow more "minimalist" as compared to the North American and even the Ukrainian ones... But in terms of "minimalism", the "Cuban school" topples the Russian school...
That's my perception...
Believe me: I don't like Russians per se...
But I always liked their school of boxing...
... I'm beginning to think that I'll not live long enough in order to watch a fight between a "slick Russian" and a "slick American"... (I don't include here the Ukrainians -- they developed a different pro boxing style)...
... maybe Golovkin will fight Ward, though...

Sergey looked scary last night.. I don't know what fight people were watching but Agnew ran for his life the entire fight.. This was similar to ggg vs Stevens, but at least Stevens did try to let his hands go and you see the outcome.. If Agnew would have let his hands go the fight would've been over early.. Kovalev has legit scary power in both hands, a jab to the body ended it and he was hitting the same spot from the first round with that left jab to the body, **** is, that left jab is like a Manny Pacquiao straight left.. I would like to see ggg vs Kovalev.. Two cerebral assassins..
good post. if andre ward or mayweathe rput in a perfornace like that some people on here would be going mental.

Thats BS, Why are you lying? Fighters always fought the best competition? Do you really want me to disprove this or will you just admit this is a blatant lie?
You young, doe...
Idk, but I want the Stevenson-Kovalev fight now even more and can't have it.
Boy boxing is such a double edged sword sometimes.
If you go back in the '60s or the '70 you could have seeen that such stupidities were not allowed...

how old are you may I ask?
yea I thought that. Obviously the body shot hurt, but I wonder if he stayed down in more the fact that he was a broken man and not by the shot individually. As he looked reslly upset. Almost as if Sergey took his soul. Perhaps im over analysing.
sergy power is crazy, the left hand he threw in round 2 was his only clean shot and it nearly decapitated him.
good technical fight.

People got used to Kovalev dispatching opponents in 2-3 rounds...
... People forget that, at a certain point, fighters may need more rounds in the ring, in order to test at least their physical condition, or other boxing capabilities...
Anyway, Agnew didn't want to push his luck and put his knee down in the 7th... (he wasn't eager to cross the Simakov line)...
