Looks like the old myth that boxers are more prone to brain damage is going the way of all those other myths the MMA guys make up. Click the link for the full story.

A mixed martial arts fighter suffers a traumatic brain injury in almost a third of professional bouts — far more than the rate of such injuries in hockey, football or even boxing, suggests a new Canadian study.

Super Featherweight.
Boxing is a sport with several promotion companies (Golden Boy, Top Rank, etc), UFC is a company. How many times have mixed martial artists from different companies fought each other? In boxing it happens quite often.
Name that superfeather weight fight,, when did garcia and Uchiyama get signed, when are they fighting, i would love to know the date... Oh i know, they are going to take tuneups to build the fight, just like kovolev-adonis.. LOL
MMA has a better business model than boxing,,, But all the other promotions are basically minor leagues of MMA,, UFC is clearly the cream of the crop by a million miles, and anyone in their top 10 in a division would rule in other promotions.. No one wants to see ben askren vs Hendricks.. If your really good you will eventually find your way to UFC unless you punk out like fedor did
Go post on sherdog if you love lay n pray watered down mma garbage. What is your excuse for Pettis vs Aldo not happening? Jesus you must work for zuffa. Head on over to the ufc.com forums. No one wants you here.
Once again,,,,
What champs in UFC dont defend vs the top guys,, The girls division is kinda a joke, but all the other champs fight top guys in their division
Tell me again what boxing champs in 2014 are fighting the top guy in 2014
BOXING CANT MAKE CHAMPS FIGHT GUYS IN THEIR OWN DIVISION,,, How is there matchmaking better than UFC
Please name the big fights we are getting in 2014 from champs defending belts vs true #1 contenders..
List them troll
I've said this from day one, it's still the fight game. All of the ancillary stuff that happens in boxing is bound to end up happening in MMA, and that includes the physical toll on the fighters. To extend on that - fighters going broke after retirement, etc. you know, all that heartbreaking stuff
Anyone who will sit here and deny that taking hits to the head is less damage or more damaging than boxing are being perverse in their denial. Even if boxing didn't exist, those blows to the head in MMA would still be damaging. Fighters are fighters, i'm not as into MMA as boxing but all I care about is that teh fightes can shake hands at the end. This distinction that is made between fans is ridiculous - boxers and mma fighters prob have more in common with each other than they do with their fans.
Again, I don't think the design of this particular study is that great - there is no link to the study itself so we pick it apart and see how it could have been done better. That is what science is about. I don't want some clown politician to come in trying to ban either or both sports. We are in the same boat now - when they made a ruling in NV over PED's for example, that effects boxing as well. So, I rather see studies like this so we can say we've done all we can to keep the sport safe while maintaining its integrity
Um, you must miss ALOT of mma then. Because Shogun just took 5 hammer fists to the back of the head. The ref did not dq Henderson. In fact the mma media and fans were fine with it and Dana White said Herb did a good job.
i don't watch nearly as much as i used to. i feel that boxing is much more compelling.
i trained in MMA gyms in new york for several years at college, and interviewed several mixed martial artists when i had media credentials. i wouldn't be talking about the sport if i weren't familiar with it.
that stoppage is not typical.
that's bad refereeing. most finishes in MMA don't look like that.

Just name me one division in boxing in 2014 where the best 2 guys in a division are going to fight each other
Super Featherweight.
I knew some idiot would say that crap..
Those super fights you name involve dream fights between 2 different division completely separated by 10 or more pounds.. It isn't welter going to jr mid, it's welter going middle, it's like Floyd going to serg, or canelo going to ward,
GPS-silva is a 15 lb difference in weight not 7 lbs
Fedor and cyborg aren't even in UFC and the only true super fights that should have been made is gsp/silva, silva/jones, But at least they have all fought their top contenders repeatedly
Boxing can't even make guys in the same division fighting, and you have to be a complete retard to think boxing puts on better fights than UFC
Look at just the divisions
Welter we have no
Bradley Floyd
Manny Floyd
Thurman porter
Broner Kahn
Middleweight
Ggg serg
Serg quillen
How about kovolev and Stevenson or rigo mares
UFC doesn't protect it's cash cows...
Gsp year long layoff comes back and fights the top 3 guys in his division condit, Diaz, and Hendricks
Lesner comes back after career threatening illness and fights the top guys Darwin and Cain
Serg comes back after an injury and fights an undersized guy who is 1-2 at lower weight in his last 3, yet that's what boxing gives us as a title fights, and we are so starved for good fights that this is actually considered a big fight..
Let me know next time UFC has a champ defend against a guy that is 1-2 in his last 3 and is moving up in weight for the first time, and hasn't beaten a top guy in years,,,
You have gone full retard if you think boxing puts on better fights... Lmao
And you show your troll colors by trashing UFC yet must be big enough fan to rattle off a bunch of super fights you wanted them to make...

i think mma is safer because less people die from it on an annual basis than boxing
death is pretty bad
also, all martial artists strive to be great boxers, not great mmgay fighters. Notice how great kickboxers like the Klitschkos and Manny Pacquiao wasn't getting enough money in a crummy sport like kickboxing, so they translated their skills over to boxing where they can prosper
Boxing rulez\\\\\\\\
real men like me, and other pro boxers should punch people! kickin ain't fightin'! Randy Couture never really beat james toney!
guys like Ray Robinson and Ali didn't get brain damage from boxing. It was hereditary
What a bunch of nonsense. What ignorance.

very misleading.
it's the blows that don't knock out out and pile up over a long fight that really take something out of you. sparring, amateur career, and long pro careers of 10 or 12 round contests.
short knockouts are actually better for you in many cases.
This. Great post.
are you serious? several people have died in mma, the last one was just a month ago.
not in big shows but it has been well publicized regardless.
He won't reply to you. The people who post that **** are either dumb as bricks or paid to spread the word.

"The study conducted by Prof. Hutchison and doctors at St. Michael***8217;s Hospital in Toronto did not involve actual medical diagnosis of MMA fighters.
Instead, they analysed the publicly available scorecards from professional UFC matches, which indicate whether a fight ended in a knockout or TKO."
That right there tells us we shouldn't take that study seriously.
"While not definitive evidence, it is probable that a knockout, where the fighter loses consciousness, involves a concussion or more severe brain injury, said Prof. Hutchison."
Tell that to Magomed Abdusalamov and Frankie Leal.

Boxing is worse because they let you recover after you get concussed.
In mma its all over once you get concussed.
That is the major difference.
Except the medical facts say different. But please keep posting this false meme over and over with zero medical facts. Im sure someone is dumb enough to take your word for it.

He is a another idiot who thinks the UFC = MMA.Cant even debate with these people. They have the fundamental facts about the sport all screwed up.
first of all, those matches u mention, those guys are in different weight class except for fedor vs brock as compare to the guys in boxing that the other poster listed. those guys in boxing are all from the same class. LOL
you're off base. Every single match was talked about, by the fighters themselves and the promotion as happening. Jones has said he is moving to heavyweight. Pettis is the same weight as Aldo, except Aldo cuts more weight. Brock Vs Fedor is a Heavyweight fight. Anderson Silva competed in pride at a lower weight winning the shooto 168 belt. Ronda fought over half her career at 145 including all her amateur fights. So what the f-ck are you LOL'ing about?
Also, Every fighter I mentioned was signed by SAME promoter. INCLUDING Fedor and Cyborg. Please tell me when those boxers all had the same promoter. I will be waiting.
