Amir Khan has told Floyd Mayweather he will never be a global star - unless he fights him.
Khan, who today announced he will face Luis Collazo on May 3, says Mayweather phoned to promise him they will fight after snubbing him for Marcos Maidana.
And the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champ claims the American will never crack the lucrative Asian market without him.
Khan said: “If Mayweather wants to be a global star, *especially hitting an area he’s never hit before like Dubai UAE, Pakistan, India, then he has to take that fight with me.
“In India the population is a billion plus, Pakistan 300 million. So if Mayweather wants to target these areas, he has to fight someone who is known in these areas.
“He rang me just after the Maidana fight was announced and said the fight didn’t happen, but not to be disappointed, it wasn’t meant to be this time.
“He said we both know it is going to make us a lot of money in the future, so as long as I keep winning, the fight will happen.”

Dont worry Khan. Whether you look great or terrible against Collazo Mayweather will try and make the fight happen. Believe that.

Mayweather has 3 fights left that is not a lot of time or opportunities to exploit this Asian market.
What is interesting is that access to this market is the selling point and not Khan's worthiness as a fighter. It is this mindset that has curbed Khan's progress since losing to Garcia. Without this Mayweather obsession born out of a sense of entitlement Khan's career would have been back on track. The Alexander fight would have been jumped on and seen as a God send. Waiting for Mayweather is a risky policy and the inactivity has serious risks of ring rust where he is setting himself up for a fall. Had he been active the risks in this Collazo fight would be much less. But as it is he is setting himself up for a fall.
This sense of entitlement borne out of a sense that he is owed something because he is Asian and feels he owns the Asian market deserves a come uppance. Maidana got his shot by earning it and this is where Khan's focus should be. I get the feeling Mayweather is toying with him and waiting for Maywather may well end in tears for Khan.
This is the type of idiotic crap that gives Khan a bad rep.
He believes all the hype that the UK media give him.
Khan is a B (at best) level fighter within the WW division.
Saying stuff like this just gives people more reason NOT to take Khan seriously.
Having said that I think he will get a fight against Floyd, but only because Floyd knows it makes sense from a business perspective and protects his '0'.
“He said we both know it is going to make us a lot of money in the future, so as long as I keep winning, the fight will happen.”
To be honest even if Khan loses against Collazo (which is highly possible) he will get the Mayweather fight anyway.
Oh, and finally India and Pakistan hate each other, so I can't see Indians being that interested in the career of Amir 'King' Khan. The majority of his fanbase are UK based Asian Muslims.

If this was Crickett Khan would have a point with Floyd needing the India and Pakistan market as far as boxing it's useless and he's fine without it. As far as Dubai goes they just got there 1st all action channel of boxing and MMA and interestling so all the commercials for it was of the Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo fight no Khan sightings anywhere.
Khan acts like everything he does is so important. I checked where boxrec ranks some possible Khan opponents. The guy Khan is fighting, Collazo is ranked 21st in the world. Devon Alexander, who Khan could have already fought is ranked 10th in the world even after his loss to Porter and was probably in the top 5 welterweights before the loss. Brook, who tries so hard to get a fight with Khan is ranked 6th in the world. How does beating the 21st ranked welterweight make Khan a standout choice to be Mayweather's September opponent if he wins the fight?
