If Al haymon starts a promotion would it be good for the sport of boxing because this guy pays his fighters well and he also will bring the sport some exciting fights. The only person that I feel bad for will be Oscar because he is the one who saved fighters from uncle Bob's promotion. This would be good for fighters but is it good for fans?
Haymon is and for the sport because you end up with crap fights like Lara vs trout, paulie vs zab.
Anyone who knows boxing knew those were bad fights, those fights Eat up networks budgets which sucks for us who pay them.
He's just to smart and to good at using leverage. The guy had Berto and Dawson getting a mill per fight, that's crazy. He's got Gary Russell getting free paychecks left and right. There's nothing good about any of that. And as soon as a network demands better opponents for his fighters, he demands obscene amounts of money. And now that he has a monopoly it just gets worse.
I don't know about him. He manages so many good fighters and you never hear a word from him. He is the mystery man of boxing. I don't know if he wants to be a promoter. Promoters have to talk in public and that seems to be something he doesn't like to do. He seems to be fine just managing and advising a large number of good fighters.
It would just be, although to be a viable promotion he would have to put in capital and any investment in the sport is helpful. Still he would be looking to turn a profit so it is not like he would be any different than anyone else in the business.
As an adviser he has helped guys get that premium TV money, but if he is putting up part of the funds I would imagine he would be a bit more frugal.
He cant start his own promotions. You cant hold a license to be a manager and promoter, cant be both. He already uses Golden Boy Promotions as his vehicle.
He's not licensed as a manager. He only advertises himself as an adviser, never a manager.

His relationship with HBO isn't that great. That's the only thing that I see being a problem. But he has all the talent and that relationship can be repaired.
If he can get both hbo and sho sports on the same table that would be great for boxing
