He wouldn't make it, he's not built like that, his chin wouldn't hold up, he's toooooo fragile. He almost got his head knocked off by Shane Moseky, imagine if Hearns caught him, he'd be taking a dirt nap.
Just love your defensive pitter patter puncher and stop trying to compare the two (comparing him to Leonard.)
Not proclaiming themselves as TBE while getting smacked around the ring by 12-1 underdogs, that's what. :boxing:
Some of them had more than double the pro fights of Floyd and if I'm not mistaken- didn't the 5'7" Duran beat Iran Barkley to win the MW championship at 37? Barkley was a 3-1 favorite.
Roberto Duran at the age of 31 lost the to Kirkland Laing in which he was a huge favourite over. Not just struggled, lost the fight.
And Marcos Maidana is a damn sight better than Kirkland Laing.
And Duran is one of the greatest fighters to ever live.
Muhammad Ali struggled and arguably lost to Doug Jones not too long before he won the Heavyweight title.
Ray Robinson lost to Ralph Tiger Jones, a journeyman. At the age of 35 and a fight in which Robinson was an 8-1 favourite. And he got dominated by Tiger Jones. Who again was a journeyman.
These are some of the greatest fighters of all time.
And Marcos Maidana is better than all of these fighters. And Floyd actually beat Maidana. Robinson got dominated by Tiger Jones.
Floyd just beat a guy who brought every damn dirty trick out in the book..and this thread said he was not built for that..thats why it was bummmmmmmped
You meant to write that Floyd finally fought someone that didn't allow him to get away with his chronic rulebreaking. Chino took him to task for his nonsense and if the ref didn't "adapt" to help Floyd out and let them fight instead of breaking them when Floyd was holding, Floyd would've lost 10 rounds last night.
Sugar Ray Leonard was also a spoiled brat like Floyd "Money" Mayweather but Ray never cried so consistently to the referee like Floyd did last night.
Chino really exposed Floyds cowardice last night.
Good call on the bump. I have to say a prime Duran would have beat Floyd's ass last night. It was cool to see Floyd's warrior side though
Both of them at lightweight in their primes isn't even a qeustion, Roberto Duran crushes Floyd Mayweather. At 147, Floyd has way more of a chance but Floyd wouldn't have been able to beat the Roberto from Duran/Leonard 1, Roberto Duran that night was a thing of beauty. He was brutal animalistic efficiency and hatred. He took Ray apart. Unfrotunately, we never saw that Roberto Duran at that weight class ever again.
He didn't route Duran easily. That was a competitive, close fight when Duran quit.
After the first fight, Leonard stated he was going to retire then when Duran balooned up to almost 200 pounds Ray demanded the rematch and that it be very quick. Unfortunately the people handling Roberto were idiots and allowed that and Duran was actually taking ex lax the day of the weigh in tryign to make the weight. Duran didn't have a training camp for the 2nd fight, he basically went to fat camp. Leonard admited on the 30/30 that this was his plan. Ray also admitted on the 30/30 that he purposefully played with Durans head and made him wait 9-10 years for the rubber match, at which point Duran was a mere shell of who he was.
Ray also made Tommy Hearns wait for a rematch and he refused to give one to Marvelous Marvin Hagler after their fight in Las Vegas. Years later when Marvelous Marvin was remarried and making movies in his new home country of Italy, Ray threw it out there that maybe he would consider fighting Hagler again to which Hagler just didn't biother listening because he had been retired for years and wasn't going to play Sugars game. I think Marvelous' Marvin's response was that if "Ray wants to fight now he and I can go somewhere quiet away from everyone and I'll tear his head off." Ray had no response.
Sugar Ray Leonard showed so much heart in the 1st Duran fight and in the come from behind knockout of Thomas Hearns in the 14th round of their first fight. He was a truly great fighter but his out the ring manipulations and refusals to grant rematchs against tough foes he won fights against somewhat taints his legacy. He and Floyd had one thing in common is that they both throws tantrums and become spoiled brats unless they get their way in all aspects of negotiations.
Leonard/Duran 1 was a close fight but not as close as some say it was. Ray was given some rounds on the judges cards he shouldn't have gotten. Duran clearly won 9-10 rounds in that fight.
at 37 years old...tell me what duran, leonard, ali, hearns, srr, armstrong, greb, joe louis were doing????

Answer my fvcking question. Stop ducking and dodging. Of course Floyd is still on top and active in his career at 37, then they were at that age.
That has nothing to do with what I said in my original post though. Nor is his age the subject of this thread.

There were like 60 threads talking about Floyd doesn't have classic fight. Now I wonder what the criticism will be.
This fight was pretty boring. Floyd having any trouble at all will get people excited during a live broadcast, but this fight barely has any rewatch value. It was mostly an ugly/dirty clinchfest of a fight. There were very few clean punches landed between the two. If this is considered if a classic for floyd...
At 37 what were Holmes and Hagler doing?

If you think last night = Leonard/Duran, you need mental help.
Seriously?? Classic fight? Weren't you just complaining how Maidana is a "dirty ass" fighter and he fought a dirty fight and he should receive NO credit at all?
But Floyd fought a Duran/Leonard type fight?
Jesus fvcking christ.
At 37 what were Holmes and Hagler doing?
Might be the hats he's wearing nowadays proclaiming himself the best ever... before eeking out a decision over a 12-1 underdog.
And :lol1: at anyone comparing Chino Maidana to Roberto Duran.

He would have massaccred him last night.
I know you're not saying but for the life of me I don't understand why people are comparing at 37 year old, 18 year pro Mayweather to prime ATG's.

That's not the point, the point is Leonard gets down like that against Roberto f.uckin Duran, the most feared puncher of his time and nearly beat him. Floyd wouldn't even get down like that with Roberto f.uckin Guerrero an essential "no name" in regards to being a puncher.
Therefore, quit trying to compare the two.
One is a "G" and one is a "g....I...r...l."
DUDE, what do you think made it a once in a decade type of fight?
Think about it buddy....the fact both boxers have the ability to go to war like that.
You can't compare Mayweather to Leonard, they're not cut from the same cloth. Period.
Lmao Mayweather vs Cotto was that type of fight. Mayweather Cotto isn't even a top 100 fight of all time.
And you're right Maywearher needs to stick to his strengths of defense and speed to keep winning.
If he gets brave he's gonna get his ass knocked out . Period.
So don't compare him to Leonard. Compare him to Wgitaker or someone
He may in May.yep
Floyd can't allow himself to engage in a Leonard/Duran type fight. Not he doesn't allow himself.
He is physically unable to perform like that. And has no shown anything remotely close to being able to perform like that.
If that's being biased then that's what it is.
I'm biased when someone is trying to compare Mayweather to Leonard. Where as I would be biased if someone tried to compare Broner to Mayweather.
No ones beating me in the head with this nonsense, I'm not buying it.
The only people buying it are people who feel that Mayweather is their favorite boxer.
I just give Mayweather credit where credit is due.
The fact you feel the need to bring up he has "beaten 20 champions" is irrelevant in what we are talking about, in particular.
I totally agree with you. Floyd is not built for tough fight after tough fight. He wanted to retire again after the Cotto fight. If that's his idea of not wanting to take punishment, what would Leonard have done to him? Duran? Hearns? Is he a great fighter? Yes. BUT, he's no SRL. Leonard is perhaps the greatest fighter to ever lace up gloves. Just a thought. If Floyd had fought Manny when he was supposed to, it would've been the most grueling fight of his career and he KNOWS it! That is the real reason the fight never happened. Manny doesn't care who he fights, Floyd does. My case in point; Floyd is about to fight a style he's encountered for most of his career, Manny is about to fight a dangerous undefeated fighter who he could actually lose to. Although he clearly won the first fight and he will win the rematch because he's pissed off. LoL. Khan would've been the more dangerous opponent, PERIOD. Floyd is a bully and narcissist. Truth is, his decision to never want to face the best, will haunt him when he retires.
This statement won't be true after May 5th. And laced up is right in his comment below the OP.yep
You really believe Mayweather is going to slug it out with Maidana?
OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
