We believe that the the opponent for Nicaraguan sensation Roman "El Chocolatito" Gonzalez (38-0, 32) for his upcoming bout on April 6th has been named.
Gonzalez, who is expected to fight Akira Yaegashi later this year, was originally expected to fight a tough opponent though it appears his camp have taken the approach of fighting an easy bout rather than letting Gonzalez run a risk of picking up a cut. Instead of a testing opponent it seems that Gonzalez's camp have settled on Filipino Juan Purisima (11-4-1, 4), pictured.
Purisima, a 22 year old who is based in General Santos City, lost his most recent bout to Ukrainian Artem Dalakian though has not been stopped since a 4th stoppage defeat on his debut to Rommel Asenjo, who is currently world ranked.
This bout, on the undercard of Yaegashi's fight with Odilon Zaleta and Naoya Inoue's title challenge with Adrian Hernandez, is likely to see Gonzalez going through the gears before a Yaegashi bout. Although the bout is an "easy one" it will give Yaegahsi a chance to take a close look at Gonzalez and likewise will allow Gonzalez a chance to study Yaegashi ahead of a genuine Flyweight superbout.
As long as this sets up Yaegashi
This fight is pointless.... Roman needs to fight the big names
This supposely paves the way to Yaegashi.
He'll be the lineal and the man to beat...but that won't solve his problems.
If Gonzalez beats Yaegashi, where does he rank P4P?
If the Ring gave Segura love 3 years ago, they gotta give Roman some love.
They probably won't move anybody from their list unless they lose... and at that, only the people in the second half of the list (6-10)
He should have Ioka on his resume, but his team were smart to turn him down.
Only positive out of the negative is that they said out loud they weren't ready
Which fighter/team refused the fight??

What a shock, another no name opponent. I seem to recall Valero and Linares got this same treatment when they were in Gonzalez position. All three were or are with Teikken.
