Going to the Garcia fight saturday, and I'm absolutely stoked. It's the first fight I'm attending live, and I'm probably hitting the weigh in tomorrow as well.
Thing is, I'm really hoping to meet some fighters there. I know it's unlikely I get a chance to talk the the guys who are actually fighting, but surely guys like Tito and Calderon will be there. I'm also hoping to meet Paulie (I'm assuming he's calling the fight for Showtime).
At any rate, I've seen a bunch of posters here telling stories of how they met certain boxers during a live event, so I'm wondering, do you just look around and hope to see someone, and then approach them or what??
Lol, sounds stupid, but I'm totally clueless (not to mention excited).
Thanks!
Most fighters I have met are pretty willing to sign and take pictures as long as your quick and not a d*ck about it.
The only rejection I've witnessed was by Mayweather when he rejected a buddy of mine at a restaurant. The rest of the money team fighters were chill and took pics and chatted but Mayweather wasn't having it lol.
Bhop looked at me in disgust and said I don't sign anything. This happened at the hotel before Mosley vs margarito. Naazim, bhop, Shane were all staying at the same hotel I was at. Shane was cool- saw him after the fight in the lobby.
Roy Jones- I've seem him blow off fans at least 3 seperate times.
I don't blame them. Grown men asking another man for his autograph is ridiculous. Leave that **** to women and children. I don't even see it as them being jerks either. Just being men. I would never approach my favorite athlete or musician. **** is lame.

Lol almost messed up. Arrived late to the weigh in, barely caught a glimpse of Danny, so I decided to leave before the rest of the fighters were done. As I was heading to the parking lot I saw this big black dude with what appeared to be his family waiting by a van.
He was covered in tats top to bottom, and I figured it was Deontay. So I got all excited and approached him, as I got closer I noticed he didn't look all that big, in fact he looked slightly smaller than me. In the end, I decided to walk away, dumbfounded by the fact his official height was way off.
As I walked away I recalled reading on boxrec Malik's height as 6'4". Then a mental picture popped up where the tiny hat he was wearing had a striking resemblance to the hat I saw floating around the stage while Malik was being interviewed.
Long story short: I almost called Malik Deontay and asked him for a picture. Sure dodged a bullet there. Go ahead, laugh, I laughed at myself, so its cool.
When I went to AC for Rigo/Agbeko, all I did was wait by the fighters entrance. I had my camera, pen and paper ready. All I did was ask and they accepted. I got to shake hands with Rigo, Lampley, and Casamayor. Got my picture taken with Ward and I even saw Roger Mayweather walk in the front door. No one else noticed him so I walked up to him and asked him to take a picture. He said yes.
Bottom line, all you have to do is ask!
Every fighter I have met I approached them with respect. Andre Ward talked to me for at least ten minutes after the Mayweather Canelo fight
that must have been brutal. you probably wanted to make up an excuse so you could get away from his boredom.
Lol, sounds like something I'd do if I had the time.
Thanks guys. I figure guys like Tito enjoy the attention so it won't be much of a problem. Paulie seems like a cool dude as well, but he may be business minded at the fight.
At any rate, I honestly don't care much about autographs, pictures give more bragging rights, i believe.
I'd kill for a staredown pic with Wilder though, people over here think I'm huge at 6'5". I'd like to show them how scary a heavyweight killing machine can be.
Badas idea bro! Ill love to have one with Cotto! :wank: :notworthy
If Froch and Groves go to Glasgow for the promotional tour. Anyone reckon I might be able to get a photo and autograph at it? I'll no doubt be one of only two females there. Which I don't mind though.
My boy and I met Robert Garcia at the MGM the weekend of mayweather/Canelo... It was the Friday night or should I say Saturday morning since it was about 430am when I spotted him...
I was just standing outside of the restroom waiting for my friend to come out and I saw a group of about 5 dudes walking my way and one of them turned out to be Robert Garcia... I was so surprise and star struck I couldn't recall his first name... He steps in the restroom and a few seconds later my boy comes out, I'm all excited like a lil school girl... I tell him who I saw, so now we're both anxiously waiting for Robert to come out the bath room... When he did we approached him and asked for a pic, he was real cool about it and obviously drunk... I'm almost positive if we would've offered him a beer, he'd accept it no doubt and I would've been able to say I had a beer with Robert Garcia but I didn't think about that until about an hour after we met him lol
Bernard Hopkins was very cool in signing my glove when he was in Houston for the Marquez/Diaz fight at the weigh in... I also got Marquez's and Rocky Jaurez that day also Lupe Contreras, ODLH too!
:boxing:
These guys are usually pretty cool with taking pictures with fans. I've met and taken pics with a lot of boxers, some trainers and some commentators. I only got turned down once and that was by Max Kellerman lol. But if your sitting close to the ring then you'll see them sitting nearby. Or after the fights they're usually walking out to the lobby signing autographs and taking pictures or you can even catch em walking around the casino. That's my experience in Las Vegas tho, I'm not sure how it is anywhere else. Good luck tho!
That's crazy! I hate myself now, lol. Hopefully they bring Danny back. Deontay said he enjoyed PR and hopefully he would return to "defend the title" (honestly not that far fetched).
How do the logistics of the press conference work though? I kinda figured fighters entered through a restricted area, headed for the stage, then left the way they came. How'd you manage to get close to them??
Hopefully they don't drag them away too quick tomorrow at the weigh in.
Haha yeh man. It was a small room... it wasn't like a press conference for a big fight. And a Watson brother sat beside me for the press conference lol. Very nice guy.
Well for this one we waited outside a room until we were allowed in. While we waited we saw Danny and his dad entering the hotel but quickly took the elevator. Juanma came in with his girlfriend and was talking to everybody in the lobby. After that the doors opened and we made our way in, so did Juanma and the fighters arrived after a while thru the same door. They went up on stage, sat down until it was their time to talk. After it was over the press moved in and so did the fans and whenever you saw that a fighter was remotely free you went up to them. Herrera and Juan Ponce De Leon were the easiest.. Herrera was actually just browsing his phone alone after the press conference for minutes until I decided to go in and ask him for a photo.
Wilder wasn't at the first press conference. I was thinking of going to their workouts today but didn't. Hopefully, I get one after the fight with Wilder WHICH I DOUBT. I WILL definitely try to get one with Paulie if he comes..
I'm in Ponce at the moment and don't feel like making the trip for the weigh in alone. I will be at 5PM sharp at el Coliseo though! :boxing:
Man I am guessing you didn't go to the first press conference? I took photos with all of them... Danny was the most difficult because they were rushing him after it for interviews.
I just called them by their name and they would respond. I would follow it with a short "Big fan" for all lol and then proceed to take the photo.
I took a photo with Trinidad after the Juanma-Salido II fight... He was awesome. VERY approachable, he loves the attention too lol.
By the way, I'm going to the fights too this Saturday!! Should be a very entertaining card!!

Its pretty easy to meet and greet them at press conferences in NYC. but lately theyve only held it for the press/media inside. Luckily ive had an insider.
Yea Pacquiao, Bradley have all been really chill to get your pic/autograph signed. U just gotta be quick cuz once theres a crowd thats when they leave
