i apologize if you've seen this thread before, i havent so just want to know from NSB
simple question, if cotto pulls off the huge upset becomes middleweight champ, is he greater than felix trinidad?
so do you think cotto vs tito @ welter prime for prime tito smokes him?
i dont think any1 thought tito had a chance in hell against bhop anyway. but yes he did look awful in that fight
PRIME Tito at 147, 154 was veeery hard to beat. Winky was very good but the fight took place after Tito's comeback which he was pass his prime.
Tito at any weigh, prime, past prime would have beat Margarito by a beat down. One thing is to be able to take a hit and another thing is to be hit by Trinidad. Margarito's chin will be there to be hit at will.
Both are great puerto rican fighters but Trinidad >>>> Cotto clearly imo.
Trinidad has Wins over Whitaker, De la Hoya, Vargas, Reid, Mayorga, Camacho, Blocker, Carr, Campas, Joppy against losses to Hopkins, Wright, and Jones Jr. (All losses were to great bigger fighters with tough styles for him near the end of his career)
Cottos wins include Martinez, Mosley, Clottey, Judah, Quintana, Torres, Pinto, Malignaggi, Bailey, Foreman, Margarito II, and Mayorga against losses to Margarito, Pacquiao, Mayweather and Trout.(A few of those losses were either in his prime or against smaller foes or fighters not regarded as being great)
Trindidad at this point has a better resume and Id pick him in a H2H Matchup as well.

Most were picking tito to win going into the hopkins fight and Bhop beat his ass.

Truth is that Cotto was stumping all over Clottey until the head but and massive cut.
The cut, imparing Cotto's vision was the equalizer.
Seems like a reasonable answer from a guy with a cotto avi..
Tito is way better than cotto...
Tito was better at 147
Tito was better at 154
Tito was better at 160
Cotto is a hall of famer but Tito was better and crushed better fighters...
I don't remember Tito ever taking the knee, even when Hopkins was busting him up..
Tito wasn't beaten by trout, a guy not as good as Reid...
There really is no comparison

1. Cotto went to war with Margs and lost. It was a pure war, a type of fight that ends primes. - a true classic
2. Cotto got outclassed and dominated by Pac - bad loss
3. Cotto gave one of the greatest fighters in history perhaps his best fight since Castillo - no shame
4. Lost to Trout in a close fight, where he looked lethargic and bad matchup, plus Cotto is already shot - a type of loss all fighters have, no issue, he's washed up
1. Trinidad in his prime got busted for improper wraps then got beat down 11-0 before being ktfo in his biggest fight. At no point was he competitive.
2. Tito again thoroughly dominated 12-0 by Winky where he wasn't remotely competitive.
3. Again, thoroughly dominated, this time as a fat 170 pound man, fighting a guy more washed up than him, only to lose again 12-0.
So yeah, they both have bad losses - but let's not pretend Tito doesn't. Cotto loss to Pac is really his worst performance, but at least it was against an ATG, in his prime
That's a damn fine post. I have a word document on my laptop comparing Benítez, Gómez, Trinidad, and Cotto. I factor in biggest wins, biggest losses, biggest strengths, biggest weaknesses, and notable achievements to see who among them was the greatest (although in reality Trinidad and Cotto lose to Benítez and Gómez). I've got on the "Flaws" section for Tito precisely what you said: "Losing big."
The fights he lost, he lost them big. His fights with Hopkins, Winky, and Jones Jr. have all been near shut outs (Tito AT MOST won a total of six rounds between all three fighters).
Cotto's looked decent in his losses. He fought his heart off against Margarito in the first match, gave Pacquiao hell for four rounds before electing to box, and roughed up one of the greatest defensive fighters in history.
His only fight where he looked out of place from start to finish was the Trout fight and even then I thought the scorecards were a tad too wide.
It would be a better win than anything Tito has IMO (close to De La Hoya) maybe the manner and amount of Cottos losses is what drags him beneath.

This.
It'll still be a decent win all things considered but no.. Tito would KO Cotto. :|... Benitez would put the beat down as well.
As much as I love Cotto, I couldnt' see Tito or Benitez looking as pitiful as Cotto did vs Pac and Marg 1. Not in their prime
So now Cotto looked pitiful in Marg 1? He went to war and lost in one of the greatest Mex vs PR battles of all time - what's the issue?
Pac is a certified ATG - he would give anyone, in any era a problem
No. But it makes him a real legit Hall of Fame fighter. Right now, he's borderline IMO. His resume leaves a lot to be desired, even though he is one of the better fighters in his time, he lost almost every big fight (Margarito I, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Trout)
you swear like Cotto was gonna turn down those two paydays...heck, anyone would fight PAC and Floyd..that's the lottery
Besides Danny Garcia :lol1:
J/k I know what you're saying lol. Heck I'd step into the ring with them if I had the chance for that payday.
Martinez is a shot fighter. So no. Cotto will beat Sergio doesnt make him greater than Tito.
This.

yup..tito would never moonwalk for 6 rounds against a midget
And Cotto would never quit the sport (2x!!) like a beat down hoe after getting an ass-whupping. No, he pulls himself up by the bootstraps and again tries push himself. Tito was and always will be a man with no heart. When the going got tough, he retired.
Fighting Pac and Floyd are greater challenges than anything Tito ever faced, except Hopkins. Cotto fought Pac at his absolute peak, why is he being discredited?
