(Long time lurker, seldom poster)
Not sure if this is deserving of a new thread. However, Floyd always states in interviews that Emanuel Augustus is his toughest fight to date. Couldn't help but notice just how similar Augustus' fighting style is to that of Maidana.
I can't fathom whether this is a good or bad thing as Augustus did land a few (just a few!) decent shots on a young-ish Floyd.
Got me thinking as a Floyd fan he may be a little vulnerable to a whole lotta pressure :(

This fight (along with Castillo vs. Floyd II) should tell you, or at least give you a glue as to why Floyd goes back to being a defensive fighter and is very cautious and picky on who he fights.
Floyd has called this his toughest fight because he actually lead in this fight. He tried the same against Castillo 2 and he didn't doing so because he got hit a lot more. Its safer to play defence.
Not sure if it was after this fight or the Castillo fights, but Floyd turned all defence. He knows better than to break a fighter down because when you break a fighter down you have to finish him and there lies the danger.
I agree with the poster who said Castillo 1 was his hardest fight. I dont think he'll mention it tho because he knows alot of people felt he lost the first fight.
Precisely this. This is the cold cut truth.
Outside of Castillo, he's never had a tough fight. You can get a bloody nose from one punch. Doesn't make it a tough fight. We'll call the Augustus the "tough guy" and Cotto the "tough punch."
Honestly Zab Judah knocked Floyd down and was only down 2-3 rounds behind in the 10th round. And he didn't even work nearly as hard as these two bozos (Cotto and Augustus) did. That was a "tough fight."
Castillo was his toughest fight, I couldn't careless what Floyd says himself. I know what I'm watching and Castilloe I was BY FAR his toughest fight.
Green k given.
Telling it like it is. I was gonna say this, too.
Clever. You're one of the reasons i don't post.

Couple minutes in. Toughest opponent = Augustus.
Feb 2014.
Yeah bro cool story, lets act like Jose Luis Castillo wasn't his toughest fight-yeah you know a fight that he lost.

If margarito had a shot at mayweather he would have been Floyd's toughest fight.
Guy's who could take a shot and keep coming are tougher fights for mayweather than guys like JMM or Canelo.
Margarito would actually have to land....cotto, Williams, and Santos boxed his ears off....Augustus was not only tough and kept coming, he had skills could roll punches counter throw quick combos...Margarito lost everytime he stepped up. He beat cotto the first fight and allegedly cheated...the next fight was a replay of the first him getting tagged and outboxed

He was just on showtime during the canelo fight and stated that agustus was his toughest fight
Look more carefully. Does Floyd "always" say it's Augustus?
I'm aware he said it was Augustus last week.
Naw he had an interview with steve farhood this year saying augustus was. What we may consider hard may not be cosidered hard for someone actually in the fight. If you have been in the ring you would know this.
Whats harder than fighting a guy who keeps throwing shots while taking your best and also rolling shots, ducking shots, countering you. Mayweather hit Augustus with 3,4,5 even a 6 punch combo in the fight and he smiled at him. This was at a time when mayweather had kayo ratio of 70%+
Floyd actually looked winded, took some shots, and even though he was the clear winner had to work much harder than he did for Cotto.
In the Cotto fight, he dictated most the fight. Everything he tried except slip or parry some jabs worked....he nullified his body attack, took away the left hook, even eventually took away the jab with his own and counters.
Good Assessment !!!:boxing:
Because Augustus was tough as hell, could take a punch and give it back and is not the typical textbook boxer. Augustus' punches were not conventional.
Mayweather's defense is almost impeccable against boxers like JMM or Canelo. That's why his father and Floyd himself are avoiding pac because pac is not only a southpaw but probably one of the most awkward southpaw of all time.
Nah, not sensitive.
Sorry, I should have thought about my reply and been friendly rather than dismissive.
Anyhow.
Aug = Floyd probs thought he could get out early, yet Aug was eating his shots all night. A part of me even thinks that when Floyd's right hand broke in the 8th that Aug could have landed more until his corner jumped in the 9th. Even though he was miles behind on the cards, it was his chance to really test Floyd
No worries, cousin. You just said Floyd "always states it's Augustus" and I put my emphasis there. That's not exactly true.
Agree with your assessment of the fight. Keep up the good work. :fing02:

Yup.
My intention for the thread was just to see if others felt Maidana would fight akin to Augustus.
...not to decide who was Floyd's toughest opponent as I'm certain this would have been wrote about tonnes! :)
No need to be butthurt, bro. Time heals all wounds and you'll get over it.
You clowned a poster and told him to get with 2014, and yet Floyd said it in 2014. Sh*t happens, mayne. People make mistakes. Don't beat yourself up.
I "clowned" a poster?? Is that what I did?
No, I corrected a poster.

Is that what I did? Change my stance?? GTFOH! :lol1:
Do you really think that because Floyd said something new again the other day for the benefit of NOOBS who have only heard one version of this story people like me are suddenly going to change our minds about this?? He said it was Augustus. He said it was Cotto. He said it was Augustus. It was actually Cotto. I'll stick with what's real. How do you figure I'm going to get into a "BUT FLOYD SAID!! WHAAH!" Kind of b*itch ass argument?? :lol1:
