Hey everyone just a quick question on what peoples thoughts are on a situation i'm in.
So i'm a noob boxer in training, thing is...I have an eye injury from when i was a kid! the sight in my left eye and to the left is my eye is blurred/gone! but i can still see, i can see a left being thrown and a hook i thing, just probally not when it lands! It was also an brain injury i sufferd with as a kid!
Now the question i have really is, if i wanted to start amaetuer boxing, would i get an ok medical? ever? or should i just give up right now on the thought of competing?
I went to the doctors at one point and they ok'ed me to start doing contact sports! :argue:
Boxing has always been a love of mine, as a child i boxed but the accident stopped it, only in the recent months have i decided to take the sport back up, after being ok'ed by the doctor, i told the guy i wanted to train for MMA, which i assumed would be more dangerous for my eye but he ok'ed me for it.
I havn't had any tests and no i've not had a competitive fight yet but it's comming and like i say, i'm yell to tell my coach.
Should i inform if of my eye? I worry more so that i can't even be competitive because of the brain injury i sufferd as a child from the accident
You have to let your coach and doctor know man this is a slippery slope you're walking on. My eyes are bad as far as sight is concerned and the doctors weren't gonna let me box, so I'm surprised your doctor ok'd what seems much more serious.
But you should tell your coach. And keep your hands up :boxing:
Dude you shouldn't be training if you think you have a brain injury and eye injury. Research what happened to Olympian David Reid, very sad.
Have you gotten a physical, ever had a competitive fight yet? I'll be surprised if you passed the exam.

Is a weak eye as bad as a weak chin? Maybe
I'd figure after enough fights most would spot a weakness and target your eye.
Both Matthysse and Angulo didn't seem to do well with a damaged eye.
I'm wondering how the hell a doctor cleared you. I'm no expert but that doesn't sound right.
All I'm gonna say is, be careful and don't try to pull no macho sh*t.

This should probably be moved to the training and nutrition forum, they would be able to help you more I think. If the thread doesn't get moved automatically switch to that forum.
What exactly happened though, if you don't mind me asking? And how much does it actually affect? Hard to say if you get the all-clear in a medical. Probably depends on the doctor.
Yeah sorry! i hope they will move it, didn't see where to start it. Doesn't affect me that much i guess or at all, maybe cause i'm used to it.
If some guy was to sucker punch me from the left, i wudnt see but it has to come from the side, otherwise my vision is at like 70% in the eye, from the left its down to like 30%....I was hit by a bus at 11...25 now...It's a long time ago, the local doctor ok'd me for it but i dunno, i have yet to tell the guy who trains me, i guess i'll find out how badly it affects me when i'm to fight another guy

My opinion is you are going to want to train southpaw so you can put your good eye forward. Also.. in the southpaw stance, keep that left tucked by your chin, especially if facing another southpaw because a lead right hook could slip by your notice.
