Did anyone notice how Angulo did not used one ounce of aggression vs Canelo, he tossed Phantom esque blows towards canelo with no conviction. Thoughts?
Watch the fight again, and look at the bombs to the head and body that canelo landed early... Angulo just got blitzed unexpectedly and canelo never let him recover
Great performance by canelo
I am a Canelo fan but he sure gets plenty of hate on here. He has a great win but now Angulo threw the fight. Why would he do that and who would pay him enough to make it worth while to lose? He was about a 7 to one underdog so gamblers only make money if he wins. He was paid almost a million bucks for the fight. A win over Canelo would give his career a big boost. He took a beating and threw over 100 punches in round 8. Why would he fight so hard and take such a beating to throw a fight when he could just fight hard for a short time and go down and stay down from the first hard punch that lands on his jaw and there were dozens of those landed by Canelo? I haven't heard one good reason why Angulo would take a dive when the reward would be so big if he won. I believe he just got his ass kicked by a much better fighter and it's as simple as that.
I would answer goldey boy. Don't be a sheep man, when have you seen Angulo not at least try. Potential for PPV stardom a one mil PPV generates lots of money 70-80 mil worldwide and there's no potential for that with Angulo, only Cornelo, especially when there's lots of sheep to be sheared. A lil something for Angulo on the side, do it for Mexico, do it for boxing. I could see it, but hey I guess that would be hatin. For all the reasons you mention above is how u fix a fight, so you can ask those questions. Get right.
Angulo looked like a severely weight drained fighter and had no snap at all.
fair stoppage by Weeks,he probably saw Angulo at the weigh in and knows Angulo as a fighter fairly well.
at some point this is what is comes down to, between vegas/CA boxing aint a huge world. Weeks prob knows Angulo on some level, knows of him at least... he did look skinny at the weigh-in and in the ring.
He was slow from the start, coming off a war and then took bombs from the jump. Worst first round of his career, etc. He could have stopped it in the 7-8th i think it was but then he came alive a little bit and Weeks let it continue for a good 3 rounds. Tough stoppage for fans but I hope to see Perro fight again so I let this stuff go
Totally agree. Angulo needs to call it quits. This should have been his highest payday and he can live off his earnings and become a trainer. There's no need for him to keep fighting because he looked horrible. He was like Canelo vs Mayweather where he didn't look like himself.

Angulo looked drained to me I'm not making excuses cause i was rooting for him but when he took his robe off he looked skinnier than i remember and his punches were all pity pat. Canelo just took off from the first second and didn't let angulo settle in which was a good plan
I know, Canelo weighed 170, Angulo 174 and Canelo looked MASSIVE in comparison to him. Angulo was being moved around by every punch.

It was odd but during the entire buildup to the fight, Angulo looked like a broken man. He was constantly breaking into tears and talking about how much he loved his daughter and then Hunter had to console him during the ring walk in which he looked like he didn't even want to get in the ring. Something was going on with him like his eye injury was much worse than people have been led to believe or something else happened to him personally over the last few months.....he is probably almost done with the sport at this point.

Mayweather Sr. noted it.
I just think that, he don't seem like he was throwing punches back to try to hurt the guy, to try to hurt Canelo. It seem like he was just taking punches man to me. It didn't seem like to me man, that he was trying to hit Canelo back hard at all. He wasn't coming on strong, he was just taking punches.
That first left hook Canelo landed was serious stuff whether Angulo was throwing the fight or not. He felt that and I think it was an early warning that Canelo wasn't going to be bullied around and that immediately put some caution into Angulo and how he would go about throwing his own shots.

I found it really odd too, and canelo was standing in front of him its not like he had to chace him.
That first left hook canelo caught him with really looked like it jarred his neck.
He did seem upset with the stoppage but. still found it odd that his punches lacked any snap or pop to them. He has been in some wars they could be paying there toll.
I dont believe the conspiracy theory but he undeniably was not throwing any real punches. There can be less sinister explanations for this not necessarily that he threw the fight.
I was having a hard time watching it for the first few rounds because I felt the same way. It almost seemed like Angulo was not there to fight. He did pick it up in the middle rounds and later in the fight, but yeah, it didn't seem like there was a lot on his punches. Very odd.
