The richer fighter can just pay some money and not come in at the weight limit?
Really makes a mockery of the sport imo.
Have some damn professionalism... if you are going to miss the contracted weight you should shred down and put yourself at a disadvantage like fighters have for decades
In other news Usain Bolt has paid all his 100m competitors to let him only have to complete 80m before finishing.
Roger Federer has paid the rest of the top ten tennis players to make sure they can now only play with their weaker hand
And finally Lewis Hamilton has paid his fellow Formula 1 racers to ensure they are only allowed to drive Fiat Punto's while he stays in his Mercedes F1 car
Hahahaha, and unfortunately, all too true.

. An advantage which is sometimes known by the fighter when the contract was signed.
I think this annoys me most. Obviously i haven't been inside these guys camps.so i don't know how hard theyve been trying to make weight, but it does seem like fighters are signing to fight at weights they cant make knowing they have a get out of jail free card at the end of jt.
I find it hard to believe that Alvarez, who weighed in 152lbs a few months ago, couldn't boil down to 154 if he really tried.
Floyd made the divisional limit so he should not be listed homie, hell he came in a pound under the limit
Stop playing dumb Larry, there was a contracted weight which Mayweather didn't even bother trying to make. Which took away the one advantage Marquez had after moving up two weight classes to fight him.
It was probably the biggest farce fight that i can remember. And I'm not someone who hates Mayweather either... Even had him as my sig for a while
Boxing isn't a sport of integrity now and it never was, so what just enjoy the fights.
Thing is though we as fans get mugged off because interesting fights get turned into mismatches... Not necessarily this latest one but I want to see fighters who are the same size punching each other. So it makes the fights less enjoyable to my eyes.

Why did mayweather pay a fine then? It was agreed upon by mayweather and marquez that the fight was at 144 catchweight not 147. It was on the contract that MAYWEATHER SIGNED. But he did not honor that contracted weight and therefore paying marquez a lot of money I believe it was $300k.
It wasn't supposed to be at the divisional limit of 147. If it was and you said mayweather was under it then why did he pay marquez a lot of money?
very true but its not even just Canelo though. Look at Chavez Jr, Salido, Mayweather (vs Marquez) off the top of my head. The weight classes are there for fighters safety ffs
Run along Chuck, grown ups are talking...

Your talking about a guy that won his first "title" at JMW by fighting an unranked WW at a catchweight and didn't even make the weight himself. Then he defended his title several times against....well........welterweights. And then he finally fought a ranked JMW, in Texas, with open scoring with scorecards that were filled out before the opening bell rang. Then he got the biggest payday of his life in a fight where he lost every single round.
So yeah, this just adds to the continuing list of bull**** that has been going on with a certain fighter in this sport for years.
this is exactly why i've disliked tomato canelol for so long. dude is the equivalent of a manufactured disney pop star.
****'s disgusting. It happened with Broner, Mikey Garcia didn't even bother shedding the weight, Salido said **** it, Brandon Rios was notorious at the end of his 135 run.. I mean damn, I know there's more but what's the point on complaining? This **** just disappoints me as a fan.
How in the hell can Canelo go to the opposition, inform them that he's having issues, then expect Angulo to have an agreement of a max weigh in on Saturday? ****'s straight up bananas

So much truth in this post about the soulless one.

That was epic.
This is becoming a big problem. Any money paid to the boxer for continuing with the fight even though his opponent did not make weight should come from the fighter who didn't make weights purse and not the promoter. At least this would motivate the fighters to make weight or at least not sign contracts at a weight they don't have to make.
If I were a manager and my fighter made weight and his opponent chose not to, I would pull my fighter out rather than enter the fight with an unfair advantage. An advantage which is sometimes known by the fighter when the contract was signed.

This! I guess they need to sell something marketable like this bum. Not buying this **** on principle.
