I got Floyd...he is more adaptable out of the two. Speed advantage better defense and outskills dlh...dlh may drop him with that devil of a left hook . But I see Mayweather landing the cleaner shots. When dealing with boxers even past prime ones dlh couldn't get them out of there like Whitaker, Camacho. Mayweather was the total package and the straight right beats a hook 9/10...dlh didn't struggle with strong guys but smaller faster or slicker ones with good legs like Mosley, Pacquiao, Forbes, and Whitaker
Mayweather SD in a competitive fight where his cleaner shots and better defense seals the deal.
DLH, without a doubt. A past his prime version of DLH managed to get a split decision against Mayweather, a prime one would have gotten that second scorecard in his favor.
That SD with Oscar holds as much water as the canelo MD....which is none
Oscar held his own til the last 3Rd of the fight 8 rounds to 4 clearly for Mayweather....no more than 5 rounds for Oscar and that's being generous

Mayweather was at his prime at 140...like a previous poster explained. The combination of experience with what he already had physically, he also was calmer in the ring, transitioning from defense to offense better also counterpunching. His power was still there and he was meaner....he was defensively responsible but he battered gatti, corely, and bruseles
No one wanted to fight Floyd at 140 at the time...Hatton and cotto were not ready this is what their own camps said...around 03 to 06 Mayweather called out everyone...now he calls the shots
Prime Floyd barely beat old man Oscar
i’m in the other 50% that thought oscar won the fight. it’s not that I’m complaining but that fight can go either way.
If you go off the eye test and his culmination of his skill, talent and physical ability, 140 is considered by most to be his best weight. 130 is where he accomplished the most but he was still learning during his days there. By the time he got to 140, he was a truly polished product as he became a better inside fighter and was more relaxed in the ring, especially on defense.
nah, maybe Floyd more than any great fighter in history is a guy we never got to see the best of, simply because he moved up in weight far too quick to get the big money fights. He was super small at every weight after SFW. He couldve stayed at LW for years, 140 for years, and just recently moved to WW.
That Floyd would be looked at totally different then now. He would look even more dominant and have more KO's. At 135 he was coming into the ring at 138 pounds, only stayed there for 4 fights and moved to 140 where he again was only coming into the ring at 143 pounds. Stayed there for only 3 fights and then went to WW.
I remember he fought Zab at WW and was 146 on fight night at the exact same time Pac was fighting at 130 and coming into the ring at 145 pounds. Just a 1 pound difference on fight night but 4 weight classes apart. I wish Floyd just couldve stayed lower for longer like other guys have.
He was great at 140 but not nowhere near as good as he wouldve been if he stayed there for 2 more years, got stronger, and more experinced. Same with LW. No one looks at that stuff because he's undefeated but he still hasnt looked anywhere near as good as he couldve looked if he wouldve stayed at his natural weights longer

Floyd was a HOF fighter at 130, 2 division below before he even came to 140 so that is not his best weight
At least I wasn't the only one to scratch my head at 140 being Floyds best weight....or him being prime at 147...his best weight and prime were at much lower weights.
De La Hoya was a beast at 140...fast hands and knockout power! I think it would have been a hell of a fight! I think Oscar would have edged it. Great match up...:fing02:
In the fight they had I had Mayweather winning by a large margin and even then he did some coasting and probably could have won by even more if need be. Oscar was a 154 pounder and Mayweather was a small welterweight. With both men fighting when they were natural 140 pounders Mayweather was better.
Floyd in his prime at lighter weights would be even faster and throw punches in combo's, Oscar was a great fighter and had one of the best jabs in the business but i think Floyd just always finds away to win,to many tools in the bag
Mayweather wins in my opinion. He has the edge in speed, defense, ring smarts and stamina. Mayweather is just a little better and trained harder than Oscar. Oscar was sort of a one handed fighter with a great left jab and left hook and a very average right. He is left handed. Mayweather has two great hands. His offense was better overall although not by that much. Look at the record. Mayweather always shows up in top shape and always wins while Oscar had his share of loses and was not always in top shape. Mayweather is still great at 37 while Oscar was retired by Pacquiao long before he was 37.
Oscar, maybe by knockout. He showed he could outbox Mayweather when he used the jab. When they fought he couldn't use the jab the whole fight but when he was younger he could.
