I see a lot of people talking ATG this and ATG that but yet turn around and criticize someone like Oscar for not being great.
Ok, what makes him so much greater than Oscar? Judging from watching a lot of their fights, Oscar had better technique along with having a lot of better opponents(my 2c). So why can't Oscar be in the same boat of ATGs?
DLH fought more top rated fighters..,and caught some L's
Mosley*
Tito*
Hop***
Pac**
May
* = robbery
** = his worst version
*** = dive
Hagler is the ''better'' fighter of the 2, not the most tested.
ODLH is missing the "it" factor that makes a fighter a top ATG. He quit/dived against a 40 year old, he lost against 36 y/o Whitaker, he lost against his rival in Trinidad. The guy comes up short and shoves silverware in his *******, and sleeps with minors.
Naw he was just a drunk and a woman beater that lost to a dude coming off a 3yr lay off, lost to a LW Duran.
Besides what do u know about DLH and minors? Your people dont check paperwork. You know that.
He dominated one of the best divisions at middleweight and fought everybody.
Oscar's an ATG too, but he also got gift decisions against Whittaker & arguably Quartey.
Hagler on the other hand was known for getting robbed.
I think both are ATGs & I do agree that Oscar is underrated sometimes, but I genuinely don't think that modern generations understand how dominant Hagler was.
Hagler was prime Tyson, prime Foreman levels of dominant at probably the 2nd greatest weight class historically.

there are two things about oscar
1. boxing purists don't like him
2. he got screwed over in a lot of big fights
these two are the reasons why he's massively underrated.
and yeah the guy had a gold medal, he had a more refined boxing style than hagler.
Boxing purists love to go against a guy who has the biggest fanbase and is the face of boxing. In some cases I get it like when people dont like Canelo (Joshua is the face of boxing but that is besides the point) but with him I understand it because hes a cheat. With Oscar De La Hoya it just seems to be jealousy
Imagine the crap De la hoya would've caught if he hung out at 135 and just beat up on guys coming up.
Their resumes are pretty close but Oscar never established dominance at a weight like Hagler did so people will favor that more
Correct had Oscar just stayed at 140 he probably doesnt lose until 2004 or 2004 to someone like Mayweather
When I talk about h2h I mean if they the same size, like p4p. I realize in real life hagler would be way too big and it would be a mismatch..
I just feel hagler is the better fighter.. Both are great and I don't have some sort of formula to prove that hagler is better, I'm just going by what I see in the ring from both guys..
Prime vs prime oscar would have a very tough time with haglers jab and his ability to switch from righty to southpaw. Much like how Ike bothered and battered oscar, I can only imagine how hagler would batter oscar with his sledgehammer jab, and Marvin has a granite chin and wouldn't get dropped like quartey did, and factor in that hagler is a bigger puncher than Ike, and I think he would just be too much for oscar.. That's why I rank him higher
I think Wlad h2h beats a lot of the past greats at HW, so you're saying I should put him in front of people that have accomplished more? SMH!
I'm going from what I see in the ring as well, plus many other things.
Like I said, fantasy land is a complete waste and stupid to judge the greatness of a boxer. Not calling you stupid btw, but you should really look at your standards because it's very flawed.
accomplishments and ability. he was a more able fighter who accomplished more.
anybody who thinks hagler is less skilled than oscar is an idiot.
What did he accomplish more?
So because I watched fights from both boxers and stated my opinion, I'm an idiot? I sat down to watch and analyse. Oscar displayed better technique against better dudes most of the time. Both dudes are exciting though. One thing Hagler doesn't have is being boring.
Please explain to me how Hagler has accomplished more....very curious on your opinion.
Hagler is way better than de la Hoya. De la Hoya was just fame like canelo. All his big wins are past prime big names and lost all big fights. Hagler beat guys like Duran hearns the beast Mugabi and the fights he lost to me he was robbed. De la Hoya had some robberies in his favor(strum comes to mind) as well(cash cow) and haggler lost to Leonard for the same reason cuz Leonard had a bigger name. He didn't hurt haggler in any second and flurried the las 10 second of each round and robbed the fight one of the scorecards was a joke as well.
Are you incapable of seeing the irony in your own post? You're discrediting De La Hoya's big wins for being "past prime" while lauding Hagler's win over Duran. And if you're counting Leonard among those "big wins", just look at what you're counting: a career welterweight, coming off of a three year retirement (one fight in five years in total), who was last seen in a ring getting dropped by a fringe contender and looking a pale shadow of his former self.
Hagler would stalk down De La Hoya from the opening bell and pound him to the body and head. No way De La Hoya makes it the full distance unless he runs the whole fight.
Funny how these little hypothetical matchups never involve Hagler fighting someone from the higher weight classes, isn't it? It's always some welterweight thrown in there with Hagler.
I somehow doubt Hagler would be perceived as so dominant if he ever took a risk and fought guys like Spinks and Qawi. Or even a better, more talent rich division, for that matter (the late 80's/early 90's, for example.)
ill give you an example.
My younger brother started watching boxing for the last couple years. He started to watch some of the older guys like hagler and hearns.
The first thing he says to me is damn these guys dont look as skilled as todays fighters.
Now i know better than that but skill wise de la hoya is a gold medalist and i would put him above hagler in skills but hagler is higher on the list for resume and winning the bigger fights.
but this is almost the same argument i had with someone when i said that skill for skill floyd stands above ray robinson. Ive watched film on ray and hes not gonna beat floyd.
Its rediculous to think todays fighters cant beat the greats
robinson's filmed work is mostly in the 1950's, and at middleweight. there are some clips of his welterweight work bouncing around. the quality isn't great, and the fights havn't been fullies from what i have seen.
lets see how floyd looks after 90 fights and at middleweight.
robinson wasn't the skilled boxer and defensive specialist that mayweather is. nobody who knows historic boxing will argue that. he's one of the hardest punchers ever, and had perhaps the greatest chin of all time. you can make up for defensive shortcomings when you have one punch power and the greatest chin of all time. Robinson wasn't as hard to hit as floyd. it didn't matter. he's a more able fighter with a much better resume.
robinson is definitely not getting rocked by shane mosley.
ill give you an example.

Delahoya stacks up very well. People just like to rag on him for his losses.
De La Hoya also did some work at 130. The other two guys to division climb like that in recent times are Pac and Floyd (and less successfully, Toney) which is obviously elite company.
