Let’s change the game of boxing! That is our new boxing apps slogan, and that is really our dream. That’s why we need your, the real boxing fans, help. We are looking for people to be part of our focus group and help develop this app that we call “4th Judge”.
We only have 3 criteria’s:
1: You love boxing
2: You are on facebook
3: You use apps on your Smartphone
What is the app? It’s an online app driven boxing community, which have the boxing judge’s scorecard in focus. We don’t always think the judges’ get the fight scoring completely right, so that’s why we want to make a community of fans that can show and debate who really won the fight. We want to give boxing fight that 4th scorecard.
If you are just a bit interested find us on facebook. Just search “4th judge”. There you will find more info and a promo video. Remember this is just for fun, we just need you help as much as you like we have no demands other than the 3 listed a top. We just want to bring fight fans together and build the perfect app with your help.
Please visit “4th Judge” on facebook!
A way to solve the bias some of us will surely have could be the Gamification of the app.
Users could earn rankings by often voting and voting the right way. Thus these users could level up to higher ranks (from "couch referee" over "backyard scorer" to "world title referee"). The scores of the higher ranked users could weigh in more then someone with only 2 or 3 fights scored.
Another way could be looking back: If someone scored several fights for a specific fighter prior to the current fight out of the normal standard equation for that fight (basicly scored to good or to bad on several occasions) then in the current fight that bias should be tried to calculate and removed.
Tough work.
Work on it and this app will be great :)
Boxing is a niche sport. Can the ads sustain it?
We hope so. It's not expensive to run an app, and we know we are not gone make a living of this, but we really wanna make something special for this great sport. That I don't really consider i niche sport. So many people love boxing, but understanding the scorecards is a different matter :)
I want an App that actually shows me round by round scoring. A simplified 117-115 118-114 114-114
or whatever seems not too bad, but what if the judges gave each round to the others etc... sometimes it really annoys me to not be able to see the full score cards.
An app like that I would love, sometimes google doesn't get results.
It's just for my benefit really, but I would use it.
I agree, but I think it's really hard to get a hold of the complete scorecards, but you are right when possible the app should be show each round for all 3 judges.

Thanks for all the great feedback. We still need about 30 people to be part of our focus group. Så hopefully many more of you fine people will find us on Facebook
When it gets up and running it should give each person with an account who is scoring a fight reputation based on how they scored previous fights compared to how the majority of people scored the same fights in order to figure out biases. People who are outliers should have less rep power
You need to really think about how to solve this problem, wether it's like a "ranking" from other users like karma or something else. You need to make some kind of filter so that what you get is what you need, elsewhere it'll just be another forum and the idea goes out the window.
You could also do some listing of every scorecard the poster has posted, and then rate each scorecard and from that give the user a ranking. If you are in minus/bad karma then you can't vote.
Maybe in your results you could break down in percentages how many of these votes for fighters were from previous biased voters.
It's is really great ideas, and we really acknowledge that this is our biggest challenge, but I think it can be solved. That is really my belief.
But hope you both will join the Facebook page because it really sound like you have great ideas to perfect this app.
We are trying at least :) and sure we only got 2 likes right now, but we just started the site 2 hours ago ;) Give it time

I like the idea, but the 4th judge would be just as flawed as the 3 others. As people say, biased fans kinda messes with the idea, because you can't really filter it.
2 likes on Facebook ain't gonna change the game though…

basically this ... enough of canelo's fans voting would have him beating floyd on this 4th judge's card.
I suppose
1. if you added something where one person would only be able to vote on every 2nd fight involving a particular fighter - unless they have a lot of other votes on other fights in between
2. and then to avoid spam votes - People have their votes weighted ... i.e. voters who consistently vote in the major minority e.g. say somebody votes for bradley over pac ... or heaven forbid canelo over mayweather where 99.9% of everybody else votes the other way have the'r next vote reduced to say 1/2 a vote or something and if they continue in this trend their votes eventually become meaningless ... conversly people who seem to vote consistently for the perceived correct winner have their vote weighted in the other way so eventually their vote is equal to 9 or 10 sh*itty retarded/nuthugger votes.
3. to increase the accuracy of point 2 ... a round by round voting system could be brought in under the same criteria as above ... this is kept private to avoid people simply copying the popular votes (to increase the weight of their vote) and so ensure the scoring is legit.
Thanks for great ideas! They will definitely be part of our formula to ensure a perfect scoring system without fans of a certain fighter dictating the 4th judge scorecard.
Hope you are joint us 2 on Facebook

Good idea but how do you deal with biased nuthuggers? I mean I'm a huge Marquez fan, but how would the app combat the fans like the ones who scored the Bradley fight for Marquez for example?
We really have been thinking a lot about this problem. The most important think is a high credibility.
We are working on a advanced mathematically formula/matrix to avoid bias towards a specific fighter.
Hope you will join us on Facebook, and be part of perfecting this app.
