canelo's chin has never been tested and has no consistent fighting style, maybe he doesn't have the stamina. he loves to throw power punches but lacks the handspeed. he also has little or no footwork at all. defense is average at best.
broner's been tested but failed to step up to the plate. his defense isn't as good as many people said and has mediocre footwork. he has handspeed and accuracy but his inside game is pathetic and clintches his way out of danger.
both fighters were suppose to be the next face of boxing.
i pick broner just because of the fact his defense ain't that good.
your thoughts?
What bull**** are you talking? The reason Canelo is a PPV headliner is because the kid is a massive draw! You don't need to be over rated or under rated to be a PPV draw!
Arturo Gatti was an average fighter all his life, but was a huge draw from an early age due to his style and exciting fights! Now I don't think anybody would have ever called him a p4p worthy fighter!
An Irish guy John Duddy, was big in the USA a few years ago due to the large irish contingent in America! He was never overrated, the guy was a walking punching bag that had a cinder block chin!
News flash Canelo is fighting a fellow Mexican who is also a big draw, and the fight is PPV because it will sell well with the huge Latino market and some casual fans! It's called business sense and doesn't impact how each fighters ability is perceived!!
Oh and btw why are you bringing up Feroz? The guy retired years ago, this is a discussion about Broner and Alvarez!
True he is a big draw,, but his team and handlers and media act like he was the next greatest thing to come to boxing.. He literally has not showed anything except for being a decent fighter.. He is no way the next oscar, or even Mexican legend.. Gatti was never a big PPv attraction, especially after he would get whooped, he didn't immediately comeback on PPv...
Canelo has to have more hype than broner... Both have accomplished very little, neither had a hot streak of fights, but broner was considered a "future" star, whereas canelo is thought of as a current superstar...
I only mention Vargas because he was a young champ at 20 like canelo, and destroyed guys, whereas canelo has not looked dominant vs hatton, trout, Rhodes, old mosely.. I just don't see how canelo has earned this popularity or hype..

These scores were taken just after the Canelo-Trout fight, so it can't be argued that people scored the fight for Trout to try to discredit Floyd, who hadn't announced Canelo as an opponent yet.
Oh no, the fight score collector? Really? The guy gets the meat of his scores from websites. I see his posts all the time and I just laugh.
Thanks for the media scorecards though :boxing:
Canelo has to be the more overrated,,,, both are hype jobs, but canelo is getting put into a ppv main event after getting undressed by floyd
Neither has impressed me much in terms of being the next major superstar,, Fernando Vargas was a much better prospect than canelo
Broner hasnt headlined any ppv yet, let alone headlining one after an embarrassing loss
Canelo has the most hype of any up coming fighter, so it has to be Canelo

Come on? Where is your source for this?

Most fans scored the Canelo vs Trout fight for Trout. There is no possible way a fans could have scored Lara vs Trout for Trout. Also, Lara beat Williams who Floyd avoided by taking a 2-year holiday.

It's amazing to me that Canelo is "overrated" when he and Lara have the same top win, but Lara is now seen as this monster (yet struggled vs friggen Vanes and Molina)

This 100%, especially about vargas he was way better than canelo at his age. I think the open scoring hurt trout in the canelo fight. I mean that one card was like 79-72 canelo after nine rounds. I think trout tried to push the fight after that because he realized he wasn't getting a decision, and that was the reason he lost the fight 114-113(my score).
Canelo held the WBC 154 pound belt for 2 years before he beat a legitimate top 10 contender at the weight...and a lot of people thought he lost to Trout....no, Mosley, Baldo and Cintron do not count
Vazquez wasn't at his best weight honestly. He fights at 135...Canelo fights at 154 and is a huge 154
That is not a great resume
I'm sorry
I think people are picking Canelo as less overrated because they hate Broner so much. He just has better resume than Saul does
You realise that Canelo fought Vasquez when he was 16 and 18 at 140 & 147 respectively! No way was Canelo bigger than Vasquez either times as he hadn't developed physically.. Now I never seen the fights and it wouldn't surprise me if Vasquez was shafted in those fights as I'm sure the Mexican judges would favour Canelos style over Vasquez! Saying that, as is it's a good win in Canelos career!
Canelo fought Ryan Rhodes in his first fight after getting the belt! I agree Canelo shouldn't have got to fight Hatton for the vacant belt but that isn't holding on to the belt "for 2 years" before fighting a legit 154!
FYI Rhodes is a much more legit opponent than Litzau, tell us why you don't think Mosley, Cintron and Baldo don't count?
I am one of those who thought that Trout beat Alvarez, but that's irrelevant now he's got some good names on his resume!
You mentioned Ponce for Broner yet dismissed trout for Alvarez!? Broner lost to ponce more clearly than Alvarez to trout!, Broner also lost to Quintero quite clearly! You also mentioned about Canelos big weight advantage over opponents? What of Broner's weight advantage over guys at 130 (a division where he was given a title also, and fought nobody at the weight) and 135, where he fought one legit guy in De Marco! He'll Broner outweighed Maidana on fight night but you don't mention that!
People say Canelo is not as overrated as Broner because it's true, not because of the hate!

Just some info on Canelo vs Vazquez,.
Both guys started their careers at welterweight. Vazquez holds a height and reach advantage over Alvarez . Alvarez was around 16 and Vazquez 20 ,if I'm not mistaken ,so basically Canelo was still a skinny boy and nowhere near as thick as he is now. Weight was not an issue, in fact Vazquez had all the advantages. He won a SD and two years later earned a UD, and aside from Bradley is the only guy to beat Vazquez.
I could be wrong but I think Rhodes was top 10 when they fought :dunno:
How can Canelo be overrated when his first legit loss is to the current #1 P4P, at 23 years of age no less?
That Trout fight was extremely close. Most the fans had it scored for Trout.
Broner is good although he was overrated before the Maidana loss. He has very poor reflexes for such a young man.
Well the Broner hype is pretty much gone now thankfully. We'll see how Canelo handles Angulo. I still think he's overrated considering his biggest test before Mayweather was Trout and to me he lost 5 rounds. And outside of Trout his resume is a joke.
Absolutely agree with you.
When was Litzau a champ? Oh, that's right, NEVER. Broner lost to Ponce De Leon, and arguably lost to Malignaggi. DeMarco is Broner's only decent win.
I don't see how you would count Litzau as legit for Broner, but not include Mosley, Cintron, and Baldomir on Canelo's resume. And Miguel Vazquez twice.

It's Broner and it's not even close. Broner didn't really do jack and he gets pushed on the top 5 P4P list. He should of lost to De Leon and Malignaggi but it is what it is. Alvarez beating Trout is much better than beating anyone on Broner's resume(my opinion).
