Mayweather September Opponent?

angulo is not on the list but if he pulls the upset there's your mexican opponent. that fight could very likely happen.

i don't think garcia is in any hurry to fight mayweather. it will probably be khan. it should be thurman or lara.

It's definitely khan as long as he puts on a great performance in his next fight but he has to get rid of his trainer cause him and khan are not a good combination

If Khan fights and beats Porter next I think he will get it. Easier to sell with Khan coming off an impressive win and it being a unification fight.

I think Danny feels he can wait until next year for Mayweather and hopefully catch him on the decline. Will be interesting to see who they choose. We have seen a lot of different type of fighters on Cinco de Mayo that are not neccassarily Mexican. Hatton/Pac and Floyd/Mosley come to mind. But Mexican Independence day weekend has always had a big Mexican draw. I don't see that option for Floyd right now unless a lot changes between now and then.

Mayweather is the 154 pound champion of the world even if he did win it at a BS catchweight of 152 pounds top weight. As champion he is is supposed to defend his title a minimum of once a year. So if he does not defend his 154 pound title in September then he should do the right thing and step down from his 154 pound title the moment he knows he won't be defending it in September. Let the other good 154 pounders have a chance to be champion.

Danny Garcia but that doesn't look too likely now either. I assumed Danny would make his WW debut in his next fight then fight Mayweather in September but now he's obviously not fighting at WW which makes me think he won't want to fight Mayweather in Sep. So I'm really not sure who the Sep opponent will be. Hopefully Thurman does fight Matthysse and the winner of that can possibly be the Sep opponent. It'll be Garcia. They gave him this easy fight in March in Puerto Rico, then he'll have a 147 fight probably against Malignaggi in June to set up the Mayweather fight.

If Cotto manages to somehow beat Martinez then I could see Mayweather making a move to face Cotto, unfortunately unless Martinez looks absolutely terrible in winning I can't see Mayweather taking the fight! Yes don't be surprised if Floyd finally fights Sergio, if Sergio looks terrible beating Miguel, if he wins that is. Floyd never takes risks, it took Miguel to show Floyd the way. Floyd don't take the Sergio fight as hes scared of losing, rather than the joy of possibility of beating Sergio. Miguel on the other hand knows very well he can lose to Sergio, but the credit for winning was too much to pass up the opportunity.

Let me ask. Why the hell would you want to watch that fight? You really want Floyd to waste one of his fights on a guy he already beat, and could beat even more handily regardless of weight? And Floyd at MW would be a worse product for the viewers. Why would you want to watch a slower version of Floyd fighting an old ass Cotto?

Yeah I agree that Danny has ruled himself out of the fight until 2015.. Personally I'd love to see him fight the winner of Cotto vs Martinez, or failing that Lara but I don't think either are really realistic! I think he'll fight either the loser of the May sweepstakes or Shawn Porter if he still has his belt by then!

Winner of Lucas/Thurman. IF that fight actually happens. That's the trend they were going for with Danny/Lucas, but Danny didn't want to fight him. Plus the exposure from being on the under card will make the fight sell able, especially if either guy calls him out during the post fight interview.
