So far in 2014 boxing has sucked. We are almost three months into the year and we have yet to see a high-quality matchup. We have seen nothing but mismatches so far and, other than Bradley/Pacquaio, we have no high-quality fights scheduled where the outcome is in dispute until June (Cotto/Martinez). Froch/Groves II is coming up, but we may not get to see that fight in the U.S.
GBP has a loaded stable of fighters, but none of them are scheduled to fight in a high-quality fight anytime soon. Alvarez/Angulo is a crappy fight that should be on regular Showtime instead of PPV. Danny Garcia has a fight coming up against a fighter no one has ever heard of. There are no fights on the horizon or no decent fights for Robert Guerrerro, Keith Thurman, Matthysse, Lara, Mares, Johnny Gonzalez, Shawn Porter or any of their other fighters. No fights scheduled for Andre Ward. No quality fights scheduled at light-heavyweight. All the heavyweights are afraid to fight each other because they are afraid they will lose their place in line against Wladimir Klithschko. We have Top Rank feeding us a load of bullsh.t in Orlando Salido fighting a guy with one professional fight and calling it a world championship fight and trying to tell us that JMM against a journeyman who has lost two of his last three fights is a quality matchup.
This is going to turn out to be one of the worst years for boxing in the last two decades in terms of quality fights. You can blame whoever you want, and there is plenty of blame to go around. But, regardless of who you blame, boxing sucks right now!!!!!!
Yes it has been. So was last year and 2012. People get fooled by the year ending with good fights and have a false memory of the year as a whole.
Thats just me. It may be because i sat thru the Miguel Vasquez fight this morning and am just bitter
Chisora vs Pervertkin should be good.
Has that fight been confirmed?
Pac-Brad and Cotto-Martinez are good upcomers. Ginger-Angulo and Froch-Grover will be quite good. Maidana-Mayweather and Chavez-Vera will be decent, but, yeah, much of the rest sucks anal hole.
But you have to remember that if Martinez beats Cotto, and he probably will, he will probably fight Golovkin later in the year. Also, Stevenson and Kovalev might fight; you never know.
There has been some decent fights so far this year. Guerrero Rosas was a war and Peterson Jean was a pretty good scrap, but its still early in the year.
We're only a few weeks away from Alvarez Angulo, Figueroa Alvarez, Santa Cruz Mijares, and Linares Arakawa. I think almost all those fights will deliver.
If you follow the little guys there are some great fights on the horizon.
April
Martinez Hasegawa should be good.
Hernadez Inoue should produce fire works.
May
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Carlos Cuadrad has foty written all over it.
August
Yaegashi Gonzalez will likely be made in this month.
WTF's with the thread title?
baseball has an off season as does football and just about every sport that's played.
We are a little over 10% through the year and already you're bithching?
I bet you baseball fans are terrible to be around for those 5 MONTHS of their sports off season.
watch what is available, atleast it's there. Check out your local cards.
and if you disregard records you might actually recognize a good fight or two.
Rub some dirt in it kid! ................. Rockin':boxing:
First of all, I don't watch baseball, but answer this question for me: How many baseball games are played during the off-season, dumbass? Boxing doesn't have an off-season. There are fights year-round. Also, baseball doesn't ask its fans to pay $30 to $60 to watch the number one team in the division play the team that is tied for last place. Through ten percent through the baseball season, you will have seen all the top teams play each other at least once, unlike boxing. That isn't the case in boxing
I never said there were no good cards. There are a lot of good cards featuring middle tier fighters. What I said was we are seeing few fights featuring the top fighters in boxing fighting other quality fighters. You are either too dumb to understand what I said or too stupid to spend time on a computer without your mother's supervision.
It is February,chill out
So, you are saying I should wait until June or July to start bit.ching and griping? There are enough quality fighters out there and enough potential quality matchups that we should see two to three great quality matchups every month. I hate MMA, but at least they pit quality fighters in quality matchups every time they appear on television.
You're forgetting Anthony Mundine vs Joshua Clottey, bro.
Yes. I forgot about these two guys who are ranked in the Top 10 P4P rankings. Did you actually read my post? I didn't say there were no fights on the horizon. I said there are few featuring the best fighting high quality opponents.
Is that your idea of sarcasm or are you actually saying that Gary Russell Jr. vs TBA is a high-quality fight?
I'm pretty sure that's sarcasm. It has to be right?
Gary Russell Jr. vs TBA bro, do you even follow boxing?
Is that your idea of sarcasm or are you actually saying that Gary Russell Jr. vs TBA is a high-quality fight?
Well it's the beginning of the year. This is just a bit of downtime after that incredible end to 2013. There are some good fights to look forward to. Look at it this way, it can only get better.
Mikey Garcia vs Gamboa (if signed) will be great.
Canelo will probably land Lara or Cotto by years end.
Last year, i believe Golden Boy/Showtime had lots of quality fights early in the year and HBO/Toprank took care of most of the 2nd half. Who knows, maybe we are in store for a hell of 2nd half with both stacking up fights! Lets hope so.
There was a KO of the year candidate and a fight of the year candidate today.
If you knew where to look.
Also Angulo Vs Canelo will be good, Salido vs Lomachenko, Chavez vs Vera, Pac vs Bradley, Arreola vs Stiverne...
Just let things play out. Last year started slow and ended up one of the best in recent memory
Well we're in February but I know what you mean. There doesn't seem to be too many scheduled fights that are actually worthy. Garcia-Gamboa, Martinez-Cotto, Groves-Froch II should be good, Pac-Bradley and Mayweather-Maidana* would be fair. Marquez-Alvarado sounds like a cool fight. Canelo-Angulo should be nothing but action. Provodnikov-DeMarco could be interesting if DeMarco holds up.
