no one ever really talks about the specific part of the KO itself but to me that may have been the greatest or one of the greatest single moves (or whatever you want to call it) in boxing history. The way Tito throws his patented left hook but Hopkins did something you rarely ever see done.
He actually block Tito's left hook with his own left forearm. Thats crazy. He brought his left arm across his body to block Tito's left hook. Then to finish it off in that same single motion he comes back with his own right right hook even though he's a righty. Just an ATG move to me that I think goes somewhat overlooked.
you can see it here live at the 1:16 mark and the replay at like 1:17:30
He blocked tito's vaunted left hook and countered beautifully with his own hook... Awesome performance from round 1 to 12.... Master class in boxing,, everyone should watch that fight... Hopkins truly put on one of the greatest performances ever
I pop this fight in my dvd player about once a month. Lampley summarized it well when he said, "This is a cold, clinical performance from a true professional in Bernard Hopkins."

Comparing Hagler's "smaller" opponents to Hopkins's opponents, just isn't fair, really. Did you know that Duran was the first fighter to go all 15 with Hagler in a championship fight? We all know that Duran wasn't normal. No one on Hopkins list of opponents were tougher than Duran. I don't care how big or small they were. How about the killer that John The Beast Mugabi was when Hagler Ko'ed him? Would Hopkins had done the same? It's debatable man. Hagler's toughness and relentlessness was rare. Hopkins is a good fighter who is good at surviving but his fighting style sucks. It always has. In my opinion, he's over-rated.
Contrary to popular opinion mugabi was only a "killer" because he was fighting nobodies. Hagler went life and death with him and that gave mugabi a reputation like he was some beast though he never beat anyone good and was knocked out multiple times after hagler and in much quicker fashion. To get to the point mugabi sucked.
And lets see how hagler would of done if he kept fighting and had to get in there with guys like the body snatcher or young james toney. He would of been creamed and would be viewed like jones jr now but even worse. But he retired at 32 to avoid all that didn't he.
Can't have a Tito - Hopkins thread without posting this.
One of my favourite entrances of all time.
Love that song as well even though i don't understand a word of it :lol1:
We could do this all day, man. I know the sport. I will not go back and forth with you on my opinion. That's why it's MY OPINION. It's not up for debate. Hagler was the better fighter. Better jab, better combination puncher, better work-rate, and he was tougher. He would out-work Hopkins at worse. Who was Hagler's best win? Does it matter? All you need to know is that Hagler would've Ko'ed Jermaine Taylor; something your feather-fisted boy couldn't do.
Not to mention hagler got out boxed by two journeyman and lost to a welterweight and went life and death with a blown up lightweight in duran. At least hopkins had the decency to KO the smaller guys unlike Hagler who could barley beat them.

lol hopkins fought taylor at 40 years old hagler retired at 32. Taylor would of knocked out hagler in one round if he fought him when he was 40 idiot. Hopkins in his prime was a superior boxer to hagler and would have beat him on points.
Smaller fighters.....

the outcome would,ve been the same prior to 9/11 Hopkins beats him the weekend on the scheduled date or, two weeks after 9/11...either way Hopkins wins...
Have to give props to Hopkins, he exposed this cheater, Tito's "famous" left hook was nothing without his wraps, too bad he kept wrapping his hands the same way after this loss.:bottle:
There was only one hand that needed to be re-wrapped and it was his right hand.
No need........

Yeahs and a lot of trainers wont even teach the right hook claiming its not a legitimate punch
If you skip to an hour sixteen or so, after Trinidad is up and his corner is coming to him, it looks like he knocked Hopkins out. Hopkins is flat on his back in the center of the ring like he got put down.
My opinion
Why is this even a thread? Hopkins defeated Tito for the same reasons he defeated Oscar, Wright, and Pavlik. He was too BIG! He did what he was supposed to do in those fights. What was so impressive about any of those wins? Would he have done that to a fighter his size? Of course not. Hopkins is feather-fisted. He has decent pop in the right hand but that's it. I never liked him or his "survival" style. He should've been a wrestler. He's over-rated. Hagler and Monzon both were better and would've beat him. Hagler is the greatest middleweight ever, not Robinson. Leonard is the greatest "Sugar" and would've beaten both Hopkins and Robinson.
He intentionally blocked that Tito hook, it's like he knew Tito would throw it and anticipate him throwing it, blocking it and then countering with his own right hand. It was a genuinely beautiful move by B-hop.
Even a blind man could tell Tito was going to throw his left hook. He always did. So there was no secret about it.
Are you stupid? Its beautiful, perfect catch and counter, but that is the same way every fighter in history has blocked a left hook, nothing special about it. He kept his glove pinned to his face, like he always does, and capitalized on Tito being lazy bringing his hook back low and not moving his head.
That's what a good boxer suppost to do, "keep your hands up"

Lol u are just a hater. Unlike your countryman tito didn't have anything in his gloves he just wrapped his gloves a certain way for every fight. The way he wrapped his hands was and is allowed everywhere except in New York. Your guy loaded his gloves **** Margacheato
