I read a lot on this site about former undefeated fighters(and even very good fighters who few loses) who were "exposed" after they lost a fight.
Povetkin got "exposed" by Vladdy KO after he lost. No,he lost to the baddest man on the planet. He was an unbeaten gold medalist at HW and is still legit.
Broner got "exposed" by Maidana. No, he lost to a world class boxer who has great skills and can flat out scrap. Maidana is must see tv,like him or love him.
Canelo lost to Money May and got "exposed." No, he lost to P4P # 1 fighter on the planet,no shame..come back strong and earn a rematch or other huge fights.
Those who keep typing this b.s. have not been around boxing and I for one would question if they've ever spent time in a ring. If anyone has ever boxed and says that they have never been hurt or knocked down(been there, done that) in boxing, then they are either a liar or not fighting anyone good.
Joe Louis is the best HW of all time. He lost fights.
Ali did. The best fighter of all-time is Sugar Ray Robinson..and he lost fights. I guess they all got "exposed."
What is up with this trend?
:boxing::boxing::boxing:
Make no mistakes, Broner has sold himself well as a "bad guy type." I loved the Maidana beatdown and hate the flushing of hard earned money. He lost but not sure that he was "exposed" by losing one fight to a world class fighter. In fact, he showed me personally in this lost then almost all of his wins combined by getting up and having a chance to win.:boxing::boxing::boxing:Exposed is when people are calling him the next Mayweather and he isn't even as good as the next Berto. It is called Boxing putting him on a pedestal so high and him trying to live that lifestyle and then reality sets in. He and his fans were calling Maidana "easy work" and some actually bought into it.
You would know, since how you are so sensitive when it comes to GGG. You asked a question and I gave you an answer. Nothing to do with love or hate in my original post, you on the other hand has shown nothing but hate toward fighters from Mayweather downwards, I don't hate the guy I guy his fanatics like yourself that's all... And I attack his fanatics by using their little logics against them, something that irritates and gets you lot mad.
Gay Ray's bitter over the fact that so many of the ardent Mayweather (his idol) critics are Golovkin fanboys. :lol1:
beat him up? aka low blowed him close to 50 times during the fight, held every time matthysse got close, thumbed him in the eye so he went half blind for the last 6 rounds, scored a dubious knockdown after rabbit punching him behind the head so he got tangled in the ropes, only guy that was actually hurt during the fight was garcia and the ref gave him time to recover and put his mouthpiece back in, all this and he still only won by a single point. lets see the fight without tony weeks there to protect garcia and let him get away with murder. oh wait he's fighting herrera lol. let the ducking continue.
exactly this
he barely won the fight, lol @ "ass handed to him"
Lucas Matthysse was simply lied to by his team, fans/cult, media/Showtime. They lied to the poor guy, he went in there and got his ass handed to him. Talking about "Matthysse TKO3-6"...my ass. Underrated is one thing, but people had him losing to Khan and Matthysse and he beat them both up. Garcia is a straight up top 10 P4P fighter, forget about underrated.

What does 'from Mayweather downwards' mean?
He could beat Maidana 100 times and that wouldn't change a thing and that is IF he could beat Maidana.....but it isn't going to change the fact that he is probably the #1 most biggest hype job of the last decade who was exposed. He is not the star he thinks he is. Ponce, Pauli, and Maidana proved that emphatically. About Billions thought he was a superstar and tried to live the lifestyle and he wasn't even a star, let alone a superstar. It was a pleasure watching the prick get his a$$ handed to him. I'll enjoy seeing it happen again someday. He made racial slurs, filmed himself flushing money which could have fed needy people, filmed himself taking a sht, bit a security guard, seen slurping on a dancer in public, showed up over weight at a fight and not only did he not apologize, he didn't try to make the weight on a second try a couple years back, against Maidana he left the ring not before the decision but after the decision was announced, pulled that drama queen bit with the headbutt, acted like his sht didn't stink. Pure joy watching Maidana punk him.

It's fair, if he fights a top level guy and loses easily he could hit this moniker. Exposed isn't losing to a top guy, but getting blown out in your first major step up....or having a hype far beyond belief the hype was exposed.
Lucas is a good example, he lost a tough fight....as a fighter he wasn't exposed but his hype was. People gave him an aura of invincibility....even though he'd already lost.....regardless exposed usually has more to do with hype than the fighter.
IDK...in my opinion the term is kinda ridiculous (or at least ridiculously overused) - as are most of the negative statements used about fighters on boxing forums. They generally have no other aim than provoking hostility or bitterness in fans of fighters so called.
As you (indirectly) point out it's not the fighter that any detractors wish to prove as being exposed, but fans who have made claims on their behalf. Apparently many of us take pleasure in feeling that we've somehow beaten or humbled those who disagree with us. Bit sad really.
I agree with those who say a fighter who beats lots of lower-tier opponents, but then gets decimated whe he steps up to a real contender is "exposed". The exposure is proven if after that first defeat, fighters on a similar higher level continue to beat the "exposed" fighter. However, it doesn't always have to be about that. It could be a certain style and/or mentality that exposes a fighter. What is exposed is a weakness or kink in one's armour. Tyson was "the baddest man on the planet", yet Buster Douglas exposed him by fighting tall and superbly boxing. He was also unafraid of Tyson. Tyson's biggest ally after his power and skill was instilling fear in his opponents. Most of them had already lost before even getting into the ring. Holyfield and Lewis used a similar formula to Douglas in defeating Tyson. Of course, not everyone had the tools to beat even an unfocused Iron Mike. Victor Ortiz was exposed, first by Marcos Maidana, Josesito Lopez and recently Luis Collazo (that crap w/Mayweather doesn't count). Ortiz tries to impose his will on his opponents in an almost bullying manner, but if they show no fear and fight back hard, he backs off, which leaves him vulnerable.
Its just funny his how this is a thread about fighters being exposed after losing a fight and you bring golovkin into it :lol1:. You have a tighter grip on Golovkin's nuts then his huggers. Its just really odd how much you post so much about a guy you hate

Not defending Broner at all. I like his persona and Maidana beat that ass. But if fights Maidana and KOs him... This crowd on here yapping about fighters getting exposed is just wrong. He could beat Maidana 100 times and that wouldn't change a thing and that is IF he could beat Maidana.....but it isn't going to change the fact that he is probably the #1 most biggest hype job of the last decade who was exposed. this is a bad example of being "exposed". He wasn't exposed, Garcia was just underrated by most.

Depends on how they lose or fight for me.
Too me exposed is when a guy is hyped based on him beating a lot of guys who simply aren't good or/& are totally made to order stylistically then they fight a guy who say shows them movement as opposed to them fighting flat-footed, come forward guys with no defense they are accustomed to and they are found out.
I'm a believer in you can lose a fight but still expose the other fighter. An example would be Mathebula vs Donaire he showed me he could effortlessly be outboxed and was damn clueless when an opponent wasn't plodding to him in straight lines. He lost too Rigondeaux who is just exceptional but again to Darchinyan. That was the same Donaire, Vic just fought a smart fight, took his main asset away for most part which is the left hook and he looked out of ideas and was getting beaten too a pulp. Vic got careless for a second and walked into one, it happens and Donaire has game changing power. I still say it, he is overrated.
He isn't unmotivated or anything he is just a limited fighter who fell in love with power and people got blinded by that and his flashy showboating which somehow leads to believe fighters are more skilled than they are.
I hate the word exposed as it is used way too often around here. But one time where I agree with the word being used was when Pavlik lost to Hopkins. He was being hyped big time then Bernard dominated him with movement.
I look at povetkin who beat some good fighters in Donald, byrd & chambers early on. he beat some decent journeymen & a few over the hill fighters. he didn't get exposed but he also hadn't fought any big punchers who could really hurt him. Rahman 10-12 years ago would have mopped the floor with him in my opinion & all wlad did was hug him. he is still some what of an enigma to me. how good is he really? it's hard to tell still...chisora would be an interesting fight...
