WBO welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley will be using The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) for the third straight fight when he meets Manny Pacquiao on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Bradley won the belt from Pacquiao by split-decision in June of 2012.
In his last two fights, Bradley (31-0, 12 knockouts) rose from a 12th-round knockdown to secure a unanimous decision over Ruslan Provodnikov in March of last year before earning a split-decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in October.
Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs), who turned 35 in December, rebounded from the setback against Bradley and a knockout loss to Marquez by easily outpointing Brandon Rios in November in Macau, China.
Pacquiao and Rios were also randomly drug-tested by VADA, resulting in Rios' failed his post-fight drug test and his suspension for five months from the day of the fight by the China Professional Boxing Organization.
"I had it for the Provodnikov fight and the Marquez fight. I'm just trying to continue to do my do diligence as far as my career, and as far as cleaning up the sport," said Bradley. "I'm going to have the drug testing in this fight as well. We both have agreed to VADA. Like I said, we've both agreed to all of the terms and that's part of the terms, the VADA testing."
Esp the highlighted..Now why are they not using VADA again??I really want, more details about this issue..Something seems fishy..
He also voluntarily took VADA for that fight and I would anticipate him doing it for this fight as well. He knows he is clean and wants to prove it, got to commend him for that.
Bradley voluntarily took it because he wanted to force the issue and Arum allowed for it. But this time, Bob Arum is NOT allowing for VADA whatsoever this time by either fighter. Eventually, VADA will get phased out completely from Top Rank fighters.
Also, Bradley is not as foolish this time around. Why should he pay for extra testing out of his own pocket, when his opponent is not doing the same? Just to show that he's cleaner? Meanwhile, you're opponent isn't doing the same. The purpose of the testing is to make sure YOU are protected. Meanwhile, the testing is basically the same. When will you guys learn?
Yea, I expect him to use VADA as well. I think there is a link in this thread where he said he would still use it. I just don't know which way to lean on the NSAC testing...
If it's gonna be the standard for Vegas then it should apply to all fights. I don't remember any mention (of any testing) for Canelo Angulo. That makes me kinda suspicious.
VADA will NOT be used. Bob Arum already went on record and said VADA will NOT be used by either fighter for this Pacquaio vs. Marquez fight. There will be NO VADA period. Even Victor Conte is comically and unusually silent so far about their non-participation.
I agree with this..Why not make it standard for all fights, then if anybody wants extra testing fine..I don't know if VADA is still involved with this fight..I'll say this tho,I would commend Bradley if he was going to do extra testing..He should have tried to talk Manny into it as well(if he is using it)so that they'd both use extra testing..
VADA is not involved. He couldn't talk Pacquaio into anything as he's not the draw. The NSAC advanced random testing is Bob Arum's idea. And there was no way Bradley was going to talk his way out of it if he wanted the Pacquaio fight. Beggers can't be choosers. Bradley even had to agree to a contract extension, which also shows his lack of leverage.
Also, testing across the board would be cool, but it's too expensive to implement right now.

Its too expensive for all fights. Costs more than a whole FNF card

Bradley didnt have any complaints (at least in public) about the NSAC testing for the JMM fight. Sure he was upset about it before hand but not much after. Maybe he feels the NSAC is halfway decent.
My only thing is this. If NSAC wants to get involved and do advanced testing and dont want to use an outside agency, thats great! I'm just wondering if they are doing this for Canelo vs Angulo fight and Mayweather fight?
If this isnt a standard accross the board for all fights in Vegas then I would say this is definitely fishy...................

usada uses wada accredited labs
wada is not a testing agency
vada also uses wada i believe
WADA is just the name that overseas testing for the world. USADA is under WADA and tests here in the states.
I think Cross speaks to the answer your looking for..I don't really have an issue with the Commision getting involved..I just did not see the problem with going ahead with VADA,since they both used them for their last fights..
i remember kizer giving the A-OK for OST with mayweather-pacquiao, as far as 2009
and arum provoding an olympic organization to do the testing under a boxing commissions supervision i.e nsac
When was this?
What I recall is Bob Arum and Co said something along the lines of "If the Comission say we have to do this testing we will but until then we only do what the Comission says"
And then they declined it.
I thought the Comission said they weren't willing to change anything when Mayweather asked for extra testing for his fights?
Now they're ok with changing it?

Which agency does Mayweather use??
Which agency was that? If not VADA, I thought it was the commission or something like that
WADA..The same agency they used for the Bradley Marquez fight..

Interesting,I still believe they should have used Vada,I mean WADA does not have any real kinda track rec..I'm happy tho, maybe we can see the Commission getting more involveded in other fights as well..Making sure there is strong testing across the sport..

"I called and said, 'Look, we'll go to VADA and have them do it,' and he said no," Arum said. "He said, 'VADA is an outside agency. Let me talk to the commission and we'll do it like we did for the Bradley- Marquez fight .' I told him that was OK as long as it was the full WADA testing, with that stuff, the tests, so we can make sure there is no artificial testosterone.
"I said that's great. I'm a lawyer and I understand that in a case like this, they're the only ones who can regulate. But now we have great testing and I'm out of it and the commission can handle it. That's the way it should be."
I thought they were using VADA, who said they weren't?
There is a thread on this site right now, saying their using the same agency they used for the Marquez fight..It did not say Pac and Bradley would be using VADA as well..So I suspect that VADA will not be involved for this fight..
