I have seen a lot of fights where the guy just rushes to get up too fast takes a stumble and the ref waives it off even if they where ahead, and while not all of them some of those instances seem premature. If those guys would have had extra 5 seconds or something like that to get up, and compose themselves the fight could have very well continued in some cases. Not to mention the ref's who count 1...2...3 skip a few 10 are out there.
Are you guys in love with the 10 count or is it something that could be changed in your mind to give fighters more time to compose themselves, and continue the fight after getting stunned and suffer a flash KD.
It's fine how it is. Just needs to be applied in a consistent manner.
Which it is not always the case and leaves room for error if I was a pro boxer my instinct would be to rush up too considering how little time you have to prove you can still get on your feet which for a lot of guys means looking like a headless chicken.
Another way to give fighters who get their bell rungs more of a chance could be making the standing count LONGER or a separate count from the 10 count. Meaning if you're on your feet in less than 10 seconds you get a few extra seconds to wake up from the quickie naptime. That wouldn't address all the problems I see, but it would be another alternative if making the count longer sounds too radical.
I don't think a count longer than ten is necessary but I like it when the ref makes the fighter walk a step to make sure he is alright after the count. I hate when the ref stops the fight without a count or a chance for the fighter to prove that he is alright.
The count is supposed to be 10 seconds and there is a time keeper to help the referee. If a referee is counting to ten faster than ten seconds then he is not doing his job and needs to go back to referee school until he gets it right. I voted no. The fighters have had 10 seconds to get up for over 100 years and I see no good reason to change it. If a fighter had a long time to get up that would mean fights would continue after a man was badly hurt. If a fighter is hurt so badly he can't stand up in ten seconds it's time to end the fight.
They should always count to 8 (at least) and also have the same count speed. Some count fast and some count slow, it makes no sense
You are correct in every ref is probably different in some way. IMO its probably the ref assessing the downed fighter of course, but him counting at the same time could lose count easy I guess. Haha.
hell no. There would be a lot more deaths.:pat:
Please elaborate on how a more composed fighter who's had a bit more time to regain his senses would be in more danger than one that rushed to get up, and made the count barely, and goes back in there still not knowing where the fk he is. I would argue the opposite.
I think it's fine at 10. Fighters need to learn to compose themselves better instead of immediately jumping up and trying to act like a knockdown never occurred. Just take the full eight count. No matter how fast you get it up, the ref is still going to count to eight.
Also, referees need to to be more consistent with their counting. I randomly watched Marco Antonio Rubio vs. Kofi Jantuah today and Jay Nady was counting fast as hell. Rubio wasn't gonna get up in time anyway but Nady rushed it.
15 seconds would be better. Or a slower 10 count.
Its fine the way it is, the only thing I see happening from a 15 count is more fighters will have time to "get **** together" when in reality are just as hurt if they got up at 5-7 with wobbly legs.. who knows how they could be feeling in the ring.
If Lara would have rushed like a lot of fighters do I think he probably would have dragged his face all over that ring after his kd's but he was composed, but a lot of fighters panic to sh*t, and rush to get up looking worst than what they really are in the process and sometimes fights can end prematurely because of that. Not to mention the refs who count til 9.
I remember watching a Gamboa fight against some undefeated kid marcos ramirez I think, and thinking wtf was that Gamboa took the guy down with a body shot the ref counted 8910 in 1 damn second I felt like I was robbed of more fight, and Im sure I cant be the only one who that has happened to more than once. The kid was aiming to get up at 8 or 9 and the ref just did the skip a few on him .

Would you be in favor of changing it from 3 strikes you're out in baseball to 4 or 5 or another number?
A 10 count more than proves the point that the guy was down. If you're out for 2 seconds in the street your opponent can stomp on you. You're dead.
Just because it has been the rule forever does not mean it's perfect this is boxing not baseball not a street fight. Think of all the great action missed because a fighter rushes to get up and is waived off prematurely . I think we just accept somethings because we are so used to them we never stop and think if they are the best way in the first place.
UK ref Phil Edwards thinks it should be shorter.
That guy don't even make it to three....1 ...2 skip a few 10
is a 15-count (50% longer) you're out ok with you, brah?
Doesn't have to be 50% longer that is just a hypothetical number i threw out there but is the 10 (sometimes shorter) count really the best ?
