Many have said in the past that Adrien Broner was going to simply outbox Marcos Maidana. All the boxing trainers from the "Outlaws" boxing gym unanimously said that Broner would be "too slick, too quick" for Maidana.
One man I know personally said that Josesito Lopez was going to outbox Maidana.
Now a lot of fans are saying Floyd Mayweather is going to thoroughly and easily outbox Maidana.
"It would look exactly like the Guerrero fight." is what they are saying.
My questions for you guys are: How easy is it to outbox Maidana? Is Maidana really that flat footed? Is he really that slow? Are his punches so damn wide you can see them a mile away? Is his style sloppy?
I think Maidana is the opposite of those things.
He is deceivingly fast.
Uses good, subtle footwork.
Moves his head surprisingly well and even rolls his shoulder. You rarely see him square up and stand up straight like his stablemate Brandon Rios.
Throws untelegraphed punches in bunches that aren't that easy to time.
He does not throw one punch at a time like a lot of big punchers do.
So back to my original question. Is it really easy to outbox Maidana like a lot of people say? All posters are welcomed and encouraged to reply.
Maidana grinds Floyd down and likely stops him.....he'll fight Khan instead.
I wouldn't be surprised if this happened.
Just exactly how tough is Mayweather if Maidana manages to neutralize his skills much like Jose Luis Castillo did?
Maidana has much more power than Castillo, I'm pretty sure.
I think I have seen this fight many times, Floyd has fought guys like Maidana, hard hitters, aggressive fighters. People think Maidana has come on since Garcia, and he has to a certain extent, but he is not a brand new fighter as some people think. He will be exposed when he steps up again, and Floyd is a quantum leap to the guys he has been fighting. The facts are Maidana is very hittable, gets tired, and can be hurt. Floyd will stop him...I am almost 100% sure of this. Broner gave Maidana confidence by getting hit and hurt early, Maidana knew he could hit him, plus there was not a whole lot coming back. Floyd is a completely different fighter, he is much better defensively and makes you pay, and if you attack him and give him openings he will open up if it is necessary, he can be active if he has to. His work rate was very good in the cotto fight because it needed to be. I don't even think he'l have that problem against Maidana, he will make Maidana gun shy, as other fighters have already done, second half of the fight he will be blowing, and he does not know how to protect himself when he is tired or hurt, what I mean is he does not know how to fight defensive. I see a beating, which will look similar at times, and fall between a mixture of Gatti and Hatton.
Nice sig. How long did it take you to find the one good shot Broner got on Maidana throughout that beating. :lol1: :lol1:
Was quite a frustrating fight :crying:
Yeah if you are a great boxer, not as easy as it looks
Nice sig. How long did it take you to find the one good shot Broner got on Maidana throughout that beating. :lol1: :lol1:
Not really. It helps to be a southpaw though, as Devon showed.
Maidana has gotten better at chasing down boxers. Robert Garcia gave him a jab. That's a game changer.
This. He also has improved defense and head movement, I was telling people long before the Broner fight and few listened.
Maidana grinds Floyd down and likely stops him.....he'll fight Khan instead.
Let's bet on that... No way Maidana wins, let alone stops Floyd,,,
Let's bet
show him some lateral movements and he gets lost. he's flat footed, he needs to plant his feet to unload his punches. broner has fast hands but he's flat footed too that's why maidana ****ed him up. if you stand your ground against maidana he becomes dangerous because that's where he's good at...in a shootout.
Maidana can be outboxed but you HAVE to be active.
Broner's problem is his inactivity combined with his average defense.
Floyd is so difficult to hit that by the 3rd round fighters hesitate at every move...that's why he gets away with a low output.
Broner's defense is nowhere near that level and he has a similar output.
A guy like Bradley would take Maidana to school.
The main point of that thread though wasn't my PREDICTION per se, but my basis for said prediction. And my comparison to Guerrero-Berto.
In either case, it's not because Guerrero was so great, it was because Berto isn't. The same goes for Broner. Broner isn't great, never will be great. And Floyd already is great with proven abilities.
And I'm not even a Floyd fan. I hope he loses his next fight.
I respect that. I like the type of threads more than the exaggerated opinions I come across. It seems people just want to fish for replies. I like asking technical stuff too but to me your reply to this thread came off a bit exaggerated and down-playing Maidana in 2014.
You would be surprised:

It looks like you picked Broner to win but acknowledged the possibility that Maidana might be able to do something similar to what Robert Guerrero did to Andre Berto.
Not to come off snobbish but... not only did I pick Maidana to win, but I bet US$ 500.00 on him to win straight up and US$ 150.00 to win by KO.
Ever since the Soto Karass fight I knew Maidana was going to be my cash cow for gambling.
Comparing Broner to Floyd is like comparing Tyrell Biggs to Muhammad Ali.
Maidana doesn't win a round against Floyd.
Don't you think that analogy is exaggerated?
So you think Mayweather will cleanly outbox Maidana without getting clipped...
Maidana has skills, he's just not as polishes so he gets a bad rep. Not only does he have skills, Maidana that is, he's an intelligent brawler, he doesn't just go wild missing, he goes wild and hitting.

Well articulated with succinctness.
Maidana is improving all the time, he is clearly not easy to outbox, that said while you may be able to get the better of him early on you had better keep something in the tank because Maidana will just keep coming and you are unlikley to knock him out, he is not unbeatable but his heart is, and he will force you to outbox him or you will get beat the **** up, ths=is is why i want to see him fight floyd, sure Floyd has been in with better, he has been in with harder hitters but that dose not mean this will not be one hell of a tough fight for him, Maidana will be relentless none stop and he will keep coming with bomb after bomb, win or lose this will be entertaining and there will be drama, not as ppl are making out some kind of bore fest.
I agree with you. I think this match up is good. There would very likely be drama indeed. I acknowledge that Mayweather is very skilled, but I will not say that he will just cleanly outbox Maidana without getting nailed by possibly the punch of his life.
Floyd does not fight like Broner. And anyone who think so is an idiot.
We have proven samples of Floyd outboxing solid come-forward fighters, with BETTER skills than Maidana's sloppy style. Maidana almost got outboxed by a shot Eric Morales, almost bringing 'El Terrible' back to live from the Featherweight Golden Era. Floyd is a pure boxer and will not get suckered into exchanges, so just imagine how bad of a Boxing lesson he will put on Maidana.
After three rounds of nothing happening, people will settle into their seats and give up on any back and forth drama, fully knowing that the next 9 remaining rounds will look exactly the same. Maidana WILL NOT get Ko'd or TKO's, that much is clear. Not only because Floyd can't punch but because Maidana is a tough cookie.
The same can be said about Maidana. I've watched the Ortiz-Maidana, Broner-Maidana, Maidana-Lopez, Maidana-Soto Karass fights in HD closely, over and over, in slow motion. At one point in their fights they all tried to get Maidana to exchange with them.
Lopez and Broner even motioned with their gloves a "come here" gesture.
It never happened. Maidana stepped back and fired off his bombs on his own terms.
You make good points but perhaps you are underestimating Chino a bit? Who did you pick in the Broner-Maidana fight?
Cotto doesn't have a right hand. Never has had one. It's because he's really a lefty probably. The reason he was in the fight tho was his jab. Hat ouch single handedly kept him from being completely outclassed. And cotto has an excellent world class jab.
yeah for sure, and I've just never seen it manifest itself like that in a fight. Floyd made it look at least 2x more unnatural than it already is. It's not like it hasn't gotten him this far, it prob has alright power on it too. still, just not the right tool to take advantage.
