To me this word is thrown around here a lot with no sense at all of what it means. For example Cotto. Anyone who thinks he is shot is a damn fool.
I said in another thread that Cotto is at a weight class right now where he gives up a lot of advantages almost every fight. Weight , size , reach , punching power. You name it and its almost certain any JR MW or MW takes Cotto on more than one of those categories.Still , you take Cotto back to 147 and he probably destroys everyone there.
So is Cotto really shot? Hell no , Past prime?? of course , but aren't Manny and Floyd also past their prime. Its not only talent that has kept Floyd at the top for so long. He is a crafty veteran with a very hard style to beat. But Floyd has lost a step. So has Pacquiao , and Martinez , Marquez.
Shot to me is Hatton , Mosley , Roy , Tarver , Mayorga , Taylor , Morales.
Damaged good , Juanma , Victor Ortiz , Cintron.
Past prime?? That's also another one that gets thrown around a lot. How many top veterans are still in their prime. You can argue Floyd is still in his because he is undefeated. But Floyd has lost a step. He is so damn good that its still a very large margin between him and his opponents. Floyd just has a lot of tricks , talent and a difficult style. But he is not in his prime. He keeps himself in damn good shape too. Which has helped him a lot.
And its not that it bothers me when we are trying to predict an upcoming fight. They are all good factors one has to consider. What bothers me is those who use it after the fight to defend their fighters "legacy" (I guess). Because they cant take their fighter losing a fight. And they fall back completely on these terms.
So who do you consider a shot fighter , past prime , damaged goods???
JuanMa was something when he blasted Ponce out he had activity, speed, power, something resembling coordination and skill but it all just rapidly fell apart you watch in the Ponce rematch Ponce is going to flatten him.
What happened to JuanMa is that he was trying to be someone he is not. He was trying to be Tito Trinidad. His style deteriorated to a point where he is now: Completely ineffective, zero coordination, footwork, defense and looks like a total one fight amateur.
Dude, c'mon. JLC was shot to **** when he fought Hatton.
It's often repeated, but where's the evidence?
Castillo lost 1 fight in the 10 prior to Hatton and won 5 of the next 6 after Hatton. There were actually some close rounds in the fight before he got caught with a bodyshot.
Past prime maybe, but shot?
Damn, as a RJJ fan this was funny and sad at the same time.......
Why sad the dude has had one of the best careers in boxing history, but he is way past his prime now I just hope he doesn't get hurt that's all . When he went narcoleptic on Lebedev he got hit hard a few times after being asleep, and even Smogger didn't know wtf was going on or what to do if to jump in or what.... they just need to watch him carefully in case of another narcoleptic attack during his fights and he hopefully will be ok.
What people don't know is that Roy is just narcoleptic now if he can stay awake he has a shot.
Damn, as a RJJ fan this was funny and sad at the same time.......
Juanma Lopez is as shot as it gets. His balance is completely gone, he's just a mess. He needs to retire and not be fighting a banger like Ponce because this aint 2008 son
Shame i was a massive fan and still am but he's finished.
Agree that Cotto isn't shot but that he is on the slide, after a hard career he has built up a whole lot of scar tissue and busts up and swells fairly easily these days, he's up in weight again too, fighting taller stronger guys who soak up more of a punch and also dish out their own.
He still has the experience, guts and skills though and is still a world level fighter
Roys not shot, he just captured the WBU CW title.
I mean wtf.
What people don't know is that Roy is just narcoleptic now if he can stay awake he has a shot.
since you didnt differentiate which makes this a sh1t thread and you got a chip on your shoulder, then im presuming getting a bicycle while you watch basketball didnt happen and you need to go work out to relieve some pent-up frustration.
Lmaoo , this is cute!!!
I guess you did 1/4 of your homework with that.
And my bad for assuming that by providing some names it would help define shot etc etc etc.....
Hey , you got yourself some homework!!
Good for you!!

I disagree with your lists.
Hatton has never been shot. He just bit off more than he could chew for his comeback fight after more than three years of inactivity.
Tarver is not shot, he is just past prime. He hasn't lost since 2008, and had a very decent win over Green 2 years ago.
Mayorga isn't shot either. He is just getting old, and has never been that good to begin with.
Mosley, Roy and Taylor are indeed shot.
Juanma is a shot fighter if I have even seen one.
I agree that Ortiz and Cintron are not shot. They are mental midgets, and their heart isn't into boxing any more.
As for Cotto, of course he is not shot. No one sane would say he is.
You could've just titled the thread "There is a difference between shot, past prime, and damaged goods" and saved yourself from typing a whole essay about your opinion being that Cotto is only past his prime but you still think that he can easily make 147 and destroy everyone in that stacked division because you are his fan and don't figure that he fights in a less stacked 154 division because he can no longer make 147 without suffering any physically detrimental effects.
ok nest time I want to call someone shot I'll shoot you a pm and see if its approved first?
Or you can learn how to analyze it for your self. Unless you are a complete idiot??
Are you a complete idiot????
Fa real. How in the hell is Juanma not shot? He's as done as it gets.
When I think of Juanma I think of someone who isn't an elite fighter. Or wasn't as good as projected. His K.O streak had a LOT of people confused. And the hype and seeing him fail against top competition confuses us as shot. He is a one trick pony with no defense and a cracked chin.
He can be a good journeyman and maybe put up some good showings. That's why I don't consider him shot. Don't put him near the elite. We don't want to give him brain damage now.
