No less than Top Rank Promotions head honcho Bob Arum confirmed the news that Nonito Donaire (32-2-0, 21 knockouts) could get another shot at unified world titles. But bigger than that is the opportunity to become a five-division world champion.
Arum told Phil Jay of World Boxing News that he is indeed working on setting up a fight between Donaire and Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2-0, 26 KOs) of South Africa.
Vetyeka gained worldwide popularity when he dethroned and retired Indonesian boxing legend Chris John in his last fight. The South African has fast hands and also has decent power. He stands taller than Donaire, a rare occurrence for the Filipino puncher.

Im rooting for Nonito hope he comes back strong. Also for all the people bringing up the Darchinyan fight, Ya he was losing but who ever beat Vic in the fashion that Nonito did. He KO'd him twice. I mean Vic ain't no bum, a lot of people thought he also beat Mares, when Mares name was still hot and talks of him fighting Nonito was going on.
Hmmmm....
Donaire has better natural abilities and athleticism. He's clearly got the speed advantage and MAYBE has the power advantage depending on if he carried his power up to featherweight.
Vetyeka is a very decent boxer with a good jab, he's a decent counter puncher and he's ok defensively. Of course you have to consider his level of opposition outside of the Chris John upset which makes me somewhat skeptical.
Based on the Darchinyan fight, that's not an unreasonable position to take. Rigo shook that man badly.
yeah the darchinyan fight showed he hasn't recovered from the rigo loss but it could also be because of the layoff and the surgery he had.
i think this fight with vetyeka will really be the indication of where he's at with his boxing career.
I think this fight is going to be a toss up. Once you neutralize donaire's left hook he does not really have anything to fall back on. He has insane speed but he never utilizes it properly. It's all hayemakers and he does not jab, he does not throw enough combinations. Donaire can be frustrating to watch.
I like what I've seen of vetyeka. I like his skills. I can see him outboxing donaire if donaire doesn't land his power punch.
I'm going with Donaire. Unless it is a good boxer Nonito won't have too many problems with him. Before Rigo Donaire already was showing trouble trying to pin down a boxer or mover
It's not about that. Did Donaire look like the same to you vs a guy he had ALREADY KO'ed?
Donaire was supposed to go in there and blitz this dude. But after Vic landed once he was gunshy.
Sure Donaire won but he was being shutout and capitalized on a mistake. This guy he's facing isn't no 5'4" Vic either.

That's a myth. Watch the fight again. Darch was winning rounds on activity, but Donaire landed most of the meaningful punches of the fight.
If Donaire vs Vetyeka ever gets made and Donaire loses, I promise never to watch boxing again.
not everyone is rigo so I will go for donaire....

I'll take him then. Once Donaire feels one of those hammers he gonna be in there looking like Rico Ramos.

So everyone and their kid brother can beat Donaire? If that's the case, then what's so special about Rigo? Donaire is his only really noteworthy win.
What these Rigo fans don't realize is that by trashing Donaire, they are crapping on their idol's resume.
WTF are you talking about? Check bojangles' post. That's my reasoning for picking Vetyeka.

Yea, it looked like it. He's listed at 5'7" too. I seriously think that eye is damaged.
