TMT lump together all fighters that has an offense oriented style as a brawler with an inevitable short career ahead of them. It doesn't satisfy their palate for "slick" styles that have a lot of back pedaling with a low volume of punches
so i am "TMT" aka black?
i am a robust italian from the northeast. i eat meals bigger than some of the little money teamers.
you guys seem to think golovkin is some wizard defender, and he isn't.
You need to watch those fights again. GGG''s defense is so overlooked, it's crazy!
This guy's on point.
Anyway, Golovkin and his team have always said that Golovkin is a 160 fighter and would only go up/down for marquee fights. Why is that so hard to understand?
I see that both Chavez Jr and Andy Lee are being underrated. Golovkin's a mismatch for anyone @160. Andy Lee is a good fighter. He only has 2 losses and avenged his lost to Vera. I had Chavez Jr winning at the time of the stoppage in his fight versus Lee, but Lee held his own, and although he was getting beat, he was starting the throw and land some powerful shots of his own and I felt the fight was stopped prematurely. With the punches Lee was starting throw, I don't see how anyone could say he was saved by the ref. With so much being thrown his way, he stayed on his feet, dug deep, and fought back. He showed alot of heart in that fight and some of you are just hating.
i've seen those fights several times each. :nono::nono:
golovkin does not have a style that lends itself to a long career, and he does get hit. he's not brandon rios, but he takes punches in victory the way most pressure fighters do.
Yeah I heard that. It'd be a good clash
Exciting while it lasted, but I'd like to see Golovkin move on to opponents in the top end of the MW division after Lee. That is, the likes of Geale, Murray, Martinez etc.
John Tate was up 13 rds to 1 over Mike Weaver. Weaver destroyed him. Andy Lee got destroyed. If semantics is the only way to justify this potential match, so be it.
GGG fighting Andy Lee at this point in their careers is disgraceful. You know this. Lets hope it doesn't get made.
What do you think of GGGs recent opponents, surely Lee is better than almost all of them?
Kirkland is supposedly on the undercard, and is being lined up to fight Golovkin after Lee, assuming both win.
Yeah I heard that. It'd be a good clash
Depends what kind of pressure fighter you are. GGG is a patient pressure fighter who picks his shots and tries to block or dodge what's coming back, he's not like Rios for example. I think to key to lasting long is how much punishment you take, and GGG hasn't taken much so far, partly because he has an OK defense, mainly because his fights don't last very long.

he didn't take a ton of shots against adama or ishida, but rosado, stevens, even proksa hit him with some of the best stuff they had. so did ouma. he has a good chin. those punches that stevens hit him with especially hurt a lot of middleweights.
he takes punches when he comes forward. he's already in his 30's. his style is certainly less inclined for a long career than a boxer. as me moves up in weight, he'll be fighting guys who hit him harder and have longer lasting chins.
mod don't even know when punches are landing :lol1:. boxing styles lend themselves to long careers, and pressure styles usually don't. it's time for that resignation, bro. you've seen too many winters. go shovel some snow.

What I've seen in Golovkin's last couple fights (Stevens, Macklin) is a guy who fights with effective and smart aggression. He's not reckless, he doesn't get hit a lot and when he does it's not cleanly. I could be wrong though; I'll rewatch those fights but my first impression is that Golovkin has a pretty sturdy defense.

Ward has said 'send me an offer' but it's a bit disingenuous because he knows one ain't coming, and anyway realistically do you really think it'd be smart for GGG to fight Ward whilst he's still trying to build his fan-base (even if they think Golovkin has a reasonable chance of beating him).
Wards a $2 mil+ fighter, GGGs a 500k fighter, we know the names that Golovkin has tried and is trying to get in the ring, and none of them are close to Wards level in quality or cost.
Geale was realistically the best MW that was available and we saw what just happened to that. When Maravilas done with Cotto (or vice versa) that may happen. Until then I don't think we're going to see Golovkin fight at 168 (though personally I think taking on a decent SMW would be a good option) - within those limits Lee (who beat up an OK SMW himself in Vera) ain't so bad. At 160 there ain't really all that much better than Lee to be made. The only other option is really to start sniffing around 168.
Your post is very good and makes smart, fair points. Your last sentence is the part that GGG can't escape.
The man is a highly skilled, powerful fighter. If HBO is going to market him the way they have then Andy Lee fights will not cut it. HBO has annointed him the best MW already. Fans are simply asking he live up to this. Andy Lee at this stage would be a marginal choice as a sparring partner
.
Sanchez talks too much - anyway it's been obvious for along time that when they say 154 they're talking about a one-off big money fight rather than a longer term move - in the long run it's gonna be SMW (unless 160 suddenly becomes real exciting).
:lol1: That's very true.
But now he's saying 154 is possible again. Last week it wasn't. Then before that 168 was possible, now it's not.
He's constantly changing on what he's willing to do.

They've made the decision to stay at 160,
So Ward's availability is irrelevant.
Geale, Murray, Sturm's availability is what's making this possible.

He isn't hated. I certainly am not under rating him. He's being held to the level his fans and his network say he is on.
Ward is available but he and his network will not make that fight right now. Against that background, its still a terrible fight. GGG just had his stay busy fight with Adama.
Lets just hope this fight doesn't get made.

IMO, Its the decision to stay at 160 rather than fight anyone from 154 to 168 that is making this fight possible.
If it gets made its because Lee will help fill the theatre and because GGG and HBO think Ward will beat him.

This is the third time I've seen you say this :lol1: Do you not like Lee then? Can't say I'm a massive fan but he strikes me as a fairly decent bloke when interviewed.
It's a side-issue to what we're talking about but I don't think Golovkin v Chavez is as much of a mismatch as some make it out to be, ditto Chavez v Froch and Ward. The guy is hated and I think that's led to a certain level of underrating, he's a unit at the weight and has more skill than given credit for.
You're acting like Golovkin can get an A+ opponent. He can't, he can't even secure a B+ like a Geale or Murray. Against that background, this is a decent bout imo. Will Lee get stopped? possibly/probably, but the same would be predicted for most of the division.

Is it? :lol1: When else did I say it? Not in this thread did I?
And no I don't like him, I dislike him. But that has no bearing on my prediction, Golovkin will kill Lee.
Oh no I'll definitely be watching.
Can't wait to see Lee get splattered. No way this fight goes 6 Rounds, doubt it goes 3. Like I said I wouldn't be at all surprised if it doesn't last a Round.
It is most definitely a mismatch though. I'm not sure why you're trying to defend it to be honest but then again I know you like Golovkin.

Again, semantics. Even if he was competitive-he still lost by KO to a man who is VASTLY inferior to GGG in everyway except his dad is a better boxer than GGG's dad.
If made, Lee has no chance to win. If GGG is as good as you and others say he is, and I think he is, then this fight can't be considered decent.
Andy Lee is getting this fight because he will fill the theatre with loud, drunken fans. No more, no less.

I get that Weebler likes GGG but this is the kind of fight he has been very criticl of when other fighters are involved.

Yeah, he was. Lee had the benefit of it being Chavez Jr. Think GGG is gonna come in unfocused, uninterested and with no gameplan?

The second Golovkin touches him he's in trouble.
He can end it when he wants.
I was certain that Golovkin would end Macklin in 6 or under. I'm about 10 times more positive that Lee will suffer the same fate.
