No they do not! They do so for a paycheck. Plain and simple! Sure u have some boxers who just have a passion for the sport and want to prove themselves in the ring but even those types of fighters wouldn't be doing so if there wasn't some sort of monetary reward. If tomorrow you were to tell every pro boxer "from this point on you will fight only for bragging rights". See how many would be interested in "entertaining" us fans for free.
Not as a form of entertainment not for free at least.People in this society without the money incentive would never risk brain damage for some applause only.Sh*t even the Romans had to use slave even the dumbest roman soldier was like "Waityou saying I could get killed in an arena for free??? Fk that".
Fights do happen every day over stupid sh*t like you say, and that's why world star exists but I doubt any major televised sport for the masses where killing each other was a possibility, and beating the sh*t of each other is the goal would happen without the money incentive.
:pat:
People fight for free and fun all the time. Its just not televised.
explain the amateurs and the olympics then? Pan am games, world games, Cuban amatuers all the small amatuer shows all over the world in all combat sports. Gym smokers??? the list goes on and on
And their main objective is to what? .......That's right!. Make it to the pros so that they can start getting Paid! No boxer just goes to straight pro. They have to start somewhere.
I'll equate it with men and women in the military. They're always hailed as heroes. In reality, most of them can't find regular jobs. They're heroes to me if they're doing it for free.
I made more money before I joined the military. Try again son

Lol In the future where that's a major televised sport this guy is president.

Also a lot of the top ones in that list do have money involved bets etc.
Human beings have been fighting for free and for no reason since the beginning of time.

lmao........
well there are a million safer ways to make money. Plus most never even make any real money. Plus they spend years in amatuer programs for free. I would say they do it for the love of the sport rather then money. Hell I spent years in the gym sparring and fighting and whatnot for free. Actually you pay gym dues for it. Though I did get 30 bucks for my first am fight

everybody has an attitude, a computer and an opinion. Yet few have experience in a pro ring or anywhere in the sport for that matter.

These are human beings man, get real.
You people for the most part who are in the 'entertain me, I paid my money', are sooooo out of touch with the dangers in boxing.
Barry Sanders twists an ankle and sits out the game and his team loses. Michael Jordan jams two fingers and sits out the rest of the game and his team loses. Alex Rodriguez has an ailment and sits out the game and his team loses. Should these athletes risk losing the rest of their careers by continuing on competing with these injuries just because the fans paid their money and want to be entertained? Hell no!!
Where is all the *****ing and moaning from the fans? Hell, none of these examples had anybody near the possibility of death or dementia and everybody is fine with it. Yet a fighter gets disconnected from his senses by a viscious shot and is counted out on his knees and he's committed some kind of crime in your eyes.
First remember that these fighters, while they agreed to fight, are human beings. Your star athletes in other sports sit out for weeks with minor injuries.
'But I'z paid my money, fight to the death if you have to.'
I can't think of one sport that would be worth dying for just so that the pea brained public won't have ****ty things to say. It's not your night so let it go, live to fight another day.
You people are fools............ Rockin':boxing:

They do risk their lives beating the sh*t out of each other, and if we didn't find that entertaining nobody would pay them, and nobody would risk their lives for money or otherwise so ultimately the phrase is true although not as noble as they make it out to be it remains true. Besides not all pro boxers get paid millions of dollars, but they still get hit just as much.
what pisses me off is how firemen are viewed as heroes... i was watching a game show where a contestant came to the stage and said he was a fireman. the host told the audience to give him a round of appluase "peeleft:
as if hes some sort of hero? where i come from, firemen work 2-3 days a week and during their time at "work" they shop for groceries, cook, workout, and play cards at the firehouse. once in a blue they will get a call for a cat stuck in a tree or something ...im sick of that stereotype that they are heroes and deserve praise :pat:
boxers put their lives on the line way more and actually have to WORK :boxing:

Well said brother! :fing02:
On a related note I think most people don't realise just how brutal the sport it as the glitz and glamour of HBO/Showtime doesn't allow one to see it. Seeing a war in the gym is much different from on tv. More respect for fighters is all i'm saying
Exactly. Most people who work crazy hours in offices are at a higher risk of getting cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure etc. Its the name of the game as the pay check justifies this, they have the choice of working manually on a farm for less money if health comes first; boxers can quit as well if they aren't willing to fight to the best of their ability because their health comes first.
You're right and you're wrong. They do it for the money and well being of themselves and their family. On the other hand, whether they want to do it for entertainment or not, they essentially are entertainers. Cameras just so happen to be rolling.
Boxing is a professional sport and a business just like every other professional sport
You say that theyre entertainers yet criticize those who call certain fighters boring. So of their entertainers as u say, shouldn't they be open for criticism if certain viewers don't find them "entertaining"?
