Dawsons not a crap fighter?
By the time he got to Stevenson, yes he was.

You get discredited when some low tier fighter beats you, all you get when you set the record straight is redemption. It is not a win deserving of praise, that mindset effectively awards poor performances. Also Prescott is a contender/journey man, the guy who sparked Adonis is a can.
I disagree, to get back in with someone who knocks you out and to knock him out is creditworthy. Guy who stopped Stevenson also dropped Kovalev and Ward amongst others giving them a hard fight. To be honest, Boone was pretty close to winning the Ward fight, not much in it.
But the total package isn't impressive; it is akin to me giving someone a bag of pennies, sure there'd be a lot in the bag but collectively what's there is worthless. I don't care where Cloud was ranked in the division because any division with talent wouldn't have a guy who was completely schooled in their last fight, and without a win in over a year, in their top 5.
Talent is a subjective assessment. Carlos Molina is in the top 5 at LMW and I've never considered him particularly talented but others may see it differently.
What are you referring to? If it is the boxingscene poll, I thought Rigondeaux collected the most votes.
lol, the ri n g t v fans poll. The NSB poll is kind of notable to us, but not so much the wider boxing world.
i would have given it to bradley if only he'd beaten provodnikov more clearly. i thought provo deserved the nod in their battle.
stevenson's run was pretty inseparable from kovalev's, in my opinion. stevenson got the win with the biggest market value in dawson, but i feel that kovalev's opponents were in reality probably tougher than adonis's. it could go either way though.
garcia had a close but comfortable win over a dangerous man who was supposed to beat him; mayweather moved up in weight to shut down one of the sport's rising stars, who was widely regarded as the main man in the division; and rigondeaux dominated a guy who stands out as one of his generation's preeminent boxers.
so for me it goes:
1. rigondeaux
2. mayweather
3. kovalev
You get credit for beating anyone that knocks you out. Prescott is a "can", but if Khan got back in the ring and beat him he'd get a lot of respect. Regardless, that was just one of his wins.

Cloud was top 5 in the division, former champ who had never been stopped. Moreover, again it was just one of his wins. It's the total package for the year that was impressive.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, from that list I liked Rigo and Bradley but it's not our opinion that counts for this one. The one where our opinion counts, Golovkin was chosen

Guerrero is certainly better then sorry ass Tavoris Cloud. And Bellew is a Euro level fighter. If you're going to give him credit for those wins, as decent/solid wins, you better say Floyd over Gurrero is a decent/solid win.
Guerrero is a hell of a lot better than Cloud or Bellew. He had two wins against Bellew and Cloud type fighters at welterweight going into the Floyd fight.
Its not as black and white as you make it. there are no official rankings that writers abide by. Too bad Floyd is involved, perhaps things would be more balanced. All of the candidates fought ranked opponents and rankings are subjective and looked at as much. Each writer looks at these rankings, resumes, etc and makes a decision. They dont just vote yea or nay based on the ring's, or anyone else's rankings.
Its unfortunate Floyd fans see this debate as knocking FLoyd when its really about acknowledging that other fighters, while lesser known, are doing things worthy of respect.
I'm not suggesting its black and white. I am suggesting that when they are given criteria to vote, they use subjective criteria to a degree.
I don't think all floyd fans see this as knocking him. I surely don't. But when you totally discount the Ghost fight as you did you have to expect posters will interpret that your position on the award as being based in part by how you feel about floyd.
Rightly or wrongly that is the norm here and you as a poster can't expect not to be judged as you sometimes judge.
I agree, other fighters did things last year worthy of respect. Floyd's year was worthy of just as much respect. if floyd had a better year the right thing to do is vote for him. if the year's are even then its likely the fighter whose year was most visble will liley win.

Manner of victory is notable too, he was knocking these guys out, no decisions necessary. Knocked out the lineal champ in round 1, and his mandatory inside 6.

I can respect how you feel but the writers can't base their votes on this. Their credibility would be completely destroyed. At the time floyd defeated Ghost he was a top ranked ww. the subjective rankings can't be discarded for personal objectives.

I agree btw, it was Stevenson's year. He was my pick.
Avenged a KO defeat, became lineal champ, beat a top 5 guy and KO'd his mandatory (also top 10) all inside 9 months.

The Ghost win does absolutely nothing for me. I refuse to acknowledge Ghost as some sort of "top" welterweight. You can use the word "top" all you want, I actually look at the man and who he beat and his chances going into the fight. And any case you make to boost Ghost's standing, someone could do to boost Adonis' opponents. Thats why its best to de-emphasize arbitrary rankings and paper titles.
Stevenson was more active and took control of the division.

I heard it from someone there...but dude its on Ring's site.

Adonis fought 4 times. Floyd twice. So even with your logic that the Ghost win was decent and on par with "sorry ass cloud" and bellew...well it should be clear now.
Props to the Ring for choosing Stevenson. He may not be the unanimous choice, but is certainly a better one than Floyd.
