Golovkin vs Kirkland????????: K2 reserves Madison Square Garden
According to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, K2, Gennady Golovkin's promotional company, has reserved Madison Square Garden (MSG) on April 26 for their middleweight KO artist.

MSG is a pretty big deal so 'GGG' must be fighting someone pretty special.
Could it be James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) ?
Last week, FightSaga hinted HBO was angling for Gennady Golovkin vs James Kirkland on April 26.
If Gennady (28-0, 25 KO) defeats the unheralded Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16KOs) in February, look for Golovkin vs Kirkland to be announced soon thereafter provided Golovkin doesn't suffer an injury.

Promotional obstacles?
Not at all...
As Koncrete Jungle states below, there should be no hiccups between K2 and Kirkland's promoter, 50 Cent, who may be making his debut as a major player on the big stage.
Should this bout come to fruition, what are the odds of Golovkin vs Kirkland going the distance?

How you think the fight goes? Anyone else think it's a dangerous fight for GG?
I don't think it's an 'easy' fight for GGG - despite his propensity for taking a little while to warm up and getting rocked early, Kirklands engine and conditioning are legendary. Had it not been for the Ishida loss he would probably be the most feared MW in the sport right now - and yes, at the time he was very much considered a MW contender.
He is now more thought of as a JMW since his biggest fights, Molina and Angulo were at 154 but for the bulk of his career he's been a MW.
Kirkland is not a fighter that GGG can afford to take lightly, but also not one that should cause him major problems - unless GGG were able to score an early KO (a la Ishida) I can see it going something like the Stevens fight - cept Kirkland doesn't even have Stevens' explosive speed to call on, just seemingly boundless energy.
I see Kirkland being able to land very little on GGG, whilst steadily taking punishment himself, gradually being broken down over 6 or 7 rounds though with a high probability of leaving himself open for a KO punch sometime before that.
Terrible fight. Kirkland has no business in the 160 lbs weight division. Golovkin needs to fight a legit 160 lbs before he get Butenize once he step up to his level of competition.
Kirkland couldn't even beat Ishida.
... "butenized" -- it's paradigmatic already!!!
Where exactly in this thread/article attached is Kirkland rumoured to be the favourite. 15 pages of nothing when the same topic was discussed in NSB last week.
No news has been made since and who in the blue hell is fightsaga. View the article, not one quote, total speculation.
As you say there is nothing - essentially it's just speculation based loosely on Shaw saying 'HBO are considering other options' (which could mean anything).
Since then though Geale has dropped hints like he may have a title fight lined up after Wood, (presumably either Sturm or GGG) so really it's impossible to say.
Fuck HBO if they make this fight. Kirkland is a 154 pounder and they should build him up. IMO he KOs Andrade, Trout, Lara, Martirosyan, Cotto and any other 154 pounder.
HBO should just let Geale who is a 160 pounder fight Golovkin or persuade Strum
to come to America for a unification.
As much as I think highly of Kirkland, hes gonna get KTFO by GGG.

Garth Woods knocked out Australian cashcow Mundine. He was in the Austrlian Contender reality tv show and won. He's known.
Murray turned down a $250k hometown title fight for a reason. Even before Garth Wood gave the specific number, Shawn Brown, a credible writer (Ring, ESPN, Boxingscene), alluded it would be a big payday.

Geale Wood is booked for a 4k capacity hall, It's really hard to see a non title fight vs a near bum having a combined purse higher than any of GGG or Quillin's SHO/HBO fights. Murray Wood was called off due to business reasons, 800k of them lol
Garth Wood is a bum man, it doesn't add up to 800k anywhere much less in a small market like that. So how much did Geale make for Albert, 200k max? This time around it's not even a title defense, with clubfighter opponent

Some of Murray’s fans have reacted angrily to the proposed bout on Twitter but one source told LF: “The offer for Murray v Wood was too good for Martin to turn down. It’s great money for a keep busy fight. It’s a great pay day, an easy fight and Golovkin is still likely in early 2014.”

You know that how? What possible motivation does Woods have to lie about that?
I even recall Geale had a 5k sold out crowd against a nobody in Eromosele Albert. And Garth Wood is probably the 4th most well known boxer in Australia.
Completely different people involved in that in the first Mundine-Mosley mess. And even then, the money came through in the second try.

Yeah I do, there's no money in Geale Wood.

And I'm super skeptical about that 800k, always sketchiness around Aussie purses, especially when ridiculous like that.

There was a $800K on the table for Murray-Woods. You'd think there would be less for the all Australian Geale-Woods?
