I just finished watching the Bute-Pascal fight for the first time (Sky Sports Broadcast) and I scored it for Pascal 8 rounds to 3 with 1 round even.
I gave Bute rounds 3, 11 and 12.
I gave Pascal rounds 2,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10
I scored round 1 even.
And I should mention that rounds 3 and 11 were close, actually round 3 was basically totally even but I still gave both of them to Bute.
So - here is Jim Watt's scorecard: http://s22.postimg.org/duxm1ulq9/Bute_Pascal_Scorecard.jpg
I have no idea what fight they were watching. Bute did nothing the whole fight. Pascal was the only one throwing real punches and real combos and he also landed quite a few of those punches. Was Pascal super active? No. But he landed basically all punches and especially all significant punches the whole fight. Bute was not throwing anything and landing next to nothing.
So - do some people really think Bute won this fight? I got the feeling that the british commentators scored for Bute to make Froch's win over Bute look better. Let's not forget - that was the win which catapulted Froch into the hall of fame (in the future I mean). - Froch was the underdog and Bute was regarded as a pretty great fighter. Now if Pascal - who lost to Froch in the past - beats Bute, then Bute all of a sudden looks very different according to a lot of people.
Honestly, I cannot quite understand how anyone thinks Bute came even close to winning this fight.
To be honest I can understand someone scoring the bout to Bute. I felt that Pascal won, but people need to remember that they're human beings. If you're not enthusiastic about a fight and not much happens in the round, you're not going to put a lot of consideration into who you pick. It's understandable because they're not professional judges.
He was giving Bute rounds just because Pascal wasnt taking advantage after landing his punches...even though Bute was doing nothing.
Anyone who couldnt see Pascal toying eith Bute and acting up to stage a counter rally everytime Bute had "success", does not understand boxing at all
Former cruiserweight champion Glen Mccrory said after that he could make a case for Bute winning due to the large inactivity from Pascal who did land better punches but also missed a hell of a lot in his bursts ,former light heavyweight bum Tony bellew also couldn't come up with a case for Pascal winning either, for 2:40 of just about every round Bute had ring generalship throwing or not throwing he was manovering the other man for most parts of the round ,granted Pascal had some success at 2 mins 50 seconds into most round with a 10-15 punch combination with about 3-5 punches landing out of that but its sometimes just not enough and it spoils the fight to try and steal like that, same tactics he used against Dawson but to ill effect
Not accurate at all. Pascal would fight in spots, but he would do it 3-4 times a round not just at the end. And standing in the center of the ring bouncing up and down is not ring general ship, and for a lot of the rounds Pascal's movement and feints were determining where the fight was taking place not Bute.
So to give Bute credit for ring generalship, let alone enough to win rounds is laughable.
Although Bute wasn't doing anything but "****in' 'ell, me confidence is shot to ****, I'll just tap him and hope I don't get KTFO again", Pascal's amazing plan of "I'll throw ten punches a round, mon ami, eh?" wasn't really setting the world alight either.
I actually thought Bute nicked it on close (ie nothing happened at all) rounds. No, honestly.
Bute might be from Europe, but it's Romania. Not Britain. Bias limey Green teef. :)
Tyson Fury looks like he's from Gypsarest, but he isn't. HE is a brit.

He gets a pass because:
A) He's old
B) He's Jim Watt.
Trying to understand what's going on in his mind at anyone given time is half the fun of Sky broadcasts.
Subjectivity is a lame excuse. There are very clear ways to score a fight, and this man apparently doesn't know them.
Having it closer is one thing, but Watt had Bute winning it. That's amazing.
Yeah, Bute winning it is going a bit far but some of those rounds were damn difficult to score, Pascal would be inactive for almost 90% of the round with Bute pawing out with a jab and manouvering Pascal, then Pascal would have a burst of punches....could have been scored of Bute I guessed.
Like I said, I personally wouldn't, 116-112 for Pascal was spot on. But I can maybe, just maybe, see where Watt is coming from.
I've spoken to a couple mates who watched the fight and both of them had it way closer than me.

Lol come on, he's not racist, incompetent maybe but not racist.
TBH this just goes to show the subjectiveness of a sport such as boxing. I've spoken to a couple mates who watched the fight and both of them had it way closer than me.

I honestly think it's a fireable offense. No bullsh*t. How can you commentate on the sport professionally when you score a fight that ineptly? My 10 year old nephew would score the fight better than this dude. Hell CJ f**king Ross would score the fight better than this (well maybe anyway).
Bute damn near landed more punches in the 12th than he did in the other 11 rounds combined.
I've just finished watching this and was going to make a thread...
Jim Watt always favours the white guy. Forget the scorecard, his commentary throughout was horribly biased. I was watching a different fight to Watt. It's time Sky got rid of him and made more use of the better guys they have.

This is probably about right.
I didn't watch Burns vs Gonzalez did he at least get that one right?

It was a fight between two 'fancy Dans' who didn't 'fancy the job.'
Based on his own very specific criteria Watt didn't have a prayer of being able to score that fight.
