There's news coming out that Darren Barker is retiring.
He was quoted last week saying he was still undecided.
I know it was a complicating factor in Sturm, Murray, Geale, GGG match-ups and such.
Very little detail out there at the moment but you can only imagine he's had another medical assessment, needs surgery and decided to call it a day.

where did you get that from what i posted?
must i find some excuse every brit who gets a "world level" opponent and gets stopped?
A dislocated hip is not really an "excuse" though, is it? It is a crippling injury that doesn't allow you to move much in a boxing ring. The fight was competitive before the injury.
Dislocated hip after the first KD had no bearing?

Lol...well it's true. He did quit against Martinez and the guy was actually doing damage to Martinez. The worst part is he was undefeated at the time.
No it's just your uneducated opinion. Saying something is true doesn't make it so. You sir are a vegetable.
Lol...pac had a busted eardrum when he beat down Cotto.
I have had a perforated eardrum, depending on the severity, he may had had no balance at all. When I got one from a bad infection, it felt like is was spinning in a clothes dryer at times, and it lasted for 3 weeks.
Good luck to him :ANYWORD:
I've always liked Barker..modest, and comes across as a decent fella. A good fighter but i think the injury problems through-out his career stopped us from seeing the best of him.
He was all but ready to pack it all in when his brother died..but instead used his memory to drive for a World title dream. When he achieved that i think he was mentally ready to call it a day.
Won a World title in a memorable fight..well done to him.
Real classy! What a ****ty thing to say. If you don't care about his retirement why comment at all. Your boxing knowledge is limited at best and your attitude sucks.

The man dislocated his hip, it wasn't as if he was even that hurt (to the head) when it was stopped. Enough with the hyperbole.
hyperbole?
he was stopped in two, and the f#ck was definitely beaten out of him.
Barker was always so talented, gifted with speed and a good boxing brain and a very good chin. Sadly his body, mainly his hips, could never hold up to all the wear and tear.
Like I said before the Sturm fight, if Barker's body holds up, he will win, sadly it didn't and I think it is the perfect time to retire. If he has kept his finances well, he is quite set, he can go into training or commentating. I wish him all the luck in the world, great guy (met him a couple times).
Now the MW picture looks a bit more settled, Sturm v Geale can be set up then Sturm can avenge Soliman but I really don't want the cheat to get a rematch.
Sturm/Geale can fight either Macklin or Murray, both big fights and then the winner of that little tourney can take on GGG, while GGG should be campaigning for better names.
I actually hope GGG V Murray happens first.
another thing that shocked me was how well barker did against martinez. he had a great gameplan. if he had a better punch and chin he would have won that fight.
when a 34 year old felix sturm knocks you out in two, it is time to retire. sturm beat the f#ck out of poor dazzling darren. i was not expecting it.

Who cares? He pulled a victor Ortiz against Martinez. I mean how do you get knocked out by a punch that you block. Even Emmanuel steward was confused.

if he were amiercan, i'd say that he'd be back. he's a brit, though, and those guys have much more discipline when it comes to turning down six figure paydays. i think they're better about not going broke :lol1:
he made a lot of money and accomplished a good deal for a guy with relatively little talent.
i wish him the best.
