if he's not on ppv with cotto or martinez, canelo will be given opponents who mesh well with him stylistically. angulo lost to lara and they gave him the fight.
it's hard to guage alvarez' popularity post mayweather, and GBP's longterm outlook for him, but i'd be absolutely shocked if GBP values him so little that they allow him to fight lara. molina may get a shot at canelo without even rematching lara.
judges would need nuts the size of grapefruits to rob lara against canelo. alvarez won't win a round. lara is the style nightmare that we all thought trout would be lara actually uses the ring, and is an accurate puncher who can land the left hand on the way out. he also has enough power to impress judges.
I'd lean towards Canelo to win that. Lara doesn't get under punches, rather than get under Molina or Angulo's punches and move into punching angle, he allowed those two to beat on him. He also lowers his right hand when he backs out (Watch for that) and he doesn't mix up his attack or go to the body as much as he should. Lara's defense is mainly his feet, he doesn't block well and I truly believe Canelo will expose all that. After the Mayweather fight, I expect Canelo to be more of an aggressor now but we'll see.
Mayweather isn't a 154, I don't see him ever going back up, so when determining the best at 154 I sort of leave him out of it. Canelo called for Trout even though you can clearly see Oscar didn't like his chances but it was him who pushed for it, and he more than likely will do the same granted Lara keeps winning.
I know it's difficult for some to see that because we're in an era where it's fashionable to question ones willingness to challenge himself but it's gonna happen. I see it more as a matter of when, GB won't stand in Canelo's way. Only reason Canelo doesn't fight him is if more lucrative fights present themselves, Cotto or Martinez.
This fight determines the best at 154, can't see it any other way.

No mention of Lara vs Molina from fat dan.
Canelo-Angulo undercard in works looks terrific: Santa Cruz-Mijares, Omar Figueroa-Ricardo Alvarez, Nihito Arakawa-Jorge Linares. #boxing— Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) January 9, 2014
Fat dan just gets fed (excuse the pun :))info by the promoters who lie to him anyway so they can gauge public opinion on certain fights.

Omar and Arakawa having different bouts. Interesting. Seems like the winner of those two fights will face off.
ok, let's say they rematch. then what? we have to look at this thing in terms of it's context in a 2014 154 lb division. i like the word "stressful" :lol1:
the winner isn't fighting mayweather either way. canelo's people won't put him in there with lara, certainly not because of a win over molina.
if molina wins he may get a canelo fight, so i guess that there is a little value in that. the problem with molina canelo would be the judges.
these two are the B side. they're going to fight other people as opponents, and the rematch will not be missed.
now, if they do more than beat ishe smith and austin trout, and in 2015 they're still at or around the top three contenders, then we can maybe think about this awful rematch.

I'd like to reach a point where I'm comfortable saying who's the best at 154, especially in the most stressful division in boxing, 154. From Lara-Paul Williams, to Lara-Molina, to Kirkland-Molina, to Vanes-Lara...lets be real now :lol1:
As awful as it'll be, no other fight will determine this other than this rematch.

England, I'm in agreement with you, especially Molina's style that I do question whether it should be classified as boxing, it's extremely excessive and while Hopkins, Ward and Abril catch a lot of slack on here, they don't lead with clinches. Neither do they hold on to their opponent whilst walking them to a different corner of the ring. That said, he arguably beat Lara, the consensus is that he should have gotten the victory, it needs to happen.
molina's last fight was a win over ishe smith, who is one of the worst "world champions" of all time. lara beat a fighter coming off of a loss. i'm not sure all of you guys realize just what it means for a once undefeated fighter to come off of a loss against a cuban southpaw. prior to that he was dropped twice and spent some time getting beat up by alfredo angulo. before that he was underwhelming against martyrosian and freddie hernandez.
you're acting like they're on runs that necessitate a fight to determine who fights floyd mayweather, and they aren't.
carlos molina hasn't done enough to demand anything. his style can hardly be called boxing.
lara is a good boxer, but he's comically overrated after the trout fight. trout's popularly in particular is a backlash against alvarez.
Molina and Lara have each other, but besides that fight:
Molina beat Cintron when it still mattered, was screwed against Kirkland, and beat Smith.
Lara beat Williams, got screwed against Vanes, beat Angulo, and beat Trout.
That's better than anyone else at 154 besides Mayweather, if you count him. Who else in the division compares to them? The ginger with his one questionable win against someone that matters? It's horribly unfair to talk these two down and then talk up anyone else at 154, because they are the only ones fighting anyone in the division, and doing well for themselves in the process.
Outside Mayweather, Lara and Molina have the best resumes at junior middleweight. They should be ranked 1 and 2 right now. Winner without a doubt should be the top ranked fighter at 154.

the who's who of the division can be established without this rematch. it would be something different if it weren't a rematch of an awful fight. it's certainly not immediately necessitated off of an underwhelming W over ishe smith, and a UD over austin trout.

I didn't enjoy it either, I had Molina winning but if we're ever gonna establish the who's who of the division, then it's got to happen.

it is erislandy lara and carlos molina. you're seriously inflating their value as fighters. molina is coming off of a win over ishe smith for f#cks sake. prior to that he beat corey spinks and some guy named frias, both on FNF.
at the very least, it doesn't necessitate a spot on TV. you can't expect these networks to put on rematches of such awful fights, that will again be absolutely awful fights.

I meant to say, looks like they have no intentions of making Lara-Canelo. Or else they would put it on the undercard?

I'm sure Golden Boy is hoping Molina gets the nod so they can bury Lara and forget about him.

It's an important fight for the division, it has to happen.
That, plus the controversy that ensued. It was a weak fight, but I'd like to see this thing put to rest forever.

You're going around saying their first fight was a robbery. There was no fkin robbery in that fight. Not every close fight is a robbery. Abril vs Rios = a robbery. Cloud vs Campillo = robbery. Lara vs Williams = robbery. Get it?

Have you seen the fight... molina clearly won,,, it was close like jmm-bradley but molina deserved the nod,,,
Was it a huge robbery, no, but i never claimed it was,,
the first fight was one of the worst fights i've ever seen. why the f#ck would i want to watch it again?
