If ppv numbers weren't disclosed, would you still watch?
If you look back in time, fighter salaries and their finances were insignificant to any fan. Somewhere along the line, it somehow became important to know how much they make and what they choose to do with their earnings. Seems weird, but perhaps boxing isn't mainstream anymore because instead of worrying about the in ring action, you're more concerned about the bank accounts.
What does them making or not making money have to do with someone tuning in to watch? How or why would it make a difference to someone who just enjoys watching good boxing match ups?
I have zero interest in PPV numbers.
Neither do I man, I couldn't care less at all. I understand the business side of it and how it can be a part of the fight making process with promoters and networks but for (certain) fans to argue back and forth about who's fights sell the most and who makes the most money is ridiculous and a waste of time...
If boxers didnt make any money of course i would watch, just as i would watch if they made money like football, baseball, basketballs players or mma fighters
I just looked through TS's history of threads started...tons of threads about PPV numbers/Manny is the bigger draw/Why can't Floyd fill a stadium/etc...
I guess he only finds it taboo talk about PPV numbers and money now that Manny's are sh*t and he's broke.
Hahaha. And this question is stupid, nobody watched because of how much money they make. But I suspect you're on to something dead like me. Most of ops threads have to do with Floyd
Stated many times i dont care how much a fighter makes or how much a fight makes cause at the end of day my account will remian the same. They can fight in a Denny's for free Grand Slams and ill watch
I'd still watch regardless if the fighters were paid 10 million or 10 bucks if it's the best fighting the best then I'll watch for me it's the competition
I just think its the world we live in especially in America finances are brought up, discussed and take priority over almost every other aspect of sports & life. Unfortunatly we live in a money hungry society where someone's income is considered news
Reading how much boxers make is no different then reading how much actors make for their movies how much the movie grosses . Almost all athletes, musicians & entertainers have their annual salary disclosed for public discussion. websites are devoted to the career earnings of athletes and people's net worth
Great. Now answer the original question, would you watch if boxers did not get paid?

I'd watch .. Why not? If two guys were fighting in the street I'd watch a lil..
But the thing is, you really dont care about the finances. Only when it suits your agenda.

Kinda sounds like your alts; they only seem to pop up when it suits their agenda...its getting old.
Money is what drives boxing, you'd be a fool to think otherwise. People pay to watch PPV's and boxers don't fight for free so of course the financial aspects come into conversations in forums, barbershops, bars...etc. To act like this is something is new, is just laughable.
So, as much as you want to watch Pacquiao vs Guerrero, live on PPV, and pay $70 for the love of the sport; at the end of the day, the financial failure or success plays a role in the fighters future...whether you like it or not, that becomes a topic of conversation.

You should do the classic bump on one or three of them

Oh, so he's just upset that floyd has been successful and manny is experiencing the problems he said floyd would have. ok.

i watch boxing for the crazy reason that i like boxing.
if i want numbers i'll read the financial times or revisit some statistics textbooks.
bizarre question but unfortunately indicative of the state of professional sport nowadays.
how can people not mentally separate the boxing and the money, or at least get them in the right order?
So are Floyd and Manny, at a much higher magnitude.
I would disagree. Floyd and Manny earned their positions based on in ring performance. Canelo got heir based on his popularity.
Manny and floyd had to go through much more before they got ppv fights. Canelo went through significantly less.
Floyd and Manny were each recognized as upper echelon fighters before they hit it big. Canelo's stature was manufactured by his promoter owning ring magazine.
In the ppv era these variables are indicative of a fighters stature to a degree, but they shouldn't be the sole variable.
Whats funny is the TS nme used to be coldcashcanelo-he changed it after he lost to floyd. Canelo is the embodiment of the problem you say the TS is exspressing.
So are Floyd and Manny, at a much higher magnitude.
TS is what you call a "pact#rd" by the look of things.
they're usually young, little, etc. if he hasn't cut down on his posting since manny's decline, it is on the horizon. when manny retires, there will be an exodus of his kind.
when floyd slows and loses, or retires, there will be an exodus of his kind as well.
the world, not only boxingscene, will be a better place when those types stop using the internet.
SO true.
why doesn't he just come out and post what he really wants to and then we can discuss.
oh so its in jest. how would any of us know why you picked that name?
why does it bother you that other posters talk about money/finances? if you don't like the discussion don't participate.

i am working as a trainer, manager, and corner person -
it's not about money as i don't give a rats ass about ever
collecting a dime. Sometimes a fighter has other reasons
for wanting to be in the ring other than simply monetary.
My focus is Never about how much some fighter or promoter
etc. is making for a fight. I watch fights no matter what the
monetary or political drama is - that has nothing to do with
a boxers worth when it comes to how well they box. Can't
understand why people are so caught up on the money aspect.
Unless they are captivated by how some boxers seem to live
the high life for a time but usually that doesn't last as their
egos out run the money; and the high life falls away. I want
to see my boxer stay grounded and in reality. So yes i would
continue to watch boxing as the money aspect is not the end
all or be all in the sport.
you're missing the point.
when you're talking about big time TV fights, you need to be able to understand how money effects boxing to know how it works.
there's more to being a fan to some people than simply enjoying fights. it's fine if you don't care about money, but i do. i want to know more about boxing. to do that, i concern myself with its finances. boxing is financially motivated.
But the thing is, you really dont care about the finances. Only when it suits your agenda.

Finances is not going to be as big a factor when discussing certain fights/fighters as it will be with others. If posters choose to discuss it-so what? Again, why does it bother you.
You are complaing about posters talking/discussing finances in this thread and you have asked several financial related questions.
You seem to have another agenda and are back dooring your way to it?
