Obviously at 154, who do you all have winning this one. I've heard people say that Winky would have been too big and too strong for Floyd and I've heard other people say that Floyd would just be too fast and too slick for Wright.
What do you think ?
Winky is too tall, too strong, too good a defender, and with too good a jab for Floyd to do anything with him; Floyd can fight at JMW but he has to be selective
Another caveat. The Winky that fought Vargas would be the favorite to beat Floyd. Physically, so fast, strong and technical at 154.
Would be like Cotto, but a helluva a lot better. I guess I shouldn't have used the Shane fight. Winky looked way slower in that fight compared to his fight with Vargas.
Winky's size would take its toll. This is a guy who went 12 rounds with Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor and Felix Trinidad. What's little Floyd going to do to him? He doesn't have to play defense here. He can walk through Floyd's shots and fire at a much higher volume because he has nothing to fear. If Mosley stunned Floyd and Cotto gave him a bloody nose, you can be sure Winky's punches would inflict some serious damage and keep Floyd in his shell. A more aggressive Winky with a higher work rate emerges and wins on points.
Wright KO1 first tenth of the first second of the fight
Good question. Oscar did well against Floyd with the jab. All winky used was the jab. On fight night winky would out weigh Floyd by 20 pounds and cruise his way to an unanimous decision
Winky's punch variety and lack of power would not bode well for him against a speedy backfoot technician (that's the role I think Floyd would take), especially one with great defense.
Winky is a big technician, he has a great defense of his own and a very good jab, but he doesn't push the tempo enough to beat someone like Floyd. Even while winning comfortably he is content to cruise (Trinidad). Mayweather might cruise sometimes in the late rounds, but even then he is constantly adapting and trying out new things. He's always doing 'something', usually a lot of feinting and trap setting in the late goings.
We've seen Floyd switch up the tempo time and time again in a close fight. For once, it may even come down to Floyd being the more active fighter. That's not to say many punches will be landed though. They may break the record for least punches landed in this one.
Floyd picks you apart from the shell & Winky breaks you down behind his guard.
This would be one of the most casually unappealing fights of all-time. Honestly can't say who wins for sure.
