This boxing analyst (one of the most respected in Argentina) says today that Chino needs a break after his hard training camp for the Broner fight and it would be wiser not to fight Floyd next .
The expert points that the training camp was "more harmful" for Maidana body that the fight itself. He adds many people think Chino shouldn't go through such a hard preparation again in the short run.
From the Maidana point of view, the writer says, there is no need for an immediate Floyd fight to consolidate his status after his recent success.
A Floyd fight would mean big money and sporting glory. but it will be smarter for Chino to take an adequate rest and postpone negotiations for the 3rd May card, the article concludes.
If this is true, and he doesn't want Floyd next, this is the second fighter that voluntarily removed himself from a fight with Floyd. First Danny Garcia, now Marcos Maidana. I guess these fighters are allergic to getting paid.
Something new. Chino has been interviewed by a newspaper from the province of Santa Fe. The complete interview will be tomorrow in the press edition, but the paper has published a bit part on the web in advance.
"Mayweather is not invincible", Chino says. "You have to put a lot of pressure on him, in a similar way I did on Broner, and a bit more too. You don't have to respect him. And you have to be well trained".
Well, this somehow seems to "compensate" my previous post. I agree that Khan is a crappy fight and I would like Chino in a ring with Floyd. At the same time, I don't want to see him there not ready for a win. I'm going on vacation now so I see you all in some days...
It wouldn't surprised me if Maidana loses next year, especially with Thurman as his mandatory, and the Floyd fight would disappear. He should take it while he can.
Thurman was shocked by Chaves and Soto Karass. He might KO Chino and anybody else, but more likely Chino puts him to sleep.
He's not a moron. This article also suggests another thing: they are not thinking in a big payday for a good retirement. This would be a "loser" point of view. They are thinking in something much bigger, even in seriously challenging Floyd if the fight takes place in the future.
thats how these fighters should be thinking but you got these ****ing clowns that want to cash out after one fight... some of these cats are just cowards
sally had a new video of maidana every day last year, marcos never left the gym. ariza's regimen probably busted him up the most, maidana doesn't seem like the athletic type.
The article has been published in an Argentine newspaper, for Argentine readers, and it has been written by someone who clearly has off the record information. I don't see any hidden operation here.
writers do that all the time. that's one of the ways that american writers make their money in the advent of the internet, and the waning popularity of newspapers. i'm most directly familiar with writers being used as mouthpieces for american promotors, but it's surely not out of the question that this argentine writer is doing this to gain the favor of maidana's people and help them get the fight.

keith thurman would move circles around maidana, and probably end the fight with a knockout.
eventually maidana is going to press on the pedal, and he won't have anything left in the tank. he's been in hard fights in victory and defeat for years now.
they'll take the fight if it's offered. i don't put any stock into what this writer says in terms of its effect on team chino taking the fight.

agree. if you're chino maidana, you take the fight. you are not going to win anyway.
this might just be some posture to get goldenboy to make the fight, thinking that they've got some extra advantage from chino's "hard training camp"
who knows.

If Broner is the real deal, or even a slight resemblance, getting humbled by Maidana was the best thing to happen to him. Not that Haymon wanted him to lose, but it will still work out for him.
Maybe. But more than a humbling he took a beating no one knows what lasting effects could have.
As for the paranoid hypothesis, I don't know if they are OK or not. What I can say is that there were several signs that Chino really suffered such a hard training camp.
Maidana May not get this type of opportunity again if he does get the fight

I thought the same on the way home but then I thought... maybe I'm just being paranoid.

You think, why would anyone not want that payday? They lose, so what? It's not like losing to Floyd Mayweather ruins fighters. Not most fighters, anyway. And you get exposure and money you'll find nowhere else.
We know Golden Boy has wanted Mayweather/Khan for 2 years, maybe they've decided to push it through no matter what. It is a paranoid viewpoint, but boxing deserves such skepticism.
Funny how all these other options from Golden Boy are suddenly so hesitant for a Mayweather fight. The conspiratorial side of me would say Golden Boy is telling them to go away so Khan gets the fight.

Right, but that was not the best for Broner, which is the point we are discussing.

Somebody had to lose that might have been the best thing to happen to Broner if he's smart.
