I actually think Khan won that amateur fight, it was against Craig Watson I believe... But with headgear I think he would still be visibly hurt whenever he got tagged good. Headgear in my opinion doesn't offer that much protection and I am even pretty sure that the AIBA a while back confirmed that some international male amateur bouts would be fought without it.

head gear actually doesnt do that much protection its the gloves that do the damage if they are light! 8-10 oz
