First off, I know David Haye gets his fair share of stick on these forums. Some well deserved like his cherry picking of Audley Harrison, his ducking of the K bros in the late 00's and his excuse for losing to Wladimir Klitschko in 2011 - Even though he said he would have probably lost anyway. Some undeserved like his injuries leading up to the Fury fight that never took place.
I think we can all agree that when David Haye was on his game, which in fairness, we didn't see much of late in his heavyweight career, he was a pretty entertaining and devastating fighter. We saw this in his fights against Chisora, against Enzo Mac, Mormeck and to some extent Monte Barrett.
Let's put the criticism to the side for a moment. Because when he was on form, he was quick, moved from side to side and threw punches with bad intentions from both hands.
When I watched Keith Thurman against Jesus Soto-Karass I noticed the similarity between that performance and Haye's performance vs Chisora. For Thurman, I think he moved a lot more than he usually does, he looked to be concentrating throughout the whole fight and used his skills a lot more than he did previously, against Chaves for once.
Other than that, they share the same hairstyle.
Did anyone else notice this similarity?
Yeah, but imo they are the level just before top level. Maybe not Vargas, but Arbegu and Guerrero. I'm not sure Keith Thurman is ready for a Porter or Alexander yet. Maybe he is, but I think he needs one or two more wins before he steps up to that level.
You rate Alexander that highly? He's a decent WW but I don't think he matches up well against Thurman. Porter is a tougher fight, but even if he's not ready for Showtime Shawn he'll learn from it. Like he says himself, he's not afraid to let the '0' go. Abregu and Guerrero are also good fights, I think Thurman beats Robert but RG wasn't interested in the bout.
Abregu is Top Rank, Guerrero ducked him last Autumn and Vargas is not on that level imo, having struggled with and was dropped by Omotoso. Thurman needs bigger names than Vargas.
I like Thurman against the Ortiz-Collazo winner, Porter is a good fight too. Even Devon Alexander if he's looking for a route back.

I'll wait before I assess thurman's ability on the world scene, before he's taken on someone truly in the top 10. Maybe a Kell Brook fight after Brook fights Porter, win or lose? Would certainly be a good fight.
I'm sure though that Brook will go down the Khan route should he win a belt. Thurman should fight Abregu, Guerrero or Jessie Vargas next imo.

Yet, out of the three it was Zaveck who went the distance. I agree though, Chaves was his biggest test but he only gets credit for Karass from most people because that's the "name" they're familiar with.
It's all academic anyway imo, I believe it won't be long before he adds a few more big names to his record. Personally I think he should really fight 3 times a year to build his profile, fans get addicted to the KOs.
Yeah, but I think Chaves caused him more problems as well before the stoppage. It was a tricky fight for him. I'm not really giving credit for Soto Karass, though he came off a good win. He's always been a stiff and could never truly win at world level. He does have a good punch, but his defense is non-existent and he's slow on his feet. Basically tailor made for someone like Thurman.

I think probably Chaves was the biggest test, he's better than Zaveck. but soto-karass was his best fight against a 'top' opponent. He took a few blows early on and showed his heart and chin to overcome the early scare. I really liked what I saw actually.

The point of my saying was to illustrate that while everyone's talking about Karass being Thurman's best or only good win, I don't believe it is. To my mind Chaves and Zaveck are equally good wins, if not better.

Is knocking soto-karass a great feat? He's got power for sure. But until he wins at something close to world level I won't rate him.

I don't recognize Haye as a force in boxing. He is a limited talent whose fought no one and is in a "small circle" of relevance!!
I don't have "anger" towards anyone I don't know, I'm trying to educate people who think this guys is a talent. I question his heart and his motives for being a fighter.
He simply isn't a Topic for discussion. Thats my point so carry on talking about a nobody!
I don't think Thurman is the latest thing since sliced bread but he comes to win and with that said he has NOTHING in common with the british actor your talking about!! Why insult this young fighter Thurman!
lacewhatup; if you want to "have to say" anything don't get personal on the forums just go to the PM department. I never mentioned you or commented on your agenda so relax. Don't concern yourself about me, just like Thurman is to Haye you & I have nothing in common! Ray
Where did I get personal? I've seen you refer to him as a fraud on multiple occasions, and if you look at the OP you'll see that I was specifically talking about his performance in the ring.
Furthermore, I think it's unfair to say that a guy who's 26-2 (24KO) isn't coming to win. He's picked up 4 world titles in two weight classes. I think most people would be happy with that.
I understand you don't like him, but this thread is just a comparison between the two fighters styles.

Haye hasn't faced the same level of opposition. He fought Wlad and didn't do anything.
Yeah out of the two, David Haye faced inferior competition.....
No simularity at all, one is a young fighter who comes to the ring to win(Thurman)
The other comes to the ring for a pay day and wishes he was some where else when the bell rings!
I don't understand the few fans who actually think that Haye is relevant in the sport. Heres a guy that shows he has no interest in being a fighter yet his few fans think he's great!! The excuss that he's a cruiser in the wrong division gets old. If he had the talent that his fans think he has then he could defeat the "bigger" guys! He doesn't have what ALL fighters need regardless of their talent level and thats Ballz for the Sport! The guys a whimp!
Get over it!
Get over yourself Ray. This is a discussion about similarities in their fighting style, not a thread to vent your personal anger (as you have done on many occasions I have to say).
Tell me what was significantly different between Thurman's performance vs Soto-Karass and Haye's performance vs Chisora.

Comparing a fighter who is fighting at the top stage and not trying to take the easy route to a fighter who has done nothing more than blab his way to a title fight on top of making up several excuses?
David Haye hasn't even fought in the States once!!
Completely unfair comparison as Thurman is much more talented than David Haye and you don't get the BS off him its all or nothing NO EXCUSES!
Educated post from an educated poster.
