1. “Floyd does all things necessary to win a fight,” Mosley notes.
That includes fighting rough and pushing the rules up to, and sometimes beyond, their boundary if the referee allows him to do so.
Against Mosley, Mayweather pushed down hard on the back of Shane’s head and neck as an offensive maneuver seventeen times and used a forearm-elbow to the neck aggressively twenty-three times.
2. Mayweather has had significant issues with women and the criminal justice system. In 2002, he pled guilty to two counts of domestic violence. In 2004, he was found guilty on two counts of misdemeanor battery for assaulting two women in a Las Vegas nightclub. Other incidents were disposed of more quietly.
Then, on December 21, 2011, a Las Vegas judge sentenced Mayweather to ninety days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges in conjunction with an assault against Josie Harris (the mother of three of his children). Floyd was also ordered to attend a one-year domestic-violence counseling program and perform one hundred hours of community service.
3. Mayweather has some outstanding victories on his ring record. But his career has been marked by the avoidance of tough opponents in their prime.
There always seems to be someone who Mayweather is ducking. The most notable example was his several-year avoidance of Manny Pacquiao. Bob Arum (Pacquiao’s promoter) might not have wanted the fight. But Manny clearly did. And it appeared as though Floyd didn’t.
Mayweather also steered clear of Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, and Miguel Cotto in their prime. He waited to fight Cotto until Miguel (like Shane Mosley) was a shell of his former self. Then Floyd made a show of saying that he’d fight Cotto at 154 pounds so Miguel would be at his best. But when Sergio Martinez offered to come down to 154, Floyd said that he’d only fight Martinez at 150 (an impossible weight for Sergio to make).
Thus, Frank Lotierzo writes, “Mayweather has picked his spots in one way or another throughout his career. Floyd got over big time on Juan Manuel Marquez with his weigh-in trickery at the last moment. He fought Oscar De La Hoya and barely won when Oscar was a corpse. Shane Mosley was an empty package when he finally fought him seven years after the fight truly meant anything. As terrific as Mayweather is, he's not the Bible of boxing the way he projects himself as being. He came along when there were some other outstanding fighters at or near his weight. Yet, aside from the late Diego Corrales, he has never met any of them when the fight would have confirmed his greatness. It would be great to write about Mayweather and laud all that he has accomplished as a fighter without bringing up these inconvenient facts. But it can't be done if you're being intellectually honest.”
4. Carlos Acevedo opines that Floyd has led “a charmed life inside the ring if a rather charmless one outside it,” and posits, “Being nasty in public under the guise of entertainment is now as American as baseball and serial killers.”

great article
100 percent true....he said martinez got to come to 150 lol and he fought fighters dat was young and inexperience or fighters way past there prime....mayweather is talented but he doesn't have the heart to test him self when the time is right
Hey your fantasies of sucking another mans coock aren't mine, so don't bring that gay s**t in here.
Stop acting like a groupie and you wouldn't be accused of sucking cooock
As a huge PW fan,(we from the same area), PW had nothing for Floyd at the time due to trainer and fight style. Im not big on Floyd at all but I knew PW could be outbox by a slickster. I wanted PW to face Cotto and Mosley with a new trainer(Manny Steward) and then fight floyd. Would have been a better match.
People said for a few months after Williams beat Margarito, could he trouble Floyd. It would be an interesting fight. Floyd proceeded to stop Hatton and Williams proceeded to drop a decision to Carlos Quintana of all people. I don't remember anyone saying Floyd should Williams instead of Hatton, who was Top 10 P4P and undefeated, and I don't remember anyone saying he should fight him at all after he lost to Quintana.
Would you suck Floyd's coooock if he asked you?
You sound like a groupie

And Pac said he was afraid of needles and that they'd weaken him, and that's why he turned down fighting Floyd in March 2010, yet people still blame Floyd for that fight falling apart???
People say stupid things, these aren't the brightest guys. If you really believe Arum had nothing to do with Margarito and Pac not happening, or Cotto not happening until his Top Rank contract was up, then you're not living in reality.

When asked on ESPN as to why he wouldn't fight Cotto, Floyd's response was "cause he lives in PR."
But somehow people still blame Arum? Smh

Yeah I remember him saying in order for him to get a shot, he had to call out his name, also he said nobody has ever heard of him.
Back to the write up, the writer does bring up some interesting points about fights happening 4-5 years later. Before he left Bob for greener pastures, Bob was trying to get him to fight margarito and cotto. Instead he went with Zab and Carlos.
It's smart on his part and I think once he's retired and time passes people will over look tthis and focus on how he generated so much more money during his time .
When asked on ESPN as to why he wouldn't fight Cotto, Floyd's response was "cause he lives in PR."

Yeah Mayweather didn't avoid Mosley in 2005-2006, but you probably weren't following the sport back then or 07'. Mayweather avoided Williams, really??? Paul got his first legit win in Summer of 07', Floyd fought Hatton that December, who was undefeated and Top 10 P4P, and someone people had wanted Floyd to fight for awhile. Paul proceeded to lose to Carlos Quintana 2 months after Floyd stopped Hatton. So did people really want to see Mayweather-Williams at that time, was it in high demand. I sure don't that being a high demand fight. And Shane straight up avoided any notion of fighting Mayweather in 2006, only after he stopped Margarito in 09' did he voice the desire to fight him, and what do you know??? They fought.
With regards to Margarito and Cotto in 06 and 07, Floyd should have and could have fought them. But are you really that deluded to remember Arum and Floyd splitting and saying they'd never do business together. It was only after they split that Floyd was supposedly ducking these guys. Cotto got free from Arum, and Floyd got him when he was past prime-still good, just like he was in 09 when Manny got him.
And do we really need to go into the who ducked who of Manny/Floyd???
And since you're a Pacquiao fan, how do you feel about Pacquiao's wins over Oscar, Margarito, Mosely, etc. Pac has one legit win, Bradley was a W, since Clottey. Since then, Mayweather has 5.
