Mayweather didn't fight De La Hoya in his next fight; he fought Carlos Baldomir after Leonard Ellerbe claimed they couldn't fight Margarito in August due to an injured hand (the possibility of moving the date forward a couple of months obviously wasn't an option.) no he didnt.he wanted a 20 mil guarantee for oscar he fought baldomir because baldomir was the linear champ and he had just brought out of his top rank contract.what sense would it make to fight rito.if he fought rito,people would just claim he ducked baldomir

When Arum wanted Mayweather under Top Rank to fight Margarito for a career high pay day, he decided to fight Baldomir instead for less money. Mayweather went out of his way to get out of Top Rank by paying Arum to buy out his contract. When Margarito was a threat and a potential foe, Mayweather "retired". After Margarito lost to Mosley and had the scandal, Mayweather announced his comeback just 4 months later. Is this a confirmed duck? 1. floyd made the same money for baldomir he would have made for margarto. 2. baldomir AT THE TIME was a higher regarded fighter than margarito, his W against judah was a better win than anything margarito had recorded and he held the lineal WW title as opposed to the paper title held by margarito. he was universally rnked higher than margarito at 147 and p4p. 3. floyd was heavily criticized for ducking baldomir when he fought judah, everyone wanted him to fight baldomir at the time. nobody but a handful of margarito fans (werent many of them before the cotto fight) wanted floyd to fight him. 4. floyd "retired" only a few months AFTER margarito had LOST to williams, so a fight with margarito wasnt gonna happen retirement or not. he didnt have to do or say **** to avoid it, tony just got his ass whupped. if he took a break to avoid someone it would be williams. 5. margarito had just lost his status when floyd came back, but he also just gained it. margarito beat cotto to become a star the fight before he lost it all against mosley, floyd was already on temporary leave as all this transpired. 6. margarito would be easy work for floyd, way too slow and lacking in skills to be competitive. he doesnt even have the one punch KO power to have a punchers chance. all he can do is apply pressure and hope that alone tires floyd out enough for him to land some punches and then wear him out all the way. but floyd doesnt get tired from people just coming at him all night, you need to land shots and to do that you need more than heart and chin. he could box circles around margaritos slow, wide punching, plodding ass all day and night.

I'm about the furthest thing from a Floyd Mayweather backer but I find it so hard to believe that a man who has fought his entire life is scared of another man. That said, that vid clip was weird. He looked alarmingly paranoid/concerned.

Floyd contradicted himself several times throughout 07-10. Remember the same guy who fought Ortiz and Guerrero said that prime Cotto and Margarito were not "big enough" to fight him. They didn't "bring enough to the table." He's about to fight Khan but other guys were "just knocked out", "lost 2 out of his last 4 fights." I respect Floyd as much as anybody. He's a top 15 fighter of all time. As much as I respect Floyd I really don't think he wanted to deal with Tony or Cotto back then. And once Pac KOed Cotto and Hatton he REALLY didn't want to deal with him either. It's easy to forget it now, but I believe it to be true. Of course I also don't think Pac wanted any part of Floyd. I would still favor Floyd to beat all three in their absolute prime. Still he chose the easy way out after Oscar. Yeah it's easy to say Hatton was the bigger draw back then. He was. He was also the easiest fight out of everyone.
