His next opponent instead of facing Maidana.
"He has the best management team in the world because at one time they picked the right opponent in paulie malignaggi. He's not a big puncher whereas Maidana is a big puncher. The paulie fight was chosen by his management team. The Maidana fight was chosen by adrien himself. He should have continued to let his management team pick his fights"
told you guys josesito lopez hits harder than broner and his recent fight proved it he through everything plus the kitchen sink even the cheap shot after the 11th round just showed he doesn't have that k.o. power
Yeah so Broner picking Maidana was him picking a tough opponent, someone dangerous. If Floyd picks Maidana, it's a cherry pick.
Gotta love this place....
From what I understand he is saying that Broner should build himself up more before he steps in the ring with that type of competition. Its just like how Canelo is right now. These type of fights this early in their career can destroy their career. Now if Canelo fights Lara and loses then what? He can forget about his PPV days. He needs to sharpen his skills more before jumping into the ring vs lions. Guys like Canelo and Broner were just too heavily hyped up and this is what ended up happening. Now they are forced to fight tough fights they probably shouldn't even be in because they don't have enough experience and skills learned yet to prepare them for these kinds of fights.
You can't cherry pick your want into being a star in this sport. It has NEVER worked.
If that plan worked, Andre Berto would be Floyd Mayweather. Berto was lucky to break 3k tickets.
The top grossing fighters, don't break over into the pop culture until the hardcore fams accept them as worthy. It's always been that way. If anything the cherry picking/overhype done by haymon/GBP damaged his career, and his development.
Real fighters need real development. The hype means nothing once the bell rings, and that's when the experience and grind time kicks in. He hasn't had any of that.
It wasn't just Broner though, Golden Boy originally wanted this fight to be on PPV to try and hype up Broner and his undefeated record.
They also though Chino was ready made to make Broner look good and thought he would be able to knock him out.
From here on out though Broner can't be as cautious. He is no longer undefeated so people will not accept him taking the easy fights from here on out.
Actually...He is right! You just got to 147 coming from 135, you struggled against Paulie then you felt you could jump in and just walk past Maidana, I always thought he should have fought Paulie again!
Broner did not respect Boxing and he paid for it dearly, Talent Alone don't take you far in boxing, eventually somebody will expose everything you LACK and more
Broner wanted stardom so bad that he got impatient and tried to speed things up a bit compared to a Keith Thurman, Leo Santa Cruz, Danny Garcia or even Gary Russell Jr who people bash for it but those guys are WORKING their way to stardom instead of acting silly out of the ring for the extra attention and talking sh1t to get to Mayweather level overnight
Mayweather himself did not getting the Big Paydays until what his Late 20's early 30's but you have Broner trying to get to Mayweather level at 23 or 24 years old and that is just not Possible
Floyd is 100% right.
I'm not going to pretend I expected Maidana to beat Broner, but in hindsight, the signs were there, and the result makes perfect sense. But I'm not a boxing expert. What I, an ordinary fan who never threw a competitive punch in my life, can see in hindsight, a professional trainer or manager should have known beforehand.
The Malignaggi fights showed that Broner is in need of a major style makeover if he wants to be successful at WW. His current style is predicated on two conditions:
1) His power and accuracy will discourage his opponent from throwing in volume.
2) He can walk through what his opponent does throw/land.
Against Malignaggi, the former clearly wasn't the case, and thus, the fight was much closer than most people expected. Malignaggi of course couldn't hurt Broner at all, but I remember many wondering what would happen if a proven WW puncher was landing all those shots on him.
Broner's team should have worked on these issues before putting him in with an opponent as dangerous as Maidana.
Maidana can easily be outboxed. To me he's a boxing caveman. The fact that he was able to outbox broner speaks in volumes to how overrated broner is.
^^^ I was just talking about that with a friend the other day. They just try to bring up anyone as a star now a days too.
Stop letting your hate for someone shade everything they say or do in a bad light. You guys are bigger then that. All he's saying is that you have a team for a reason so its not smart to go off on your own route. They know whats best for you. More specifically he's just saying the same thing that I and Danny Garcia said. He shouldve fought another puncher 1st because its crazy that just a year ago he was fighting at 130 and then 135 against midgets like Rees.
Its stupid to fight Rees and then 10 months later take punches from a 161 pound Maidana. Its going to be a shock to your system. You can fight Maidana but you have to fight another guy or 2 first that can punch but not as hard and not on a top level like that. It should be gradual and not rushed
LMAO.
And Maidana was a cherry pick.
He was. Matthysse won the fan poll.
They saw a slow, one dimensional plodder that stands in front of you and thought he would make Broner look good.
Broner can't deal with movement... we saw with Ponce and Paulie. So they cherry picked a guy that's flat footed.
Khan and Alexander beat Maidana. He's not a world beater. This was a good sink or swim fight for a young fighter and Broner was taken into deep waters and drowned.
the funny part is maidana WAS a cherry pick
if kotelnik, alexander nd khan could skate to a UD
then why cant "the next floyd mayweather" lol
broner just sucks, not dedicated & not that good. thats all it is
stepped up his comp too late nd got hulk smashed
Truth. Maidana was always a dangerous guy, no doubt, but he was/is a flawed guy who gets hurt rather easy. Sh*t Josesito damn near had him out of there for moments in their fight. Broner camp saw it, figured they'd easy work his ass, and it would be the biggest name on his resume. Just another step to his superstardom.
And then last Saturday happened. Whoops.

Broner had to step up soon anyway he is a 3 weight world champion he wouldn't of been let off the hook if he fought many more no names. I think he picked maidana at 147 because he thought maidana was the easiest option of the dudes from 140 - 147 but a well known name. It obviously backfired and just goes to show that he has no business at 147 as he was getting smacked around the ring like a journeyman.
