Broner has some serious problems/flaws. He clowns too much which I hate from all fighters. He drops his hands too much, which alot of fighters do and I will never understand. One dissapointing thing to me is that his team never seems like they have a plan B and Im truly starting to wonder do they ever ever ever work on boxing or do they think he is just going to be able to fight this style against anyone no matter how far he moves up.
Now, with all that being said, I think there is one thing that people are truly underestimating. People dont give guys like Pac & Floyd enough credit. To move up and face huge guys is not easy. Its super hard to do and both have done that in short periods. People ripped Broner for the Paulie fight in terms of how he won and just for fighting Paulie anyone but I said that people are underestimating how impressive it is that he was just at SFW a couple of fights ago and now is fighting at WW. Thats impressive.
Now to add on to this point and my thread title. I was in Atlantic City for the Rees fight. Do people realize that fight was this year? Not only this year but it was just under 10 months ago and he only had 1 fight in between then against a good but feather fisted Paulie. My point is that Rees is such a tiny midget. To be in teh ring with a guy like that and now fighting Maidana who was 161 in the ring and top 3-5 hardest punchers in teh sport is night & day. Its a shock to your system.
I dont think people are understanding that fact. It was a bad move by his managment. After Maidana for Lopez I said that I truly thought he may be the hardest puncher in the sport right now. This is teh guy Broner is facing just months after facing guys like Rees? Its not even in the same Universe. You could just tell that he was so schocked. This was all too soon. Again, lets go even further. He just fought Escobedo last year. Do people realize this? That was a 130 pound fight and now one year later he's fighting at WW against a guy who is 161 in the ring and maybe the hardest puncher in the game. That is no easy task for anyone, espically if your plan is to not only go toe to toe but to walk him down.
Broner has skill. It needs to be fine-tuned but he has alot of skill. Still, that is not going to prepare you from basically going from one level to a crazy other level. He's fighting little guy, light punchers at 130 and months later he's fighting a huge WW that is like a Jr. MW on fight night and punches like a MW. It was just flat out a shock to his system but it doesnt mean he sucks.
Shouldve either eased him up in weight, eased him in with different level punchers, or made sure that his plan was to move alot. If not then you get shell shocked because getting hit by Escobedo & Rees is nothing like being hit by Maidana. Nothing alike. I mean just rewatch teh fights. Like I said, I was in AC. Now Im rewatching this fight. Its like 1st he was fighting a boy and now he's fighting a grown man. I know those punches hurt. He never felt anything even close to that. I know his face & body is all bruised up & sore.
Robert Guerrero was fighting at 135 then jumped to 147 and fought Aydin (like a paulie) then destroyed a big powerful berto.
No excuses.
Broner looked great against midgets because broner has always been a true WW
Exactly. Just because Broner's style depends on small guys he can hurt to look good doesn't mean he's undersized against welterweights.

he's a closet floydiot and trying very hard to hide it.
I just realized he said Broner has skills lol.
It seems like TS doesn't know the difference between being gifted and being skillful. Someone skillful would put all the tools together and not struggled vs Maidana.

Lmao GTFO. You're such a sorry ass apologist. Who the fk is Rees and who had he beaten? No to mention Broner had like a whole foot in height advantage on this dude.
You have to understand who you're dealing with bro. Remember, this is the same guy that came into Rome's tread about Floyd fighting Lara to spout a whole bunch of straight stupid $h1t about Floyd fighting Martinez, GGG and Ward.
Now what does a jr middleweight champion fighting a jr middleweight have to do with middleweights and super middleweights? I do not know. But it equated to that in his mind.

Footwork, work-rate and defense and he'd be legit. He has the speed and counter ability; his chin isn't too bad either. The big thing is if he he actually will take anything from this and use it to move forward. A rematch is intriguing.

Broner isn't a bad fighter but his entire career up until maidana consisted of fighter much smaller men who couldn't really hit back
He was exposed for having no back up plan or movement, I mean he was literally outboxed by maidana
Broners style only works against fighters who are smaller and weaker than him.
Thats all i have to say. He can only beat smaller fighters and weak punchers.
Little Gavin Rees is European Level. He was never a big puncher anyway, but his punches had even less sting after moving down from Light Welter. He was landing on Broner constantly. Broner used his physical advantages against smaller guys.
Broner faced a guy around his own size in Malignaggi and went life and death with him, which should have had the alarm bells ringing. No offence to Paulie, he's a good fighter but he doesn't hit hard. He's a gatekeeper. Broner finally faced a guy his own size who can punch, and he was found out. The very definition of exposed!
The problem is he can't make 135 anymore, and he will inevitably fight big punchers at 140 and 147. He's a really good fighter, but he also has an attitude problem. And understandably so, Broner is only 23 years of age. It's clear he has a problem with pressure fighters, he needs to address that.
Robert Guerrero was fighting at 135 then jumped to 147 and fought Aydin (like a paulie) then destroyed a big powerful berto.
No excuses.
Broner looked great against midgets because broner has always been a true WW
Mosley jumped from 135 to 147 as well and fought Hoya and won. Keep in mind Hoya was a BEAST at the time.
I think your over playing the size excuse.
Broner was getting caught because he was playing with his hands down, standing flat footed in the pocket with a puncher and not using his feet. He fought Maidana like he was Paulie, Gavin Rees and Antonio DeMarco.
That has to do with fighting smart and having a good game plan going in. Not adjusting to a new weight class. Maidana is a big puncher against anybody from 140-147. But even a guy like Devon Alexander was able to neutralize his power, use his feet, tie him up and cruise.
Weight isn't an issue. Matthysse would have given him the same issues if he fought at 140.
He's an offensive fighter and Maidana made him very reactive. Broner could never really get his rhythm although he did for a bit in the middle almost but he was never able to step on the gas to really make anything of it before Maidana stepped on the gas.
Broner fought a poor fight and Maidana fought very well but this sort of thing was always going to happen to Broner at some point and the fact that it happened now instead of later is probably better for Broner because it gives more possibility of him growing up and taking the sport as seriously as he should as he has tools to be a quality fighter.
