Throw some jabs to the body to get your opponent used to that shot, then feint and throw a left hook to the head. Your opponent will probably drop his hands expecting a jab to the body, thus leaving his chin unprotected. This is a great boxing trick.

And here's a fighter who mastered it, I think that was the first time I saw a fighter do that :

I appreciate the T.S. pointing out this technique or "trick." It's nothing new but not everyone here has a Teddy Atlas degree in boxing skills and it's nice to point out and discuss one of the many intricacies of the sweet science. There's no need to be pretentious or condescending - this forum is for all fans who have varying levels of boxing knowledge.
As beautiful as a punch that was. His attempt at blocking a jab to the body was awful either way. Because he would have gotten hit with any followup punch if Maidana actually threw a real punch instead of feinted.
Look at this clown. One could say going into a thread and writing a paragraph calling someone a retard is retarded, it adds nothing to the topic and I don't understand the necessity of it. Fuckin' retard seriously.
I'm glad you recognize where you went wrong, beautiful.
You always get the usual idiot who screams Boxing 101, it's retarded to say that it's basic fundamentals when we got elites and all time greats who lacked basic fundamentals. I don't even understand the necessity in saying "Feinting a punch and throwing another has been around as long as boxing", how does that even add to the topic at hand? So should I go on every thread, pertaining to a certain skill and say "Said-skill has been around as long as boxing". Fuckin' retard, seriously.

He was talking about that specific feint/punch. Relatively simple to execute and very effective.
Holy ****, you're showing your ignorance with every post. Your dumb ass doesn't understand that it's not about 'targetting the body and moving upstairs', it's about establishing a pattern, getting your opponent acclimated to a specific punch (in this case the jab to the body to make him drop his hands) before switching up and surprising him (with the same hand to be more effective). You can't just go out there and throw one jab and then feint, you have to do it consistently to establish a patten.
Everyone knows this trick but world champions are still falling for it. Let me guess, it's just luck right?
I know what your talking about and it's been around forever, it's funny that you made a thread thinking it's something special when anyone that has been watching the sport for a reasonable length of time has seen it 1000 times.
World champions still fall for left jab, right straight too. If it works, it works.
You don't know boxing that's for sure, targeting the body and then moving upstairs is what you talking about now? LOL **** go watch Joe Louis fights he was doing this ****, everyone knows this "trick".

Good point.
So it's basic stuff that elite boxers fall for? I don't think you understand what the words basic or elite mean. Matter of fact you don't even understand this thread. You still think it's just about the feint. :pat:

The key is to have a good jab to the body. One that really bothers and annoys the opponent.
If you just flick it out there it's not nearly as effective when it comes time to feint with it.
Good point.
Of course they would, how can they not? They have to react to where they believe a punch is going to land as soon as they can, the whole purpose of feinting is to make an opponent think you are trying to hit somewhere else to make the opponent drop his guard elsewhere. Basic stuff.

Exactly what came to my mind. AB just had a bad night like Pacquiao did there lol
It's not just the feint, it's what you do before the feint, getting your opponent used to a certain shot. If this is basic boxing then elite fighters wouldn't fall for it.

I like it when boxers land those sort of punches, because it looked simple but no one seem to do it a lot. Feinting is a big part of landing your punches and with those 3 Gifs from the OP you can see that the victims were not expecting or didn't see the left hook because they were blinded by their opponents feint.
LOL like a feint to the body and throwing a hook is something special. C'mon man it's basic boxing nothing special.
