All those are guys who come from either 140 or even much lower weight classes and they moved up and are now fighting for belts at welterweight.
WBO is not universally regarded as a major title either. That's today. In 1999, the WBO was definitely a lower title.
We have a strange case in boxing where a title has risen up from being a very minor title to a decently recognised one. This means anyone who held the WBO in history now seems to be a former world champ when it isn't necessarily the case....
The change that has occured for the Wbo, has made a lot of unknown fighters who held that title true Champions. I have no problem with that. Even though i still consider wbc, wba and ibf the main titles...but than someone even older than i is going to laugh at those titles. I guess it take a list of top fighter to make the title what it is.
I can remember Barrera held that title for a long time. But it was just a title organization willing and honored to crown him with that title. Than came Bowe, Hamed, glamorizing this title. For a while i thought the IBO was going to head in this distinction too.
WBO is not universally regarded as a "lower" title.
The main 4 titles are IBF, WBC, WBA and WBO.
Bailey won the WBO Light Welterweight Title in 1999 and also an Interim WBA title in 2002: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=6750&cat=boxer

Peterson and Matthysse was at welterweight with an agreed upon weight of 141. Anything over 40 is a WW fight.
That's what I thought but I've seen Peterson vs. Matthysse and Khan vs. Diaz referred to as JWW fights.

Thank u. I posted about true welterweights before. Floyd isn't even a true welterweight, but welterweights r so small and blown up now that he can get away with fighting at welterweight. Oscar was the last of the Mohicans.
Trinidad
Quartey
De La Hoya
If these dudes were fighter in this era u wouldn't b seeing all these little guys moving up to welterweight.
I wish we would have seen Quartey vs. Trinidad. That would have been a classic.
Floyd got them skills for reals, which he'd push himself but he in it for the money, nothing wrong with that, i know he still taking a big risk entering that squared ring.
Rather amusing how a fight at 143 is in the JWW where the limit is 140 pounds :lol1:
NSB logic strikes again
That's what it says on the Showtime website. It says JWW fight. Glad you're amused though.
Welcome to the party. This has been going on for many, many years now. Floyd came in at the right time. Even when he first fought at welterweight he first fought 140 pounders at welterweight ex. Judah, S.Mitchal don't recall the Puerto Rican who move up to fight him at 140 for Floyd first fight at 147 and i think his too.
George Forman used to say "....make as much money with that title"

i thought so. thx.
If you are not going to answer the question thats fine with me. WHen you and the TS decide at what point a non ww becomes a ww let me know.
Thanks for answering my question. For Malg he was a welter, for Garcaia he was jr. welter you ask me what weight will be his next fight? could be jr. or welter cause the reall danger isn't there, all the 140 pounders thinking they true 147 pounders now that Marg is gone and Cintron not prime.
thats a welterweight fight isnt' it? because its above the 140 pound limit. Where the welterweight limit is 147.

Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KOs) vs. Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KOs) in a 12-round junior welterweight bout. Live from Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England.
That's what it says on the Showtime website.

Anything above 140 makes it a WW bout.

You have to win in the division to "rule" the division. Rios, for instance, could go back to 140, hence he wouldn't be in the division.
You have to rule a division to be considered in that division?
Any of those guys can "go back down" to 140, does that mean they were never WWs?

What is he now?

So you have to win at the division to be at the division?

I don't recall that. Unless you mean he held one of the other lower titles, wbo?
